Custom 1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle New Engine, Tranny, Interior, And Paint on 2040-cars
Olympia, Washington, United States
For Sale a 1974 Super Beetle. This car has been a restoration project for the past four years. I have spent a lot of money in parts and labor to get it where it is now. As the saying goes, I have another project that I need to get done, so this one needs to go. I want to sell it so someone can enjoy it rather than having it sit in a garage.
The car has a new rebuilt 1776 long block built by GEX engines. Dual Kadron Carbs by lowbugget.com, numerous new engine parts including air cleaners, new alternator, valve covers, fuel pump, fuel lines, exhaust, one hidden muffler on car and one performance muffler that comes with car. Since car is lowered, I didn't end up using it. New distributor, New coil and wires. All plugs are new. Just recently added the new starter with the new battery. The engine has been ran numerous times but only has about twenty miles on it.
Car has a rebuilt transmission from Rancho Transmissions with 0 miles. It is the freeway flyer model which runs at a lower RPM at higher speeds. New clutch and flywheel.
BODY- car has 2 inch wider fiberglass front fenders and 3 inch wider fiberglass rear fenders. I added the older style headlights and 39 Ford led tail lights. I also added the blinkers on top of the fenders and the parking lights are inside with the headlights. Matching fiberglass running boards are smooth amd really add to the custom look. I removed the front and rear bumpers and added a smooth steel front and rear apron. The engine lid has a license plate recess welded in. I also welded all of the trim holes on the sides of the car for a smoother look, leaving the hood trim on the car. I also welded closed the stock mirror that stuck out of the door and added mirrors to the door hinges like older models. The stock fuel door has been removed and a trick motorcycle filler was added. The cap is aluminum, it pops up and allows you to turn it to fill up.
The only rust on the body when I got it was the passenger rear floor board and the front of the driver's side floor board. It also had rust below the driver's side air vent in the rear. I replaced both floor boards with full length reproductions. I also repaired the air vent rust and removed the inner foam material to prevent it from returning. While I was in there, it was sprayed with rust inhibitor paint.
The car was painted Plum Crazy Purple with a satin clear. The car just glows in the sun. It is a beautiful shade to go on this car. Since the paint is satin, all of the chrome didn't look right being shiny. So the chrome trim, door handles, mirrors, and handles were bought new and then made to look brushed.
INTERIOR- The original dash was cracked and old and was replaced with a fiberglass dash and center consle from Glass Action. A new speedo, tach, fuel, oil press, oil temp, cylinder head temp, and volt were also added. Car has brand new oatmeal colored carpet in the interior and trunk and new tan headliner. I also added new front seats from Procar. The seats are the Pro 90 front seats in tan. I also added the rear seat cover, door panels, and arm rests. These seats look amazing in the car and are really comfortable compared to the original worn out seats. I also got a new steering wheel which is almost an exact match in color to the seats. The interior is finished with new seat belts, cd player, blinker arm and switch, light switch, and hazard switch. I also added a new engine wiring harness and replaced some of the original wiring as it needed it.
I can go on and on with the new parts that have been bought. I also have new windshield and gasket, rear window gasket, added pop out rear windows with new gaskets, new trunk rubber, new engine rubber, door rubbers, one piece side windows, new e-brake handle and much more.
Front has new front end "lowered" kit and "super low" kit from Topline parts. They are lowered struts and springs. Added front disk brakes, new master cylinder, new drums and shoes in rear, new brake cylinders, front braided brake lines, sway bar. Car looks great lowered. Rear has been lowered to match.
Car has new wheels and tires with no miles. Wheels are widened "smoothie wheels." Fronts 6 1/2 by 15 and rears are 8 by 15. They fill up the widened fenders and give it a nasty look. The tires are low profile but not so low that you worry about a bad ride. They are painted black with chrome hubcaps.
That is most of the good stuff. The bad stuff is the car is not ready to drive on the street yet. A few small things need to be done. The brakes need to be bled, it needs a front end alignment, gauges need to be wired, if heat is desired, it needs ducting from base of heating ducts near front of car to the vents that are mounted in the dash. Very minor things. I may have forgotten a few but all of the major work has been done and then some. Again, this car needs to be enjoyed and not just sitting in my garage. e-brake not hooked up.
Comes with lots of new parts as mentioned and old parts. I believe I have everything for the car except for new sun visors and the bracket that attaches the fuel sender to the tank. Easily attainable parts.
With a little work, could be cruising this summer. I have invested way more then what I am asking.
