This bug runs just fine, engine is strong and all gears work properly.  It is a good, solid vehicle but does show some wear.  It has about 7000 miles on it since it was built.  It has not seen any off-road use, but has been driven on dirt/gravel roads where it has been in South Dakota.  The car was originally built professionally in Surprise, AZ before it came to South Dakota.  I am selling it because I have 4 VW based vehicles and I just don't use them often enough to justify keeping them all.

The vehicle sale includes a tow bar, two extra sets of tires as listed above, and one extra set of Centerline wheels which have the studded tires mounted on them.

So, what's wrong with it?  Here are the items I'm aware of:

There are a few hail dents in the roof, courtesy of a South Dakota hail storm.
The Line lock does not work properly
There are chips in the paint in various areas, notably on the left rear fender.  The rear fenders are gray fiberglass and have been primed and rattle can painted.
There are areas on the body that have been primered and rattle can painted.  No rust, but I filled in holes in the doors left by previous owners mirror installation, also holes filled on rear quarter panels where fenders were replaced.
The VDO speedometer is driven by a magnetic sensor which is not working correctly.  I have been using the GPS for a speedometer.  The speedometer drive either needs to be replaced with a direct drive or properly located to work correctly.  As a result, the mileage shown above is way in excess of the actual mileage since the engine rebuild.

Shipping:  I do not ship.  You must make arrangements to ship the vehicle if necessary.  I can deliver the vehicle and extras in the Denver area.  I travel from Denver to Hot Springs, SD so I could meet buyer on the route to deliver also.  You can tow this car easily with the included tow bar.  PLEASE:  If you want me to deliver as stated above, contact me before bidding to make arrangements since I have a tight schedule.

Payment:  I will accept cash or bank check written on local bank.  Paypal is acceptable if you cover the paypal additional fees (2.9%).  Full payment must be made before I can deliver the vehicle to you.

Inspection:  The vehicle will be in Westminster, CO prior to the auction ending date.  You may make arrangements through ebay email to see the car anytime after June 8.

Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept is a 201-mph hot hatch

Sun, 20 Apr 2014

This, friends, is what happens when you shoehorn 395 horsepower into a Golf. You get a three-door hatch that will happily scurry to 62 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 201 mph. Oh yes, we like you, Golf R 400 Concept.
As we explained in our original post, the R 400 is the long-awaited successor to bonkers Golf creations like the GTI W12 from 2007 and, more recently, the Design Vision GTI. It's powered by the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder found in a number of Volkswagen (and Audi, SEAT and Skoda) products, although it's been heavily massaged to pump out 332 pound-feet of torque along side its amplified horsepower.
Naturally, it's been lowered and now rides on 19-inch wheels. Outside of those changes, though, mums the word on suspension and chassis enhancements. While this is a bummer, the striking looks of the Golf R 400 more than make up for it.

Volkswagen looking to acquire Proton, Lotus?

Thu, 26 Jul 2012

Let's say you're an automaker bent on world domination looking to grow your sales. That's going to have you looking at Asian markets, because that's where some of the biggest growth has been, and that's exactly what Volkswagen is doing as it considers making another run at Malaysia's Proton.
Reuters reports that Volkswagen is interested in at least a partial stake, if not a controlling interest in Lotus-parent Proton as a way to continue a production presence in the region without having to build its own factory.
Volkswagen already builds the Passat in a DRB-HICOM facility in Pekan, Malaysia, and plans are in place to build the Jetta and Polo there, as well. With both southeast Asia and its relationship with Proton figuring so importantly in Volkswagen's plans for expansion, buying into Proton can help ensure stability. Volkswagen is being tight-lipped about the whole idea, but CEO Martin Winterkorn did recently say, "it's our clear goal to continue the successful (expansion) course of past years with great dynamics and stability," which sounds an awful lot like deals are on the table to smooth the path to further growth.

Volkswagen's De Silva says next Scirocco will be 'completely different'

Tue, 02 Apr 2013

From our perspective, the reborn Volkswagen Scirocco is a handsome (if squat) little thing. Yet design-wise, it's always struck us as uncomfortably close to the Golf three-door hatchback with which it shares its basic underpinnings. That aesthetic kinship may be part of the reason why Volkswagen has steadfastly refused to import the Scirocco to North America, seeing as how the Golf doesn't regularly set the company's sales charts alight, and it's less expensive.
But that visual similarity might be about to change, says Walter De Silva, who recently told Australia's Car Advice that, "It must be completely different... we don't want to repeat the bodystyle of the Scirocco, we want to change that." Further, the Volkswagen Group's design boss says that the next-generation car isn't terribly far along in development yet - "at the moment, it's only a studio [project]... it's not defined." It's probably just as well, as the new seventh-generation Golf arguably borrows some of its design from the current Scirocco anyway.
So we should expect a much bolder, more differentiated design, right? Well, yes, no and maybe. Back in September, De Silva himself was quoted as saying that the era of flamboyant styling has passed, and that future VW designs will be simpler to better reflect the times and preserve resale value. So... how different could it be?
