Original owner.

Decent looking exterior but with cosmetic blemishes, imperfections, dings and scratches. ( Nothing a good paint ob can't fix) . Gets 45-55 mph, runs good and continues to be a great commuting car. Lots of power and smooth acceleration.

Doors hinges are tricky. But, no body rust. Only the running boards show early onset of rust. Carpets got wet once and a repair was made that looks Ok but not like new, but the heated leather seats and the dash are good.

This is a well running commuting car kept in top notch running shape. I had every intention of taking it to a quarter million miles and invested $ 6,000 into it over the last 2 years. Yes, way more than the value of the car, but because it gets such good mileage and has been so reliable , I fixed whatever it needed because I had planned to keep it rolling. I have run only synthetic oil since day 1 and religiously changed the oil in regular intervals. The turbo diesel engine runs great. I also changed the timing belts every 80 K miles (last time at 160K). I run this car in New York and was very focused on preventing rust.
It has the winter package: heated leather seats, and I am giving you a set of snow tires on rims with it.

It has been professionally maintained by a VW mechanic shop in my village since I bought it.

Here is what it has in it:
New Tires
New Turbo Charger
New battery
New alternator
New starter
New steering box
New rear brake line
New tie rods and shocks/struts
New wipers.

I would get in this car right now to drive cross country with no worries.  Sold as is. Comes with 4 additional snow tires on rims. This car would be great for a student, a commuter or anyone who needs cheap but reliable transportation.

VW will need to recall 323,700 diesel vehicles in India

Wed, Dec 2 2015

Volkswagen Group's diesel emissions scandal continues to spread, and now the automaker must recall 323,700 diesel vehicles in India because of too much pollution, according to Bloomberg. The campaign covers models from several of the group's brands including VW, Audi, and Skoda. The Automotive Research Association of India first discovered the emissions irregularities after conducting its own real world and lab tests, and the Indian government then commanded VW to explain what was happening. The country's regulators will allow the automaker to set the recall schedule for the repairs, according to a government official who spoke to Bloomberg, and the campaign will likely happen in phases. Among the affected vehicles, there will be about 100,000 from the VW brand including the Jetta, Passat, and some variants of the Polo. VW already has repairs for some of the affected diesel engines in Europe, and the company can allegedly fix the emissions problem with new software and small hardware changes. The situation is harder in the US where regulators still need to approve any proposed solutions, and VW also must now recall its 3.0-liter V6 TDI in California to eliminate other problematic code. The German automaker faces investigations from regulators all over the world into its emissions evasions, and they could be quite costly. One estimate already suggests the minimum price of the potential repairs, fines, and other expenses at about $24.5 billion. Officials in Brazil have already fined the company $13 million for pollution issues with the diesel Amarok pickup and requested a recall to fix them.

Anti-UAW VW workers move to form own union

Sat, 30 Aug 2014

The struggle over unionization at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, continues to get more complicated. There's now a second union fighting to organize at the plant; although this one is staunchly against the actions of the United Auto Workers. At the same time, the UAW is still signing up voluntary members to its recently created Local 42 at the facility and is reportedly near having a majority of the hourly employees on its side.
The new, anti-UAW union campaign is being spearheaded by employee Mike Burton, according to Reuters, and he calls his group the American Council of Employees. He claims to already have 108 signatures in support of his organization. Burton believes that the UAW is harmful to businesses, and his goal is to force another vote to determine a preferred union among workers.
The UAW was initially defeated (712 to 626) when it attempted a union vote at the Tennessee plant in February. However, UAW secretary-treasurer Gary Casteel told Reuters that Local 42 has already signed up over 700 members. If it can reach a majority of the roughly 1,500 employees, the group hopes VW might consider recognizing it as the factory's union.

Volkswagen Golf Variant will make a lovely Jetta SportWagen

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

In addition to several other versions of the Golf, Volkswagen is debuting the new Golf Variant (read: wagon) here at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. And if this bigger version of the Golf looks like it might fit right at home in the States, it's because we could possibly see some version of this car as the next-generation Jetta SportWagen here on our shores.
Volkswagen is debuting the Golf Variant with two efficient diesel engines, rated at 110 and 150 horsepower, the smaller of which is good for an impressive 71.3 miles per gallon on the European cycle (when mated to a six-speed manual transmission). The Golf Variant also gets a version of Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, making it incredibly all-weather capable.
It's a handsome estate, and it wears the new Golf's design language well. We can't say for sure if this car will actually make its way Stateside, but given the fact that the current Jetta SportWagen still rides on the old Golf platform, the odds look to be in our favor.
