1968 Vw Single Cab Pick Up Baywindow Bus, Transporter, Vanagon, Volkswagen Rare on 2040-cars
Dunedin, Florida, United States
1968 VW SINGLE CAB, DUEL TREASURE CHEST VOLKSWAGEN TRANSPORTER PICK UP TRUCK, BAYWINDOW BUS.
THIS IS ONE OF THE RAREST VW BAYWINDOW SINGLE CAB PICK UP OUT THERE. EVEN MORE RARE THAN THE SPLIT WINDOW, JUST TAKE A LOOK WHATS OUT THERE. AND AFTER HAVING ONE OF EACH, I CAN SEE WHY. THE UPGRADED MOTORS, TRANNY, SUSPENSIONS AND BASIC DRIVABILITY IS NIGHT AND DAY BETTER IN THE BAYWINDOWS OVER THE SPLIT. 1968 IS THE RAREST BEING FIRST YEAR OF PRODUCTION AND A ONE YEAR ONLY. AND TO FIND ONE OF THESE ON THIS COAST IN FL. AS SOLID AS THIS ONE IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE. THATS WHY ITS SO HARD FOR ME TO PART WITH IT. BUT MY WHOLE FAMILY DOESNT FIT IN IT AND LIFE HAS DELT ME A NEW HAND. YOU WOULD BE HARD PRESSED TO EVER FIND ANOTHER THIS SOLID IN THIS AREA, JUST TAKE A LOOK FOR YOURSELF. THIS ONE IS AN OLDER RESTORATION FROM PREVIOUS OWNER (ABOUT 8 YEARS), BUT HAS HELD THE TEST OF TIME. THERE MAY BE A COUPLE OF TINY BUBBLES IN THE PAINT BUT NO RUST. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE WITH THE ORIGINAL METAL BED AND TREASURE CHEST FLOORS THIS SOLID BEFORE. JUST LOOK AT THE PICTURES, THEY SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. EVERYTHING LOOKS TO BE ORIGINAL AND EVEN COMES WITH EXTRA SET OF ORIGINAL RIMS AND TIRES THAT CAN GO WITH THE SALE IF DESIRERED. THIS WAS A TOTAL LABOR OF LOVE. THE BODY LOOKS TO HAVE BEEN PAINTED IN ITS ORIGINAL LOTUS WHITE COLOR WITH OFF SETTING BRIGHT WHITE BUMPERS. AND EVEN THOUGH PAINT IS EIGHT YEARS OLD, IT STILL WAXES UP TO A SHOW ROOM SHINE. LOOKS LIKE ALL THE RUBBER WAS REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME EXCEPT THE DOOR SCRAPPERS ARE QUIT WORN. I ALSO INSTALLED NEW TMI DOOR RUBBERS AROUND BOTH FRONT DOORS. IT HAS 15 INCH TIRES WITH SHINEY RIMS WITH FAT ONES ON THE REAR FOR THAT HOT ROD STANCE THAT WHAT A TRUCK SHOULD LOOK LIKE IN MY OPINION AT LEAST. THE TREASURE CHESTS ARE AS BEAUTIFUL ON THE OUTSIDE AS THE INSIDE. THE ORIGINAL KEY THAT STARTS THE BUS, LOCKS THE DOORS, ALSO OPENS ONE SIDE OF THE TREASURE CHEST. YET, OTHER TREASURE CHEST KEY HOLE IS WORN. SO, THE P/O ATTACHED PULL WIRE ON THE INSIDE TO OPEN THE OTHER AND WORKS GREAT. LOOK AT HOW GREAT SHAPE THE ORIGINAL METAL IS INSIDE AND THEN ALL THE EXTRA CARGO ROOM. NEXT, YOU CAN LAY DOWN THE SIDES AND REAR GATES TO TURN YOUR TRUCK INTO A FLAT BED. THE GATES LOOK TO BE IN GREAT SHAPE WITH THE BOTTOM OF ONE SIDE HAS BEEN RAPAIRED. WHEN I LAY THE GATES DOWN TO FORM FLAT BED, I DO HEAR SOME LITTLE OLD PIECES OF METAL INSIDE THEY DIDNT GET OUT WHEN THEY PAINTED IT. JUST A LITTLE, BUT TRYING TO BE STRAIGHT ON EVERYTHING FOR NEW OWNER. YET GATES, RUBBER BUMPERS, HINGES AND LATCHES ARE IN GREAT SHAPE. THE ORIGINAL METAL BED LOOKS TO BE IN GREAT SHAPE TOO, JUST PAINT A LITTLE SCUFFED FROM HAULING LOADS. THE REAR GATE HAS THE ORIGINAL HOLES