58 Volkswagen Beetle on 2040-cars
Alba, Michigan, United States
Ok, up for sale 1958 Volkswagen Beetle I have owned this car for 35+ years used to be my drive-to-work car in another lifetime or so it seems. The engine runs, no funny noises the tranny shifts, rear drive works fine, the glass is not broken, most of the original parts are still on this car! This engine will need rebuilt ... it smokes some. The gas tank has never leaked, but will need cleaned...radio ??? wipers and motor did work etc. I used an electric fuel pump to run it because the gas tank needs cleaned and lines installed. It is in rough condition, body wise, not much of an interior as the photos show, and the floor pan and rails are rough condition. No battery is included with the car! You must let me know 48 hrs in advance of pickup, so I can get the car out. I have a clear title to this car. It is hard to find this old original stuff any more so that is what you will get if bought. I don't need to sell this thing so keep that in mind when trying to buy it. The car is sold.. AS IS, WHERE IS, NO WARRANTY OR IMPLIED RUNNING CONDITION OTHER THAN AS I HAVE DESCRIBED. I will not ship the car, that would be your call and your expense. I need the sale to be : CASH, OR CERTIFED BANK DRAFT, OR CASHIERS CHECK. The car will not leave my possession until the payment has cleared my bank, period. ALSO, PLEASE NOTE.. You, the buyer will need to transport this vehicle some way.. the tires leak air and are junk so it cannot be towed, IMO. ANY QUESTION PLS. CONTACT ME

VW agrees to halt next-gen rally car development to help others stay in WRC
Sat, 22 Jun 2013Volkswagen has petitioned the FIA to hold on to the current specifications for cars in the World Rally Championship, according to Autosport.com. The move is evidently an effort to keep as many competitors in the sport as possible, despite the fact that using the current spec racers may actually hurt Volkswagen's chances at winning. The three factory teams currently competing in the WRC are at the end of a three-year homologation cycle at the end of 2013, and new cars are expected to bow next year. But developing new racers could cost as much as $4.7 million.
That price tag would put M-Sport (which fields Ford racers) out of the WRC game for 2014 and would put Citroën participation in question as well. VW has already begun work on the next iteration of its Polo R WRC, and the hatch has nabbed four wins in six rounds this season. Now it appears that car won't bow until at least 2015. The FIA has officially agreed to freeze homologation of new WRC cars until the end of next season.
Skoda unveils Volkswagen Up!-based Citigo
Tue, 27 Sep 2011This is the all-new Skoda Citigo, and if you're thinking that it looks rather familiar, that's because its Volkswagen-badged kin recently debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. That's right, the long-rumored Skoda version of Volkswagen's new Up! city car has finally arrived.
Buyers will have a choice of two 1.0-liter three-cylinder engines - one with 59 horsepower, the other with a 74 hp and a blistering 106 mph top speed - both mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Powerful they are not, but these three-bangers should prove to be extremely efficient, with Skoda quoting fuel economy numbers of 62.8 and 60.1 miles per gallon, respectively (on the European cycle).
Being a Skoda, the Citigo will go on sale in its home market of the Czech Republic this fall, with the rest of Europe getting the car next summer. Follow the jump for Skoda's official release.
VW Chattanooga plant very close to UAW representation
Tue, 11 Nov 2014After months of fighting from both sides, it looks like the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, might unionize under the United Auto Workers after all. According to a letter acquired by The Associated Press, VW and the UAW reportedly struck a deal last spring where the union agreed to stop its challenge of the organization vote with the National Labor Relations Board to help clear the way for the CrossBlue to be produced in Tennessee. In exchange, the automaker would recognize the UAW at the plant. Leaders of the Local 42 at the facility reportedly signed the letter.
It seems that such an agreement would clear the way for the factory to unionize after months of dispute. According to The Detroit News, under Tennessee law, workers aren't required to join the organization. Although, that might not be a problem. As of a few months ago, Local 42 already claimed to have signed around 700 of the plant's roughly 1,500 workers.
Controversy has constantly swirled around the possible unionization at the Chattanooga plant. The UAW held its official decision in February and lost 712 to 626. However, there were allegations of intense political pressure to make sure the ballot failed. A later report also found that VW was offered $300 million in incentives well before the vote to make sure things progressed to the "satisfaction of the State of Tennessee," but the deal was later retracted. In July, the UAW opened Local 42 on the campus in hopes of signing up a majority of the workforce by volunteering to be a part of it.
