1977 VW Super Beetle Convertible Champagne Edition
In 1977 and 1978 VW issued one Champagne Edition Convertible to each dealership also known as a "Special US Sales Campaign" model 723. This was essentially a "Triple White" convertible but used a sand colored convertible top and had a set of four gold stripes running along the bottom of the doors and quarter panels. The 1977 model hadd faux burled elm inserts and the 1978 had faux rosewood dash inserts. Both had opal colored ribbon weave seat and smooth door panel coverings. Approximately 1000 total triple white S723 convertibles were sold in the US. My father purchased this car about ten years ago at a Goodwill Auction in Richmond Virginia. It had come from the Sausalito CA area by the sticker on the rear bumper and is in amazing shape. It is a California car having catalytic converter. This car is in excellent condition. My father installed a new top, seats and door panels. Still has the original boot. This car has only 45,000 miles which is amazing. This special model also ca,e with the original sport wheels. It still has the original radio as well. He has gone through the engine with new cylinder heads (have old ones in a box) new mahle Pistons, rings and pins, new connecting rod bearings and all new gaskets. Rebuilt alternator and starter. Air flow meter has been recalibrated. Interior wise besides mentioned earlier has new rear side panels, seat upholstery front and rear floor mats are original rubber. All window rubbers have been changed as has front and rear heated glass gaskets. I can go on and on but it was a labor of love for my father. It could use a new dash pad and if I found one I would change it for you. It could use new running boards but they are functional just not perfect. Had one floor rust panel installed but not a rusty car at all as you can see from the floor pan pic. One small tear and passenger head rest. feel free to ask me anything else about this car. I have pages of receipts and what was completed to make this deserving of the special car it is. |

Five reasons to love, or hate, the culture of German cars
Thu, Mar 5 2015A few months back, we took a 500-foot view of the culture of American cars, dissecting prides and prejudices on our way to the conclusion that automotive allegiances can be simultaneously embraced and derided. We had so much fun with the narrative that we decided to do it again, this time taking a look at Germany and its world-renowned lineup of automakers, including the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen, among others. Join us below as we discuss the points and counterpoints that make or have made the German auto industry what it is today. And remember, Germany did pretty much invent the automobile, after all... The V12 Engine If America is known for the proliferation of the V8 engine, an argument could be made that Germany owns the V12. Yes, of course, other companies have created V12 engines – Ferrari, Jaguar and Lamborghini immediately come to mind – but the big 12-cylinder powerplants from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, in particular, have proven to be some of the most effortless, luxurious and downright over-built engines the world has ever seen. These days, having 12 cylinders is more a case of wretched excess than ever before, and yet, you can still stroll into your local BMW or Mercedes dealership and get a brand-new 760i, S600 or even an over-the-top G65 AMG, efficiency be damned. Best of all, since the majority of these German powerhouses depreciate as fast as an anchor sinks, nearly any auto enthusiast who dreams of a dozen cylinders can satisfy their carnal desires. Current Star: 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 View 28 Photos Diesel Engines Remember how we talked about those glorious V12 engines? Well, you can even get one from Audi that runs on diesel. If your compression-ignition fantasies err more on the side of fuel savings, that's no problem, either. Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen have got you covered, with engines starting as small as 800 cubic centimeters (Smart Fortwo). If you want something a little more practical, it's hard to argue with a VW Golf TDI, which will provide plenty of space for you and three of your best friends, plus a fair bit of luggage, all while returning 50-ish miles per gallon. For the purposes of this discussion, we'd rather focus on the asinine levels of torque provided by Germany's high-end diesel engines than the lower-end fuel sippers.
Production Volkswagen Taigun crossover caught in patent filing?
Wed, 01 May 2013Volkswagen brought an angular, bulldog-like small crossover concept called Taigun to the São Paulo motor show last year, claiming that it wanted to gauge interest in the design before making a decision about production. If a new report with alleged leaked patent images is to be believed, then, interest must have been pretty high.
China's Auto.Sohu.com has published this group of Taigun images, claiming that they have been sourced from the Chinese patent office and that the subcompact VW utility based on the Up! has been cleared for production.
If all of that is true, and if these images are representative of the final product, you'll see that designers haven't done much to alter the concept car's appearance. Comparing, shot for shot, with the images we have from Brazil, we see that even small details like roof rack-mounted lights and exhaust tips integrated in the rear fascia have been carried over. Take a closer look for yourself in the attached galleries.
VW promises 7-seat CUV for America in 2016
Mon, 13 Jan 2014On the eve of the Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen chief executive Martin Winterkorn has confirmed the imminent arrival of a new crossover. The model, previewed at the same show last year by the CrossBlue concept pictured here, will be unique to the North American market when it arrives here in 2016. The new three-row, seven-seat crossover is part of an ambitious expansion plan on the part of Volkswagen and Audi in North America, where the two brands aim to sell a million vehicles by 2018.
That's a mighty big increase over the 600,000 vehicles which the Volkswagen Group sold here last year, but it's moving in the right direction: That number is already a 100-percent increase of what it sold here just five years ago. At that rate, VW should have little trouble meeting its goals, particularly with the arrival of the new crossover and the introduction of Golf production at its assembly plant in Puebla, Mexico.