IN IT TO BE ABLE TO STILL SEE YOUR TAIL LIGHTS IF DRIVING WITH GATE DOWN. DOESNT THE INGINUITY AMAZE YOU FOR 1968? IT BLOWS ME AWAY... AFTER LOOKING FOR YEARS, I FINALLY FOUND AN ORIGINAL BRAZILIAN TILT CANOPY FROM THE SIXTIES IN JUST AMAZING CONDITION. SINGLE CAB MUST MEET RESERVE FOR ME TO EVEN CONSIDER LETTING THIS GO WITH THE SALE. IF YOU CAN EVER EVEN FIND ONE OF THESE TOPPERS IN SUCH GOOD SHAPE (GOOD LUCK), THEY ARE PRICED OVER TWO GRAND! BUT I WILL LET IT GO. EVEN THE CANVAS IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND I HAVE THE ORIGINAL STRAPS THAT GO WITH IT (SEE PICTURES). THE BACK SLIDES UP OR DOWN LIKE YOUR OLD PULL MINI BLINDS THAT WERE IN YOUR HOUSE BACK IN THE SEVENTIES. THEN YOU CAN STRAP UP EACH SIDE OF THE CANOPY AS WELL. IT CHANGES THE WHOLE LOOK OF THE SINGLE CAB AND LOOKS / FUNCTIONS WAY BETTER THAN THE HOOP CANOPIES IN MY OPINION AND ARE HARDER TO FIND. I PUT A MATTRESS IN THE BED AND TAKE MY BOYS CAMPING. I HAVE THE CANOPY OFF RIGHT NOW FOR TRANSPORT AND WILL LEAVE PERMANENT INSTALL FOR NEW OWNER. OH, THE BACK PLASTIC WINDOW IS LIKE NEW TOO AND IS CLEAR AS CAN BE. I FORGOT TO CLEAN IT BEFORE I PUT IT ON, BUT YOU WILL SEE IN PERSON JUST HOW NICE IT REALLY IS... THE ENGINE IS A 1600CC DUAL PORT MOTOR THAT HAS RECENTLY BEEN REBUILT BY LOCAL VW SPECIALIST. EVERTHING IS NEW FROM PISTONS AND CLYNDERS, RINGS, BEARINGS, ALL GASKETS AND SEAL, NEW RUBBER GASKET AROUNG MOTOR TIN, CORRECT TIN BEHIND SHROUD (ALWAYS MISSING) TO SEAL OFF MOTOR COMPARTMENT, 009 DISTRIBUTOR, CAP WIRES, ROTOR, PLUGS, LITTLE CHROME TO OFF SET COLOR AND MAKE IT POP, CARBURATOR, FUEL LINES, ORIGINAL AIR CLEANER AND HOSES, FUEL PUMP, TO EVEN NEW BATTERY AND GROUND STRAP. NOT A SPEED DEMON, BUT RUNS GREAT. IT DOESNT LEAK, BUT STILL MARKS ITS SPOT LIKE THEY ALL DO! ALL THE TINS WERE SANDED, PRIMED AND PAINTED ORIGINAL BLACK WITH HEAT RESISTANT PAINT. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT LOOKS TO BE A SHADE LIGHTER THAN THE BODY, BUT IS PAINTED UP VERY NICE. AND ORIGINAL METAL ON BOTH SIDES LOOKS TO BE IN GREAT SHAPE. FINALLY, ITS FINISHED OFF WITH A NEW EMPI HEADER SYSTEM WITH A GOOD LOOKING STINGER. NOW I DO HAVE A NEW SINGLE QUIET PACK IF YOU WOULD RATHER HAVE IT THAN THE STINGER. YET, THE STINGER HAS FULL BAFFLE AND RUNS VERY QUIET BUT SOUNDS OH SO GOOOOD. THE UNDERSIDE IS IN AS GOOD AS CONDITION AS THE OUTSIDE WITH NO RUST ISSUES. AND HAS BEEN HAND PAINTED WITH A POR 15 ANTI RUST TYPE BLACK CONDITIONER PAINT FOR PREVENTATIVE MAINTENCE. YOU CAN LOOK FOR YOURSELF, ITS VERY IMPRESSIVE. THE INTERIOR LOOKS AS GOOD AS THE REST. THE SEATS HAVE BEEN RECOVERED IN BRAND NEW TMI COVERS IN ORIGINAL TAN COLOR. WITH MATCHING DOOR PANELS, SUN VISORS, KICK PANELS AND MATCHING HIGH QUALITY REAL LEATHER STEERING WHEEL COVER AND VW SUICIDE KNOB. NEW CUSTOM BLACK HEAD LINER THAT WILL NEVER FALL AND MATCHING NEW BLACK TMI CARPET AND ORIGINAL BLACK MATT IN GOOD CONDITION. THE FLOORS HAVE A LITTLE PATCH ON BOTH SIDES