1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle Base 1.6l on 2040-cars
Lebanon, Pennsylvania, United States
1973 VW beetle, I have owned and driven this car everyday from 06/11 - 4/13 when the engine had a bearing issue and I removed it. This car really meant a lot to me and I have kept strict maintenance on it until 06/13. I really enjoyed this car while I was a student and traveling nurse assistant, now that I have a new job I just can't take the time to maintain this appropriately. I want to sell it to someone that will take care of it, I am going to be completely honest about it's condition. , please feel free to call me Noah Swift 717-273-1743 or e-mail at lebnoah@gmail.com.
----------------Pro's--------------- Minimal Rust Dash has no sun damage Both drive shafts replaced last year Totally replaced ignition switch and signal wiring in steering column Up to PA inspection standards on 5/13 No braking leaks or issues No issues with gas tank, rubber gas hose replaced recently (gas gauge float does not work sometimes) No stripped bolts on body or on trans-engine mount (transmission rubber boots intact, replaced last year) No electrical issues Shocks appear stock but I have had no issues with them. Four brand new Touring tires with professionally painted rim I put the transmission in myself in 2012, it was used, I bought it from a guy that was piecing a beetle in his shed for 600$. It does not slip, pop, or grind and the trans fluid is clear red with no burnt odor. I have crawled under it every summer and sanded off any rust, then painted with about 4 coats of Rustoleum. Besides under the battery, there is no floorboard rusting. I did this with the fenders as well. Left rear fender has some rust thru (photo) There are 2 stock seatbelts in the front with shoulder sttap, and I have installed 2 stock seatbelts in the rear. New Cards on doors and rear. The seats are used but reconditioned with 2 tears (photos) Headliner has no holes or sag, it is original. -------------Con's---------------- There is NO ENGINE, it does come with a new Sachs Clutch (photo) The steering shakes and should be restored, I am including a lot of the items needed for this (photo). If you are going to take the time to dissmantle the steering system this far I would recommend changing the steering box while you are up there, they cost about $100.00. Window rubber and body rubber between fenders needs replaced., Front and Rear window rubber is like new. Trunk and hood need re-aligned to open and shut correctly, all of the hardware is attached, it just needs reset. Minor dents and minor rust (photos) Speedometer cable is attached but nod placed into wheel.. speedometer does work. Rear Light is cracked and will need replaced. T-Bars (bumper bars) are not tightened down thoroughly, you will have to buy bolts from hardware store. The assembly or opening and closing heater-vent is not there, you will need to buy these assemblies, I was holding open the vent with twist ties all winter then removing them in spring. There is no radio, but it is ready to be connected to one and the speakers in both doors are new and do work. You will need to buy some flashing for e.j. the hood and the panel under the doors. The wipers work, I could never figure out how the wiper spray system works with the spare tire, but the assembly for this connection is there. There is a rubber seal in the engine compartment essential for proper engine use.. you will need to replace this rubber seal. --------------Included!!!!--------------- Brand new Sachs Clutch Set 1 year old Bosch Starter Electronic heater blower Spare Tire Two Rollers, Two tie rod ends, and new set of polyurethane replacement bushings. Two fan belts One condenser One acceleration cable New Battery 4 brand new Touring Tires with professionally painted rims and 4 dogdish hubcaps |

North American production of foreign marques to jump in 2014
Sun, 23 Dec 2012Wards Auto has released its North American Light Vehicle Production Forecast for 2014, and the report predicts foreign manufacturers will increase production on the continent some 3.9 percent by 2014. If accurate, that should see 123,000 additional cars, trucks and vans produced in North America, swelling the total number of units produced both by domestic and foreign manufacturers to 16.9 million light vehicles from a projected 15.6 million in 2013. Much of the increase can be attributed to the fact that Toyota intends to produce another car at its Blue Springs, MS plant as well as a new Lexus model at its Georgetown, KY facility in a year's time.
