I bought this Super Beetle with the intent of making it a baja bug. It was in stock configuration when I bought it. Everything worked....everything! I started stripping it and after 3 years have lost interest. Other projects have come along and this is now in my way. I have everything to put it back to stock or you can continue the baja project. It has not been cut on. I have stripped most of it down to bare metal as seen in the pictures. The bodywork still needs to be finished in a few places. I'm not good with body work so it has been filled and lightly sanded in a couple of larger spots. The channels under the doors are needing attention as well as the lower portion of the passenger rear. The driver's side should have a new floor pan installed. So should the passenger rear floor. Also the driver's doors were missing the inner panels when I got it. The back ones are in place and are in very good condition. So is the rear seat set. They are black. Front seats are covered and probably for a good reason. I was going to replace them so never took a good look at them. Also there were no bumpers on this other than the little "T" bar bumpers.
The engine runs good. It does smoke upon starting after it has been sitting any length of time. There is an oil leak on the passenger side of it. It is coming from one of the push rod tubes. The previous owner put an Empi shifter in the car. It will jump out of reverse. He stated at time of sale he never adjusted the linkage. It was a daily driver for him but he parked it to restore it and never got beyond that. I drove it around the storage yard when I picked it up and due to limited space never got it to any speed beyond 2nd gear. I did shift into 3rd and 4th and theydidn't jump out and I felt no clutch slippage. I never put it on a suface street. Brakes work great including parkiing brake. All glass is good. The rear window has defrost in it and it worked when I bought it but I took the glass out when I got it home so wouldn't place a bet on it now.
I have some extra little things to go with it. A new Empi 4 tip exhaust, new rears shocks that came with my purchase, 2 new strut cartridges that also came with. A Haynes repair manual and a couple other little things that I would have to locate. Tires have decent tread but they are slightly chopped. I would only use them for rolling around. Not sure I would trust em on the road.
Any questions please contact me through ebay. I will answer as quickly as possible. I have a clear Michigan title but the car is in Marsielles, Illinois right about 4 miles off of Interstate 80. If you need additional pictures give me a day to get them....the car is 30 miles away from my residence. Thanks for looking.

Volkswagen shows off performance-ish Passat concept
Mon, 14 Jan 2013As part of its 2013 Detroit Auto Show debut package, Volkswagen has rolled out a sportier version of the Passat sedan, though it's strictly conceptual for now. A small dose of go-fast visuals have been added to the handsome Volkswagen, including 19-inch wheels, carbon-capped mirrors, an advanced front lighting system, LED taillamps and dual exhaust. Some carbon bits and upgraded leather are found inside the cabin, as well.
But the real performance chops come in the form of a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that sends 250 horsepower to the Passat's front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. That's a good boost in power over the 170 hp of the base 2.5-liter inline-five, but not quite as potent as the 3.6-liter VR6. A lowered sport suspension and revised electronic steering are also on hand, making things slightly more involving out on the road... we assume.
It's not quite the performance concept we were hoping for, but a more enthusiastic Passat isn't necessarily a bad thing. Scroll down for the press release.
Volkswagen Group names Paefgen head of classics program
Tue, 04 Oct 2011You may remember the name Franz-Josef Paefgen. Until recently, the German engineer and executive was head of both Bentley and Bugatti. Before that he was chief executive of Audi, after working for several years at Ford. He technically "retired" earlier this year, but like the cars he helped create, an executive like Paefgen could never really retire. So it should come as little surprise that the Volkswagen Group has named Dr. Paefgen head of its Classic program.
In his new capacity, Paefgen will oversee the historic automobile activities of the entire VW Group, including those of Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Lamborghini, and of course Bentley and Bugatti. It strikes us as a suitable semi-retirement for the man responsible in no small part for the Bugatti Veyron and Bentley Mulsanne, to name just two, and who was decorated in 2006 by the ACO as the "Spirit of Le Mans" for his contribution to endurance racing. Read the official announcement after the break.
Audi buys Ballard fuel cell patents for $80 million
Wed, Feb 11 2015While some auto companies (e.g., Toyota and Hyundai) are giving away some hydrogen fuel cell patents, others are paying a pretty penny to gain access to the H2 tech. Audi announced today that it has purchased a suite of fuel-cell patent from Ballard Power Systems. The deal between Volkswagen Group and the Canadian fuel cell pioneer is worth over $80 million US. Unsurprisingly, the value of Ballard's stock shot up about a dollar (to $2.61 as of this writing) on the announcement. VW and Ballard will also extend their development agreement, originally scheduled to end in 2017, to March 2019, and possibly another two years after that. Thus far, the deal – which revolves around the "design and manufacture of next-generation fuel cell stacks" for VW's H2 demonstration program – and Ballard says it is a leader in "critical areas of fuel cell product design – including the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), plate and stack components – along with certain testing and integration work." At the LA Auto Show last fall, VW showed off a Golf SportWagen and a Passat with a hydrogen hybrid HyMotion powertrain as well as a Audi A7 Sportback H-Tron Quattro. Audi buys fuel-cell patents from Ballard Power Systems Development agreement with Ballard extended until 2019 Audi's Head of Development Prof. Hackenberg: "The entire VW Group will use these patents." Ingolstadt/Burnaby, February 11, 2015 – AUDI AG has acquired a package of patents relating to fuel-cell technology from Ballard Power Systems Inc. In addition, the Volkswagen Group has extended its cooperation with the Canadian clean energy company until 2019. The purchase of these patents will provide new impetus for the development of fuel-cell drive systems at Audi, VW and the Volkswagen Group. As explained by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG and responsible for the steering of the development departments of all brands in the VW Group: "Audi is acquiring these strategically important patents for the entire group and will make them available to all the brands. In this way, we are securing crucial expertise that will provide new impetus for the further development of this technology." Ballard Power Systems Inc. is based in Burnaby, Canada, and is one of the world's leading companies in the technology of proton exchange membrane fuel cells.
