Item relisted due to non-paying bidder. (tressor 6) Please due not bid unless you intend on purchasing.    1978 VW Convertible, white on white with fuel injection motor and manual transmission. The car has been in storage for a few years but will run with fresh gas. Exterior- The paint on the car is flaking as seen in the pictures and it has a few minor dents here and there with the worst one being on the passenger door as shown. All four fenders are in good shape, the hood has paint flaking and the trunk is in nice shape. The front and rear aprons have not been altered and are good and straight. The top is cut in a few spots and will need to be replaced. All of the glass is without cracks. The trim is there but the bumpers show surface rust on the tops. The running boards are in good shape and you can stand on the rockers and the car doesnt budge. The tires are very nice with lots of tread. Three of the rims are missing the center caps.

Interior- The front seats are ripped but original and the rear seat is in good shape. The dash is without cracks and is in excellent condition. Doors panels are also nice. One kick panel is missing under the rear seat. The headliner will need to be replaced.

Floor- The floor is solid and has not been repalced but it does have a hole under the battery. The very front of the pan is rusted through and should be repaired.

Mechanical- The original running fuel injection 1.6 liter motor is in it and will run well with good gas. The tranny works fine

Tilte- I do not have the title for the car. It was lost and could help obtain a replacement if needed.

ATTTENTION: The last picture is of a 1979 I have that is virtually rust free from California and is NOT included in the auction but is for sale. It's complete but apart to be restored.

Summary- All in all this is a pretty solid car. You can stand on the rockers and the car doesnt move at all. The doors still open and close nicely. Its a non-altered car that needs a little tlc to make it nice. A paint job and top would go a long way. Please ask questions and pre-sale inspections are encouraged. I have described this item to the best of my ability and again, please ask questions.

VW agrees to halt next-gen rally car development to help others stay in WRC

Sat, 22 Jun 2013

Volkswagen has petitioned the FIA to hold on to the current specifications for cars in the World Rally Championship, according to Autosport.com. The move is evidently an effort to keep as many competitors in the sport as possible, despite the fact that using the current spec racers may actually hurt Volkswagen's chances at winning. The three factory teams currently competing in the WRC are at the end of a three-year homologation cycle at the end of 2013, and new cars are expected to bow next year. But developing new racers could cost as much as $4.7 million.
That price tag would put M-Sport (which fields Ford racers) out of the WRC game for 2014 and would put Citroën participation in question as well. VW has already begun work on the next iteration of its Polo R WRC, and the hatch has nabbed four wins in six rounds this season. Now it appears that car won't bow until at least 2015. The FIA has officially agreed to freeze homologation of new WRC cars until the end of next season.

Next Volkswagen Golf R to get 286 horsepower?

Tue, 12 Feb 2013

The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf hasn't launched in the United States just yet, but we're already setting our sights on the range-topping R model. According to Autocar, the next Golf R will be more powerful than the current version, producing 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful production Golf ever.
Powering the new Golf R will be a further evolution of Volkswagen's well-liked 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, and when mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, the hotter hatch will reportedly be able to sprint to 62 miles per hour in five seconds flat. That's over half a second quicker than the current US-spec model.
Other updates for the new Golf R include the addition of VW's Haldex 5 all-wheel-drive system found in the latest iteration of 4Motion. Furthermore, thanks to the use of lightweight materials, the new R is expected to weigh in around 2,650 pounds - that's a massive 675 pounds less than the current US-spec car. The exhaust has reportedly been reworked to provide more aural delight, as well.

Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.