Likewise, Volkswagen intends to move production of a currently imported model to its plant in Puebla, Mexico. Daimler, Honda, Nissan and Mazda also plan to build additional models on North American soil for the first time. Around two-thirds of the new North American manufacturing will take place in Mexico, helping the country soak up a full 20 percent of the content's automotive production for the first time. You can head over to the Wards Auto site for the full report.
Volkswagen debuts MkVII-based diesel Golf GTD
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As Volkswagen prepares for the launch of the seventh-generation Golf, it continues to show off some of the car's different variants. With the standard Golf and the ultra-efficient BlueMotion Concept out of the way, now we're finally starting to see some of the sportier versions planned for the hatchback. Confirmed for a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen has now given us our first glimpse at the Golf GTD.
Just think of the GTD as a diesel version of the GTI with all the handling and styling upgrades, and then add a torquey engine to the equation. (We had the chance to sample the current GTD over the summer, so click here to read more.) To go with the new body style, VW also gave the GTD a new TDI engine consisting of a similar turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter inline-four layout but with an output of 184 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque - that's an increase of 14 hp and 22 lb-ft over the current GTD. That's a pretty good oomph, but the GTD won't be setting any acceleration records with VW quoting a 0-62 mile per hour time of 7.5 seconds thanks to the car's 3,036-pound curb weight.
The styling of the MkVII Golf lends itself quite well to the more aggressive body kit found on the GTD (and likely matching the GTI). The new front fascia and blacked-out grille give the GTD a sporty look up front, while 17-inch sport wheels, rocker panel extensions and smoked LED taillights finish off the visual changes. The GTD will only be offered in three exterior colors: Tornado Red, Black and Pure White. As expected, the interior gets the plaid seat inserts and flat-bottomed sport steering wheel, but the car also gets stainless steel pedals, a black headliner, ambient cabin lighting and a specific gauge cluster readout.
Which will Dieselgate hurt more, Volkswagen or US diesels?
Tue, Sep 22 2015The most damning response to the news Volkswagen skirted emissions regulations for its diesel models may have actually come from the Los Angeles Times. On Saturday, the Times published an editorial titled "Did Volkswagen cheat?" The answer was undoubtedly yes. When you can't drive down Santa Monica Boulevard without seeing an average of one VW TDI per block, the following words are pretty striking: "... Americans should be outraged at the company's cynical and deliberate efforts to violate one of this country's most important environmental laws." VW has successfully cultivated a strong, environmentally conscious reputation for its TDI Clean Diesel technology, especially in states where emissions are strictly controlled. A statement like that is like blood all over the opinion section of the Sunday paper. The effect on VW's business, even Germany's financial health, was already felt Monday when the company's shares plummeted 23 percent in morning trading. The statement on Sunday from VW CEO Dr. Martin Winterkorn says "trust" three times. That probably wasn't enough in nine sentences. Writers over the weekend have compared VW's crisis to one at General Motors 30 years ago, when it was the largest seller of diesel-powered passenger cars until warranty claims over an inadequate design and ill-informed technicians effectively pulled the plug on the technology at GM. In a sense, VW is in the same boat as GM because it has fired a huge blow into its own reputation and that of diesels in passenger cars. And just as automakers like Jaguar Land Rover, BMW and, ironically, GM, were getting comfortable with it again in the US. VW of America was already knee-deep in its other problems this year. Its core Jetta and Passat models are aging and it needs to wait more than a year for competitive SUVs that American buyers want. The TDIs were the only continuous bright spot in the line and on the sales charts. Even as fuel prices fell and buyers shunned hybrids, VW managed to succeed with diesels and show that Americans actually care about and accept the technology again. Fervent TDI supporters might actually lobby for that maximum $18 billion fine to VW. I've personally convinced a number of people to look at a TDI instead of a hybrid. Perhaps not so much for stop-and-go traffic, but I know buyers who liked the idea that a TDI drove like a normal car and wasn't packed with batteries.
