1978 Super Beetle Convertible Limited Champagne Edition Ii Rare on 2040-cars
Land O' Lakes, Florida, United States
Up for sale is a rare 1978 Super Beetle Convertible Limited Champagne Edition II. The car just received a 4 out of 5 on recent appraisal! That rating is unheard of for a driver with 86k original miles. The Car has a Saddle Tan Convertible Top, a beautiful white interior. There is also a new clutch and bearing added to the car. The car also has a Quartz Clock with AM/FM radio. This car is ready to drive or add to your collection. Powered by rebuilt original 1.6 L fuel injected engine less than 2000 miles ago with 48 HP, it is also fitted with new tires. Volkswagen Champagne Edition HISTORY The Champagne Edition II convertibles were only produced a single year (1978) and available only in two single-year colors; Ancona Blue Metallic and Peach Red Metallic. That year, each dealer was allotted only two of the Champagne II models and the cars were quickly gobbled up by excited consumers and knowledgeable buyers who knew Volkswagen was nearing the end of its convertible beetle production. In early sales, the Ancona Blue Metallic was a more popular color making the Peach Red Metallic the rarest of the two. It is estimated that only 272 of the Limited Champagne Edition II were made worldwide (source: Barrett Jackson.com). |

Jalopnik and Consumer Reports see who can pull off the best snow drift
Fri, Feb 20 2015The weather throughout much of the United States is pretty awful at the moment with some combination of extremely low temperatures, inches of snow and maybe some ice underneath it all. The folks at Jalopnik and Consumer Reports are making the absolute best out of a difficult situation by heading to CR's snow-covered test track and attempting to make the longest drift in a quartet of very different performance vehicles. Jalopnik brought along a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon, a Subaru WRX STI, a BMW 228i and a 1973 Volkswagen Baja Bug (heck yeah!) for the challenge. Also, the track was perfect for this group, with a mix of packed snow in places and still a few inches of unsullied powder in spots too. Ostensibly the goal was to get the tail to step out through a particular corner, but in reality this was more about having hilarious fun in the snow with fast cars. The result just looks like the best time humanly possible in this weather.
NA auto output to reach 11-year peak
Thu, 13 Jun 2013According to Automotive News, automakers are expected to manufacture 16 million light vehicles in North America in 2013. That's up 500,000 units from last year and marks the largest number since 2002. The prediction comes courtesy of LMC Automotive and IHS Automotive, which point to the improving US economy as a bellwether for total production. LMC Automotive says North America will produce 16 million vehicles while IHS has a slightly more optimistic forecast of 16.1 million units. A total of seven automakers are slated to increase production on the continent this year. Nissan is set to see the largest jump at 20 percent over last year.
Volkswagen, meanwhile, is one of the only manufacturers predicted to scale back production. Analysts expect the German company's output to fall by 23 percent to 170,000 units, thanks in part to slow demand for the Volkswagen Passat and Jetta.
VW updates Scirocco with revised styling, new engines
Sun, 16 Feb 2014The Scirocco is undoubtedly one of the better-looking models in the Volkswagen lineup, but introduced back in 2008, it's now been on the market - some markets, anyway - for the better part of six years. VW is said to have an all-new replacement in the works, but before that arrives, the German automaker has announced a facelifted version with revised styling and a new engine lineup.
Set to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the new Scirocco benefits from updated styling front and rear, high-tech exterior lighting, a revised cabin space with some throwback retro touches, some new technologies and, of course, an array of fresh wheel options ranging from 17 to 19 inches.
The updated Scirocco will be offered with a wide array of engines right from the get-go, including four gasoline options and two diesels, spanning from 125 horsepower all the way up to the 280-hp Scirocco R. The 2014 model hits European showrooms in August, but unfortunately isn't any more likely to make the transatlantic voyage Stateside than the version it replaces. Still interested? There's plenty to see in the high-res image gallery above and details in the press release below.
