This 1972 resto/custom Super Beetle is a garage kept and cared for car, its a real head turner! It sits on a set of fully polished 15" OEM Porsche Fuchs wheels, KYB gas-adjust shocks and an adjustable front suspension lowering kit. The rear of the car has been customized to the look of a mid 60's sedan, adding new fenders (all 4), rear clip and deck lid, OEM 60's tail lights, all new Wolfsburg West body rubber and rear pop-out windows with OEM glass. All paint, House of Kolor, Tangelo Pearl, and body work was done professionally by Tracy Tichenor @ T&R Auto body, part of the All Star cast on "Overhaul'n". Billet side & rear view mirrors, steering wheel, running boards and misc accessories can be found through out the interior and exterior. The front seats are reupholstered Mazda 323 seats wrapped in salt & pepper gray tweed along with the rest of the interior. The rear seat was removed in favor of a custom stereo system featuring two 12" subwoofers. For reliability, the engine was kept mostly stock except for "bolt-on" accessories, including a progressive Weber carburetor, pointless ignition and Flame-thrower coil and new chrome engine tins. New VDO gauges, wiring harness and matching Fuchs spare tire are a few other features of this car. This car has been pictured in HotVWs and VWTrends magazine! I am selling this car because I have moved and my parents want their garage back. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call, my name is Mark, 484-241-9208. I have receipts for all parts that were purchased during the restoration of this car as well. Transportation of this car is the responsibility of the buyer but I gladly help out with any coordination that is necessary. |

Brazil contemplates safety exemption for VW Kombi as it goes out of production today [w/poll]
Tue, 31 Dec 2013Brazil: the country of carnivals, indescribable beauty adjacent to abject poverty, Ayrton Senna and old Volkswagen models. Only they're not old - they're new, they're just based on old designs. The original Beetle continued production there long after it had been phased out elsewhere, but the original Kombi van has lasted much longer. That ends today, however, with the iconic VW Microbus ambling out of production on the last day of 2013.
VW kept making the van in Brazil with the original air-cooled 1.2-liter boxer four until 2005, after which the original design was updated with a 1.4-liter water-cooled engine. Today, however, it ultimately falls prey to safety regulations that mandate that all vehicles - no matter how old their design - need to have airbags and ABS, forcing Volkswagen do Brasil to cease production of the Microbus after a 56-year production run. But the latest word is that the Kombi (as it's presently known) could get a stay of execution - or at least a resurrection in short order.
According to reports, the Brazilian government is looking into granting the Type 2 Microbus an exemption from said safety regulations, reasoning that the van was designed long before the advent of airbags and ABS. If the measure goes through, the Kombi Last Edition (pictured above) could prove not to be the last at all. So what do you think, should the Microbus get an exemption from Brazilian safety regulations for nostalgia's sake? Vote in our poll below, then have your say in Comments.
Volkswagen Golf, Ford F-150 named 2015 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year
Mon, Jan 12 2015Congratulations, Volkswagen Golf/GTI and Ford F-150. You've just been named the 2015 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year, kicking off the first press day of the Detroit Auto Show. The Golf faced some seriously stiff competition from its runners-up, the Ford Mustang and Hyundai Genesis. But the Golf has been a highly awarded vehicle since its launch, including recently being named Motor Trend's Car of the Year. As for the Truck/Utility award, it wasn't immediately clear that the aluminum-bodied Ford F-150 would win the North American honor, topping the Chevrolet Colorado and Lincoln MKC. The Chevy, after all, has been widely praised since arriving this fall, including taking home MT's Truck of the Year award. In 2014, Chevrolet had a sweep of the NACTOY awards, with the Corvette Stingray and Silverado taking top honors. Here's a look at the 2015 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year voting breakdown. As you can see, it wasn't exactly neck and neck. Car of the Year Volkswagen Golf/GTI – 256 points Ford Mustang – 204 points Hyundai Genesis – 110 points Truck/Utility of the Year Ford F-150 – 297 points Chevrolet Colorado – 205 points Lincoln MKC – 68 points The winners were determined by the votes of 57 North American jurors who work in all forms of media – magazine, newspaper, television, online and radio, and their ballots were tabulated in secret by accounting firm Deloitte & Touche. Autoblog editors Sharon Carty and Chris Paukert are members of the North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year jury.
