1965 Volkswagen Bus Type II

This is an 11-window restored unique beauty.  We spent approximately 12 months restoring a shell that we found in New Mexico building a special "flower power" vehicle for my wife.  The entire shell was sandblasted and then coated for protection against rust.  All of the interior and mechanicals were either refreshed or completely replaced and upgraded.  Here are some key features:

  • Custom paint (including pink wheels)
  • Front disc brake upgrade
  • Modern refrigerator
  • 120v power connection on exterior with outlets and breaker inside cabin
  • Flat panel TV w/ DVD player in the rear cabin
  • Bluetooth/CD Player/Navigation system
  • Seat heaters for the driver and front passenger
  • A/C system
  • Upgraded alternator
  • Dual battery setup
  • Rubberized sprayed flooring beneath carpet for durability and protection
  • White vinyl headliner
This Bus was a labor of love.  All of the window seals were replaced and all glass replaced.  All of the side windows open (except the ones on the side doors which are fixed position).

The Bus drives great and is a lot of fun.  People go crazy when they see it.  We take it to car shows and parked next to Ferrari Enzo's it gets the larger crowd.

Cosmetically, the bus is in great shape but we do actually USE it so there are a few chips and scratches.  There is one flawed paint crack up front, but the bus is an "A".

We have loved having the Bus but have decided to move on to a new project.  We hope the Bus goes to a new owner who will love and care for it as much as we do!

Volkswagen tipped to launch turbocharged Up! with 100 hp

Tue, Jan 6 2015

Overseas customers enticed by the compact dimensions of the Volkswagen Up! but turned off by its diminutive 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine may be encouraged by reports that the German automaker is planning a more potent turbo version. Previewed by the GT Up! concept showcased at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show (pictured above), the more performance-oriented model is expected to pack the turbo three from the larger Polo, where it produces 100 horsepower channeled through a five-speed manual transmission. That may not seem like much, but it would put the existing 59- and 74-horsepower versions of the German city car to shame. That might not give it enough punch to keep pace with the upcoming Smart Fortwo Brabus (and its Renaultsport Twingo counterpart), tipped to pack as much as 130 hp, but it could stand to out-perform the existing 89-hp turbo models of both. Given that the reports are emanating from Brazil, however, it is possible that the Up! Turbo (or whatever it's ultimately called) would be limited to the South American market, if it's built at all. One thing's for sure, though: it's not likely to make it to North American showrooms anytime soon.

Translogic 164: Driving the fuel cell vehicles of the 2014 LA Auto Show

Wed, Nov 26 2014

The LA Auto Show is known for its environmentally friendly vehicle debuts. At last year's show, hydrogen fuel cell concepts from Honda and Toyota joined a lease-ready Hyundai Tucson FCEV to cast a green hue over the convention center. This year, automakers took us a step closer to a fuel cell future by offering drives of their hydrogen-electric hybrids. Translogic host Jonathon Buckley takes a ride in the Toyota Mirai, which is headed for production in 2016. He follows that with a spin in the Volkswagen Passat HyMotion and the Audi A7 Sportback h-tron quattro concept. Which of these fuel cell vehicles holds the most promise? Tune in to find out. Hyundai tops VW and Buick in China, survey says

Wed, Apr 15 2015

You may be aware of the long-time competition in China between Volkswagen and Buick, but another brand apparently should be in that conversation too: Hyundai. In a recently published annual consumer survey, the Korean company actually took the top spot to beat out its German and American rivals in second and third, respectively. The results were part of the China Brand Power Index that interviewed 11,500 people around the nation and was paid for by the country's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. While Hyundai proved popular with voters, its sales haven't necessarily shown that yet. According to Bloomberg, the brand had falling numbers in China for the first quarter of the year. Even Ford outsold the South Korean automaker in the same period, despite scoring lower on the survey. Meanwhile, Audi ranked as the populace's favorite luxury brand, which is hardly a surprise given the Four Rings' strong sales in China. In January alone the automaker saw a 15-percent boost in volume there. Parent company VW's strong performance was somewhat more surprising, though. State media severely criticized the German automaker in March, and customers protested last year for the allegedly poor handling of a recall.
