1998 Vw New Beetle on 2040-cars
Port Charlotte, Florida, United States
1998 VW Volkswagen New Beetle This 1998 New Beetle is a Canadian export model which is now located in Florida with a clear FL title from this year. It has the metric instrument cluster with 99,387 kilometers on the odometer (equivalent to 67,000 miles roughly). It has the 2.0 AEG engine with an automatic transmission and 4 wheel disc brakes. It was towed in for an overheat condition, we found that the electric fans were not working. A previous tech had replaced the radiator, the water pump and timing belt, the thermostat and 2 water outlets. The vehicle runs and drives though the engine runs a bit rough and the overheat warning lamp illuminates after about 10-15 minutes. The car owner is not interested in any additional repair expenses and it is for sale here and locally. The car is in very good overall condition with no dents or paint damage. It was used as a winter Florida car for the owner whom lives in Canada for the better part of the year; it has not been abused. The underside has superficial rust from northern climates but no structural concerns. I am from New England and know how rusty the cars can get up there! It is of the deluxe trim level and has many desireable options including alloy wheels, Michelin tires, AC and a factory CD changer and power windows, cruise control, overhead clock, etc. The interior is very good overall. The headliner will need to be re-glued as it is dropping in a few areas, and the carpets are a bit dirty but the interior is not damaged at all. This VW would be a great car for the new beetle enthusiast or technician; the front bumper cover and headlamps were removed for access to the radiator mounting bolts but they are fully intact and undamaged. Any questions, call Jeff 941-830-3137. |

VW previews retouched 2014 Touareg for Beijing
Wed, 16 Apr 2014Volkswagen is in New York this week showing off its new Jetta and Golf TDI SportWagen concept. But in less than a week, the German automaker will be off to China for the Beijing Motor Show, where it will showcase the revised Touareg you see here.
A subtle update on the Touareg that's been on the market in its current form for four years now, the facelifted model features reworked styling front and rear, an updated interior and a host of new technologies to keep it current in the highly competitive SUV market. Among those new features are larger bi-xenon headlights, coasting function, Google Maps integration and a post-collision braking system designed to prevent a second crash.
VW will offer the new Touareg with a variety of engines around the world, but in North America it'll carry over the same six-cylinder powertrain options as the outgoing model: a 3.6-liter V6 with 280 horsepower, a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 with 240 hp (though torque isn't listed, we'd expect around 406 pound-feet, same as last year) and a hybrid that marries a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 to an electric motor that combine to deliver 380 hp.
Volkswagen e-Co-Motion concept poised for delivery to Geneva
Sat, 02 Mar 2013With Nissan getting ready to launch the e-NV200, it appears Volkswagen is looking to go after the same zero-emission commercial vehicle market with the all-electric 2013 e-Co-Motion Concept. Debuting next week at the Geneva Motor Show, the e-Co-Motion Concept might be small in size, but VW says it has cargo and payload capacities that should be perfect for small businesses.
Measuring 179 inches long, 75 inches wide and 77 inches tall, the e-Co-Motion Concept has about the same footprint as the current Golf, and it has a cargo capacity of 162 cubic feet and a maximum payload of more than 1,700 pounds. There isn't too much information on the e-Co-Motion just yet - such as what electric components and platform are used - but the press release posted below states while the concept is shown as a cargo van, future body styles could include a passenger wagon or a refrigerated box van.
Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva
Thu, 21 Feb 2013After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.
