Beautiful 1964 Rag top Beetle.

New paint, interior, rims and performance engine.
We started with a clean original car and then we had a original rag top graphed in to the roof by a professional that butt welded the metal and then tig welded it in. The install is so clean and undetectable from the inside.
The car was disassembled and painted inside and out. Original doors and fenders were painted off the car. Both front and rear aprons are original. The rear apron has the tailpipe cut outs shaved off. The body was assembled with all new seals, body trim and running boards.
The original German bumpers were reused.
The floor pan is original and not rusted. The interior is all new with original style rubber floor mats and Oatmeal color carpet.  Seats have been rebuilt with original white upholstery.  Door panels are original two tone style with drivers pocket. Rag top has new Canvas. Has a Scat shifter and original goldie sunroof handle. Windshield is new and quarter windows are pop outs.
Rims are new and tires have approximately 1,000 miles on them.
It has new brakes wheel cylinders, master cylinder, flex lines and shoes. Drums were turned. Bearings were replaced.
The front end was rebuilt with new king and links and left and right tie rods. Has heavy duty front sway bar with urethane bushings.
The transmission is a freeway flyer with heavy duty side cover welded 3 and 4 gears. All new bearing and syncros. Transmission has approximately 3,000 miles on it.
The engine is a 1700 cc 40 horsepower factory rebuilt case with a 64 mm counter weighted crank and 94 mm pistons.  It has dual port heads with Kadron carburetors. Engine is balanced with a Engle 110 cam with straight cut cam gears. Connecting rods blue printed & shot peened.  This is very quick off the line and sounds great. New single quite pack exhaust.
Electrical is all upgraded to 12 volt with fluted headlight lenses and everything works.Wiring under front hood is very clean this was all removed before paint. Wire has correct color coding. Original cardboard trunk liner. Has original radio (6 volt) not hooked up. Nice original dash & steering wheel
Built this two years ago and it just sits in the garage.  Needs to go to a good home. Another VW project almost done and I need the space.
New roof rack, mud flaps.
Looks and runs great !!! All work professionally done by the largest northwest  V W shop, Oval's Motorsport" in Milton Washington

VW says it has sold over 100,000 TDI diesels in America this year

Thu, 26 Dec 2013

Volkswagen Group of America has lit oil-burning fireworks to celebrate the sales of more than 100,000 TDI Clean Diesel vehicles in the US between its VW and Audi brands this year. According to VW, that means it is responsible for more than 75 percent of diesel-engined cars and SUVs sold here - perhaps not surprising when the two brands offer a total of 12 diesel models.
What might be surprising is that the number of diesels isn't far off the estimated sales of 90,000 battery electric vehicles and PHEVs, with 15,000 of those accounted for by the Tesla Model S, another 12,000 or so being the Toyota Prius PHEV.
VW's keen to play up the ease of making diesel part of your life, stressing that it doesn't need any change to the refueling infrastructure and that "this is a technology delivering real answers to society's concerns about fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions without compromises."

Brand new cars are being sold with defective Takata airbags

Wed, Jun 1 2016

If you just bought a 2016 Audi TT, 2017 Audi R8, 2016–17 Mitsubishi i-MiEV, or 2016 Volkswagen CC, we have some unsettling news for you. A report provided to a US Senate committee that oversees the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and reported on by Automotive News claims these vehicles were sold with defective Takata airbags. And it gets worse. Toyota and FCA are called out in the report for continuing to build vehicles that will need to be recalled down the line for the same issue. That's not all. The report also states that of the airbags that have been replaced already in the Takata recall campaign, 2.1 million will need to eventually be replaced again. They don't have the drying agent that prevents the degradation of the ammonium nitrate, which can lead to explosions that can destroy the airbag housing and propel metal fragments at occupants. So these airbags are out there already. We're not done yet. There's also a stockpile of about 580,000 airbags waiting to be installed in cars coming in to have their defective airbags replaced. These 580k airbags also don't have the drying agent. They'll need to be replaced down the road, too. A new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time. If all this has you spinning around in a frustrated, agitated mess, there's a silver lining that is better than it sounds. So take a breath, run your fingers through your hair, and read on. Our best evidence right now demonstrates that defective Takata airbags – those without the drying agent that prevents humidity from degrading the ammonium nitrate propellant – aren't dangerous yet. It takes a long period of time combined with high humidity for them to reach the point where they can rupture their housing and cause serious injury. It's a matter of years, not days. So a new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time – and six years seems to be about as early as the degradation happens in the worst possible scenario. All this is small comfort for the millions of people who just realized their brand-new car has a time bomb installed in the wheel or dashboard, or the owners who waited patiently to have their airbags replaced only to discover that the new airbag is probably defective in the same way (although newer and safer!) as the old one.

UAW angered over VW workers getting right to defend anti-union vote

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

The United Auto Workers have called a decision by the National Labor Relations Board allowing anti-UAW employees at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga the right to defend voting down unionization at the plant "an outrage."
You'll recall that the union was defeated by a vote of 712 to 626 in a contentious February election. The UAW claims the outcome was unfairly swayed by pro-business, anti-union forces, including Senator Bob Corker and political advocate Grover Norquist.
This new decision by the NLRB essentially gives workers backed by the anti-UAW National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation and Southern Momentum a formal voice in the impending hearing on the UAW's appeal of the vote.
