Will be adding video soon. Bus needs interior work. Has all the major camping parts. Structurally and mechanically sound. Drives nice, shocks, brakes, exhaust, motor, trans all in good working order. Paint is faded and worn. Just needs paint and cosmetics to make this bus gorgeous. Excellent restoration project or daily rat ride. Get in it and drive- a lot of the majors are already taken care of. The sound you hear in the video is not the engine knocking. It's a valve adjustment or something simpler like that. The engine runs nice.

I'm going to answer a few questions people asked insteading of replying to each one.  How much body work does it need? As far as I know,( and I have had a magnet all over it) it needs a new nose and a new sliding door if you can't patch the door on the bottom. On the drivers side there is rust along the trim in the middle of the bus. There is normal bus rust along the windows and small little specs of rust here and there on the body. No major rust at all. I described and showed all the rust I know about to the best of my ability. I'm not a mechanic. Please come and see yourself or ask for specific pictures before bidding if you need more clarification. Are the rockers rusted? The rockers are good as far as I know. The sliding door is rusted.   What is the reserve? The reserve is $8000. Can it drive cross country? It has already. Multiple times with it's previous owner. I have the receipts for it's new owner to keep as part of her history. I have owned it for about three years and drove it only on the weekends. It has been reliable. I've also had to change out the clutch cable in a parking lot and various other unexpected things that come up with a bus. I have a half-decent amount of VW knowledge and a whole bunch of mechanical people to help me. I just haven't had the time to fully restore this bus. If you are the auction winner and within a few hours drive of this location you can pick it up come and drive it back with a buddy. Get AAA because it is a 37 year old vehicle for a serious hobby or VW enthusiast not for those that don't know how to drive the 4 speed manual transmission and properly take care of her. If you are farther, arrange for shipping of some kind. The vehicle needs some finishing touches on all components before I would feel comfortable using it as as a second home on a road trip. For those who have owned or own VW's you know this is all standard VW knowledge. Does it have air and heat? Yes. It has windows you can roll down. Right now there are no door panels so rolling down the windows takes a certain amount of finesse. Heat. No, not really. Are you sure you want a VW bus? The new Kia's have heat, air, and a 100,000  warranty. This bus has a lot of character yet you don't drive a bus for the heating and air conditioning. It's part lifestyle and part insanity.  Why am I selling it? Educational expenses for my kid. There's no other reason I would sell this awesome bus if not for that.

Volkswagen Group looks to add ridesharing brand to portfolio

Fri, Sep 30 2016

Volkswagen is rapidly trying to put the ongoing diesel scandal behind it at the Paris Motor Show with the unveiling of the automaker's electric I.D. Concept. In addition to unveiling the EV, the automaker also announced that it established a yet-to-be-named subsidiary for ridesharing purposes. The new brand will be VW Group's 13th, and will add mobility services to in the form of a carpooling service, similar to that of Uber and Lyft. This will include teaming up with Gett – a cab-hailing startup that operates in roughly 70 cities worldwide, which includes New York City, that was previously known as GetTaxi. Earlier this year, VW invested $300 million in the company. In addition to ridesharing, VW Group claims it is also hard at work on its own shuttle service as the brand aims to become a leader in urban mobility services by 2025. The name of the 13th brand and more information on the subsidiary will be released in November. VW Group also announced plans to give Gett drivers in Moscow, Russia "preferential terms" on a Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Jetta, Skoda Octavia, or Skoda Rapid. VW Group's 13th brand sounds similar to Mercedes-Benz's Vision Van Concept, which the automaker would allow consumers to lease and purchase the vehicle, as well as rent its services on a short-term basis. While the Vision Van Concept is a commercial vehicle that has delivery drones on the roof to aid deliveries, VW Group's shuttle service sounds more like autonomous buses to ferry people around. Now that diesels are dead, Volkswagen has quickly embraced the future, where autonomous and electric vehicles coexist. Related Video: Related Gallery Volkswagen I.D. VW invests in QuantumScape for potentially fireproof, long-range EV batteries

Mon, Dec 8 2014

VW might be getting ready to push its plug-in technology in a big way thanks to an investment in the battery startup QuantumScape. Key point: the solid-state battery is said to be fireproof and will offer tremendous range advantages. Details are not abundant yet, but according to Bloomberg, VW of America bought a five-percent stake in QuantumScape (and has an option to raise its holding). The tech could "more than triple" the EV range of VW, Porsche and Audi plug-in vehicles as soon as the middle of 2015, according to unnamed sources that Bloomberg talked to. Former Stanford University researchers started QuantumScape in 2010. The bare-bones QuantumScape website (there's nothing there other than some contact information) doesn't offer many hints about what's happening at the company, but GigaOM's Katie Fehrenbacher notes that QuantumScape is licensing tech from the "All Electron Battery" project at Stanford a few years ago. It certainly sounds amazing: [It's] a completely new class of electrical energy storage devices for electric vehicles that has the potential to provide ultra-high energy and power densities, while enabling extremely high cycle life. The All-Electron Battery stores energy by moving electrons, rather than ions, and uses electron/hole redox instead of capacitive polarization of a double-layer. ... If successful, this project will develop a completely new paradigm in energy storage for electrified vehicles that could revolutionize the electric vehicle industry. If that's what's coming in a future e-Golf or E-Tron, sign us up.

UAW Falls 87 Votes Short Of Major Victory In South

Sat, Feb 15 2014

Just 87 votes at the Volkswagen plant in Tennessee separated the United Auto Workers union from what would have been its first successful organization of workers at a foreign automaker in the South. Instead of celebrating a potential watershed moment for labor politics in the region, UAW supporters were left crestfallen by the 712-626 vote against union representation in the election that ended Friday night. The result stunned many labor experts who expected a UAW win because Volkswagen tacitly endorsed the union and even allowed organizers into the Chattanooga factory to make sales pitches. The loss is a major setback for the UAW's effort to make inroads in the growing South, where foreign automakers have 14 assembly plants, eight built in the past decade, said Kristin Dziczek, director of the labor and industry group at the Center for Automotive Research, an industry think tank in Michigan. "If this was going to work anywhere, this is where it was going to work," she said of the Volkswagen vote. Organizing a Southern plant is so crucial to the union that UAW President Bob King told workers in a speech that the union has no long-term future without it. The loss means the union remains largely quarantined with the Detroit Three in the Midwest and Northeast. Many viewed VW as the union's best chance to gain a crucial foothold in the South because other automakers have not been as welcoming as Volkswagen. Labor interests make up half of the supervisory board at VW in Germany, and they questioned why the Chattanooga plant is the company's only major factory worldwide without formal worker representation. VW wanted a German-style "works council" in Chattanooga to give employees a say over working conditions. The company says U.S. law won't allow it without an independent union. In Chattanooga, the union faced stern opposition from Republican politicians who warned that a UAW victory would chase away other automakers who might come to the region. Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee was the most vocal opponent, saying that he was told that VW would soon announce plans to build a new SUV in Chattanooga if workers rejected the union. That was later denied by a VW executive, who said the union vote had no bearing on expansion decisions. Other state politicians threatened to cut off state incentives for the plant to expand if the union was approved.