FROM P/O AND DID GREAT JOB AND TOPPED OFF WITH RETRO FOOT PEDAL. THREE SETS OF ORIGINAL SEAT BELTS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION AND FUNCTION GREAT. AND THE ORIGINAL ASH TRAY IS IN THE GLOVE BOX SO I COULD SLID IN A DUAL DRINK AND CELL PHONE HOLDER. ALSO NEW TMI BLACK VIYNAL UNDER THE SEATS. ALL LIGHTS WORK AS THEY SHOULD AS IN THE HEADLIGHTS (HIGH & LOW BEAM), RUNNING LIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS, TURN SIGANLS ARE OFF AND ON AND BELEAVE FLASHER IS ON ITS WAY OUT. GAS GAUGE IS INTERMEDIATE AS WELL DUE TO OUR WONDERFUL ETHANOL IN OUR GAS. DASH LIGHTS ALL WORK GOOD, SPEEDOMETER, IDIOTS LIGHTS, HORN AND THE WIPERS (HIGH & LOW) ALL WORK AS THEY SHOULD. REAR BRAKES COULD USE ADJUSTMENT AND THE EMERGANCY BRAKE. I KNOW THIS IS A LOT OF INFORMATION, BUT TRYING TO BE THOUGHAL AS POSSIBLE FOR THOSE BUYERS THAT CANT GET HERE IN PERSON. CAUSE BY ALL MEANS, IF YOU ARE ABLE TO COME TO MY HOUSE AND SEE IT FOR YOURSELF, FEEL FREE. YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE LIKE I DID AND WILL HAVE TO BUY IT! IN CONCLUSION, THIS 1968 BAYWINDOW IS THE MOST RARE OF ALL BEING THE FIRST YEAR OF PRODUCTION AND IS IN INCREADABLE SHAPE. SHE LOOKS, RUNS, SHIFTS (DOESNT POP OUT OF ANY GEARS), DRIVES AND HANDLES GREAT FOR A VW BUS THATS 46 YEARS OLD! SHE HAS STOOD THE TEST OF TIME BETTER THAN ANY OTHER I HAVE EVER SEEN. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO KEEP THIS AND AM VERY MATICOLOUS ABOUT MY VEHICLES; HENCE, I HAVE GOT WAY TOO MUCH MONEY INTO THIS BUS. IM IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF TWENTY GRAND! YES, I KNOW I CANT GET IT ALL BACK OUT, BUT IM NOT GOING TO GIVE IT AWAY EITHER. SO, PLEASE JUST BID WHAT YOU ARE WILLING AND ABLE TO PAY. AS YOU CAN SEE BY MY EBAY RATING, I TAKE THIS VERY SERIOUS. I HAVE OVER 500 TRANSACTIONS WITH NO NEGATIVE FEEDBACK AND 100% RATING. IF YOU HAVE UNDER 10 TRANSACTIONS OR NEGATIVE FEEDBACK WITH EBAY, CONTACT ME 1ST BY EMAIL, OR PERFERABLY PHONE CALL BEFORE YOU BID. OR I WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO CANCELL YOUR BID. DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU HAVE ALL YOUR FINANCES IN PLACE AND PLAN ON FOLLOWING THROUGH WITH TRANSACTION. THERE HAS BEEN FEW THAT HAVE RUINED THINGS ON EBAY FOR THE HONEST HARD WORKING MEN AND WOMEN OUT HERE. AND FOR SUCH REASONS, I WANT TO RECIEVE GOOD OLD FASHION CASH. I MIGHT TAKE A BANK CERTIFIED CHECK IF DISCUSSED BEFORE HAND. YET, ALL FUNDS MUST CLEAR MY BANK ACCOUNT BEFORE WILL RELEASE VEHICLE. AND HERE IN FL, THAT CAN TAKE UP TO 10 BUSINESS DAYS. IF YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH, YOU WILL SEE I HAVE SOLD CARS UP TO FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS WITH VERY HONORABLE FEEDBACK FROM BUYERS. VW joins Daimler's protest of new A/C refrigerant as EU deadline for compliance passes
