I'm selling a converted ELECTRIC 1974 VW bug.
The vehicle was a project that a few engineering students and I took on a few years back. The car has no gasoline/combustion engine being that it was converted into an electric battery vehicle. It runs on battery power. There is an 120V electric socket that can plug right into any standard home socket to recharge the batteries where the gas nozzle normally is. Though the vehicle is not functioning, it can serve as a platform and guide for your electric vehicle projects, and the parts from the bug can easily be transferred onto any 1960-1979 body.
*PLEASE NOTE The vehicle is not in a ready driving condition.*
There's no AC
no power steering
no power window
no airbags
no spare wheel
no GPS
no power seats
the seat belts are not currently installed.
This is a 1974 bug and not a 2013 bug.
The bug houses:
a clutch-less shifting transmission;
an Alltrax Axe 7245 controller (retails about $600 new);
a Motor AMD 8" #203-06-4001 8" 72-96VDC 17.5HP Series Wound Single Shaft (That retails about $1200 new);
a Zivan NG1 high frequency battery charger.
It runs off of a 2 x 72 parallel configured battery pack (12 x 12-volt deep cycle batteries in the back with their own enclosed compartment) and 2 12-volt accessory batteries in the front compartment.
The charge usually last for about 70 miles and it requires a 5-6 hour recharge.
The car was put into storage somewhat close to the beach and rust developed; the rust ate away a lot of the underside of the vehicle and it will need to be towed on a flatbed for transportation. The body, save for the rust underneathe, is in great condition as shown the pictures. 1960 - 1979 VW Beetle bodies can be found online relatively easily and in good condition. The paint is still intact and there are no breaks or dents in the shell. The inside of the bug is in great condition as well. (also shown in the pictures) The material of the seats is not punctured and the cushioning inside the seats is still very comfortable.
This is a great electric car conversion starter project because this car could easily serve as a guide car for your electric vehicle conversion project and I have digital manuals and diagrams of all the wiring. The whole project took no more than a month for a few college students. The bug saved us easily $200 + on gas every month.
This is not the vehicle for you if you're not capable to repairing or building an electric vehicle- Go buy a Tesla or Chevy Volt. or Nissan Leaf. If however, you have the electrical/engineering skills or are very handy, and you're interested in building your own electric vehicle, this is the vehicle to help you start your project and break your dependence on fossil fuels.

VW LogBox and Race App performance data logger for R models [w/video]
Tue, Dec 30 2014Now that it's got a 300-horsepower Golf R to brag about, Volkswagen wants you to be able to brag about it accurately with the LogBox and Race App performance data logging combo. Plug the LogBox into your VW's OBD II port and it sends data over BlueTooth to the Race App, measuring variables like acceleration, distance, G-force and engine performance. If you're on a circuit, it uses Google Maps to make a map of the track, and you can record live video in-app to match with the data. Volkswagen says the LogBox will be available for R models and "a range of further Volkswagen cars," so you'll want to hit up your dealer with questions before ordering. It's available from the VW accessories store for 299 euros ($365 US), but right now the free app is only available in German, in the German-language iTunes and Google Play store. We imagine that will be corrected shortly; in the meantime, the video can show you how it works. Sunday Drive: Variety is the spice of life
Sun, Nov 12 2017If there's any one new vehicle the entire world is anxiously waiting for, it's the Jeep Wrangler. Yes, of course the iconic off-roader has a loyal following here in America, but you could plop a Wrangler pretty much anywhere on the globe and everybody will know what it is. Put simply, the redesigned 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL has big, muddy shoes to fill, and the readers of Autoblog are just as interested in the Wrangler's rebirth as anyone else. Moving along, we were fortunate enough last week to spend a bit of time in nearly every version of the venerable Volkswagen Golf all in one day. There isn't a Golf we don't like, but there's one, easily identifiable by its three-digit name, that stands above all the rest: GTI. We think it's the best Golf you can buy, even if there's an R-badged variant that slots above the GTI in VW hierarchy. Rounding out our recap are three vehicles that could hardly be more different. The 2019 GMC Sierra, which was seen wearing pretty light camouflage, is a truck. The Lamborghini Terzo Millennio – which isn't going to go on sale, ever, at any price – is a conceptual supercar. And the Honda CB1000R is a retro-themed naked standard motorcycle. Variety really is the spice of life. 2018 Jeep Wrangler spy shot mega gallery Driving nearly every VW Golf: Base, GTI, R, Alltrack — here's what we learned 2019 GMC Sierra spied sporting just a thin wrapping The Lamborghini Terzo Millennio is a brutally fantastic EV supercar concept Honda unveils 2 new motorcycles, including retro-flavored CB1000R Image Credit: Brian Williams GMC Honda Jeep Lamborghini Volkswagen Technology Truck Convertible Crossover Hatchback SUV Performance sunday drive vw golf gti lamborghini terzo millennio
Small 3-row crossover SUVs specifications compared on paper
Thu, May 10 2018There's no shortage of three-row vehicles on the market for carrying seven or more people and their stuff wherever they all need to go. Just about every car company has at least one large crossover or traditional SUV with three rows of seats, and there are still plenty of minivans to pick from. But most of these vehicles are large, pricey, and frequently thirsty. Fortunately, there are still a handful of smaller crossovers that deliver 7-passenger capability in a smaller, cheaper package. We've gathered four of the small three-row set here to compare them based on space, power, fuel economy, pricing, and more. They include the very old Dodge Journey, the slightly less old Mitsubishi Outlander and Kia Sorento, and the relatively new Volkswagen Tiguan. You can see the raw numbers in the chart below, followed by a more detailed breakdown and some notes on how we like each of these vehicles. For in-depth opinions on the vehicles, be sure to check out our full reviews, and if you want to compare these with other vehicles, try out our comparison tools. Engines, transmissions and performance Interestingly, three of the four crossovers here utilize similar engines for their four-cylinder offerings. The Dodge, Kia and Mitsubishi all feature naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Only the Volkswagen Tiguan chooses turbocharging and a smaller 2.0-liter displacement. But because of its turbocharger, the Tiguan's four-cylinder is easily the most potent, making a healthy 221 pound-feet of torque, which is more than 40 more than the Sorento, the crossover with the next most torque. The VW is also second-most powerful, just one horse behind the Sorento. The Outlander is the least powerful in the four-cylinder class. The Journey is only barely better, but it will probably feel as slow or worse thanks to its ancient 4-speed automatic. The four-cylinder Sorento and Outlander each have 6-speed automatic transmissions, and the VW has an 8-speed. The Sorento with a V6 has an 8-speed, too. View 17 Photos Moving up to the V6 class, the Outlander is once again at the bottom. It actually makes less torque than the turbo VW Tiguan. The Journey and Sorento are almost perfectly matched. The Journey makes a bit more torque; the Sorento makes a bit more power. The Journey also gets upgraded to a 6-speed automatic. Another powertrain consideration to bare in mind is whether all-wheel-drive is necessary.