Engine, carbs, misc parts-$3000.00 Transmission- $1000.00 Interior- $1100 Paint- $1800 Suspension- $1000.00 Wheels/Tires- $1100.00 And this is being conservative. Thanks for looking. Contact me for more pics of what you want to see or if you want to view the car. This month's deals on wheels: 3 cars with incentives, rebates
Fri, Apr 7 2017On television, they come at you rapid-fire: truck deals, car deals, SUV deals. You don't have time to read the fine print, and many sound too good to be true. What follows are three deals that are both good and true. And check out our entire list of incentives and rebates. VOLKSWAGEN JETTA: With Dieselgate winding down and VW's all-new three-row SUV – the Atlas – winding up, Volkswagen is selling sedans with incentives. The Jetta remains VW's bestseller in the US. If you're looking for an immodest deal on modest transportation, you can do worse than a lease on the 2017 Jetta S. THE DETAILS: Purchase at 0.9% APR (no down payment required, available on new 2017 Jetta models financed by Volkswagen Credit, participating dealers only). At that rate, you could save $1,600 over the life of a loan. Offer ends May 1, but given the tepid market interest in sedans, incentives will probably continue through the balance of the model year. NISSAN TITAN CREW CAB: While some buyers will wait for Nissan's recently announced Titan King Cab, and commercial users will grab the regular cab and 8-foot bed, we'll recommend a lightly optioned 4X4 crew cab with standard V8 power, California-penned sheetmetal and a made-in-America footprint. Nissan's full-size pickup is finally a credible competitor in the pickup segment. THE DETAILS: With $3,500 cash back, on top of whatever deal you negotiate, Nissan is effectively reducing the window sticker of a Titan S crew cab by almost 10 percent. MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER: Some cars show up on buyers' radar, some don't. Some aren't anywhere near the radar room. Mitsubishi's Outlander is one of those. But that doesn't diminish its basic attractiveness, especially for young families looking for an affordable three-row SUV with responsive power and competitive features. Add one of the industry's longest warranties and a compelling deal, and you suddenly have reason to track down a Mitsubishi dealer. THE DETAILS: It couldn't be simpler – negotiate your best deal on a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander, and then receive a $2,000 rebate; on a remaining 2016, it's $3,000. We'd select a fully-equipped GT 3.0S – AWC, which hooks Mitsubishi's V6 to a conventional automatic (vs. a CVT on lower-priced models) and all-wheel drive. That's a window sticker of about $34,000, and you can count on an aggressive posture by the dealer to get your business. Mitsubishi Nissan Volkswagen Car Buying Buying Guide Truck SUV Sedan
Volkswagen reveals Beetle GSR, R-Line convertible and two special GTIs
Thu, 07 Feb 2013Volkswagen has chosen to really expand its performance-tuned portfolio at this year's Chicago Auto Show, bringing along a couple of new Beetles destined for model year 2014, as well as a pair of freshened GTI packages that you'll be able to buy almost right away.
The first, and splashiest of the Chicago goodies on the VW stand has got to be the 2014 Volkswagen Beetle GSR. Don't lose your temper, Acura Integra geeks; in this case, GSR stands for "Gelb Schwarzer Renner" or "Yellow Black Racer," and harkens back to a sport-tuned classic Beetle from the 1970s. For the 2014 iteration, the GSR gets a 210-horsepower version of VW's 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder. That engine is enough to push the Beetle to 60 miles per hour in 6.6 seconds, and up to a top speed of 130 mph.
Of course, you'll have long-since noticed the shockingly yellow-and-black livery before you stumble across the Turbo badge on the rear deck. The GSR gets 19-inch alloy wheels, 235-section tires and a tea-tray rear spoiler, but it's the paint and graphics package that will decide if this is your (lemony) cup of tea. Things don't get any subtler inside the car, either, as VW has carried the colorway through to the interior, as well. Only 3,500 Beetle GSRs will be produced, with just more than half of those going to the US - call your dealer today, Wiz Khalifa.
Tesla tires turning on Stretchla Vanagon EV conversion project
Tue, Jan 7 2014It is one thing to say you are going to Frankenstein a Tesla Model S with a pair of Siamese-twinned Volkswagen Vanagons and quite another to actually start taking your newly-acquired, smashed-up electric sedan apart in an effort to bring it back to life. Otmar Ebenhoech is doing just that, and having no small successes along the way. The Stretchla project, as it is being called, has officially started and our protagonist has put together another bit of video to document his progress and let us know about some of the different challenges he's encountered and conquered. While our original post about this endeavor featured video of the stretched Vanagon's drivetrain removal, this latest installment focuses on the Model S. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition and has been tackling some of the basic problems one might expect to encounter: lots of error messages and an electrically disconnected battery pack. Without the aid of a manual or technical diagrams, he's removed the battery pack and discovered why it wasn't sending power to the car. Scroll below to watch the ten-minute presentation and celebrate some initial victories. You can also check out the official Stretchla blog for more photos and updates, including the most recent one that discusses how he talked himself into paying (*spoiler alert) $42,000 for a wrecked, non-functional electric car, along with more recent struggles with the steering rack. Hit us up in the comments to let us know what kind of trouble you would get into with a Model S drivetrain of your own. This content is hosted by a third party.