Sun, 06 Jan 2013The case of Dupont and Honeywell's refrigerant R-1234yf is doing the exact opposite of keeping things cool. The two chemical companies have spent years and hundreds of millions of dollars developing R-1234yf to replace R-134a, the new refrigerant shown to be 99.7-percent kinder to the environment than the one it is meant to succeed. Part of that development has been years of testing by governments, outside safety agencies and automakers to approve the chemical for use in cars. It passed the protocols necessary for the European Union to declare that new and significantly revised cars from 2013 onward needed to use R-1234yf, and mandated that every car as of 2017 must use it.
Enter Daimler AG. The automaker created a head-on collision test with a B-Class at their Sindelfingen test track that would lead to the pressurized refrigerant being sprayed on the engine. The result in 20 out of 20 test was that the refrigerant burst into flames as soon as it hit the hot engine, while Daimler says that R-134a does not catch fire in the same test. Another unexpected result of the R-1234yf test was the release of hydrogen flouride, a chemical far more deadly to humans than hydrogen cyanide, emitted in such amounts that it that turned the windshield white as it began to eat into the glass.
Said a Daimler engineer in a Reuters piece, "It was scarcely believable. The most complicated lab tests conducted using the most sensitive measuring instruments around found nothing and all we do is drive a car around a couple of times, open a tiny hole in the refrigerant line and the next thing you know the car is on fire." So Daimler said it wouldn't use the refrigerant, and it recalled the cars it had already shipped with R-1234yf.
Anti-union group files lawsuit against VW and UAW
Fri, 14 Mar 2014The fight for unionization at Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN, factory isn't letting up. Yesterday, the National Labor Relations Board decided to allow anti-United Auto Workers employees at the plant the right to defend voting down the measure. Now, a group called the National Right to Work Foundation has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of five workers against VW and the UAW for allegedly working together to organize.
The group says in a release that it wants "to block further collusion between the company and the United Auto Workers." It alleges that VW forced workers to attend "mandatory pro-union meetings" and prevented managers from opposing. In a rebuttal on its website, the UAW called the claims "baseless" and said its actions were entirely legal.
One possible problem faces the carmaker in regards to the lawsuit. According to the Detroit Free Press, a recent US Court of Appeals ruling found that neutrality agreements like the one the business had with the UAW could be illegal if the company provided "things of value" to the union. The newspaper also claims that VW held a mandatory employee meeting concerning the election, but workers were free to leave during the UAW's presentation.
