1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle

Autostick

Hello in eBay land..  I don’t know why I love this little car so much.. maybe writing an ad will help me to figure it out.

I have always had a bug in my life.  From the time I was 16..  My first car was a ’74..  Anyway, I have owned them and driven them and used them for 30 years now.  Last year I bought a federalized Mexican bug made in 2003 with almost no miles!  I was disappointed to be honest.  Cheap and poorly made.

Then I happened across this car.  It’s a 1972 Super Beetle with an Autostick transmission.  I had driven one in the past but was close minded to the transmission.  When I was younger, I thought it was goofy.  I also thought only of performance.  Economy and sensibility was not in my diction.  Today, I have a different attitude.  I like the odd, the overlooked..  The over engineered.  That is exactly what this little beetle is.  Overdone, overlooked, over-engineered and today..  Really cool because of it.

This car helped to change my mind about the quality of real German quality and craftsmanship.  The car is just simply well made.  This car specifically, drives like a dream.  It is tight, and dependable.  It is actually fun and easy to drive.  I use mainly 2 gears, but there is a low too it you need it.  So 3 forward gears plus reverse.  No clutch pedal.  Just gas and brakes.  If you set your hand on the shifter the car goes into a neutral setting and once you remove your hand it’s back in gear..

It is really a pleasure to drive..  Super easy and fun.  The motor runs awesome, everything works too.

The seats were redone and are actually really cool and Recaro like.  They were surely very expensive and the material is high grade.  They are a bit sporty for the car, but they sure are nice.

The paint is fair..  Not great, but not horrid either.  Lots of it is still original with touch ups over the years.  It’s pretty expensive to paint a car correctly these days, so I’m not sure it’s needed.  I would just enjoy the car as it is and enjoy the quirk of it.  Maaco is always an option, but I have never been impressed with the quality.

So, to sum this up..  This is a nice RUST FREE excellent running little bug that has the rare Autostick transmission.  It is ready to use.  It needs nothing mechanically to be enjoyed.  Cosmetically, it’s nice but not a show piece.

I am setting the reserve very low and I know the Beetle will sell the first go around as long as we all play by these rules.

#1.  Only bid if you have intentions to buy.

#2. Ask any and all questions before bidding.

#3. Please contact me BEFORE BIDDING if you have zero or negative feedback.

#4. This is an AS-IS sale.  I have done my best to describe it exactly as I see it but it has no warranties or guarantees except a clean and clear legal title after payment.

#5. I will not accept Pay-Pal for the balance payment of the VW.  Pay-Pal is for the deposit only, the balance must be paid by certified check or wire.  Legitimate and legal buyers only please.

Just be real and genuine and I will make sure that the winning bidder is happy with his or her purchase.  I have 100% positive feedback and I plan on keeping that.  Also, I will end the sale for the right offer so don’t wait till the last second and worry about missing out.  Just call me and we will work out a fair price..

VW could look outside its own ranks for next CEO

Fri, Feb 27 2015

Companies have two options when coming up with succession plans – hire within, or go outside its ranks. Either choice comes with advantages and disadvantages, to be sure. Hiring within means generally getting someone familiar with the company and its culture and traditions, while going outside is ideal if you're looking to shake things up and bring in fresh ideas. It's unclear which avenue the Volkswagen Group will go down when it comes time to replace its head man, Herr Professor Doctor Doctor Herr Martin Winterkorn, but he isn't ruling out a trip outside of Wolfsburg. Winterkorn has already given the reins of the VW brand to former BMW board member Herbert Diess, while Andreas Renschler, a former Daimler board member, is heading up VW's truck group. Now, Winterkorn has made some statements to a German weekly that indicate the most important thing about his successor isn't necessarily his (or her, though no women appear to be on the short-list) previous employer, Motoring.com.au is reporting, so much as his qualities as a leader and an engineering background. "A Volkswagen boss has to have a big affinity to our products. He needs to be close to customers and he needs to have a relationship with dealers," Winterkorn told Stern. "Like always, it depends on the personality and it also helps if the candidate is an engineer." Motoring throws out a couple of potential candidates from within, including Porsche boss Mathias Muller, Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler and engineering guru Ulrich Hackenberg, in addition to both Diess and Renschler. And while each candidate has a lot of potential, the only thing that's guaranteed right now is what Winterkorn has already said: "The decision about who will succeed me is not an easy one for the supervisory board."

BMW, Ferrari, VW cars use tungsten mined by terrorists

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

Bloomberg Markets is reporting that BMW, Volkswagen and Ferrari have been using tungsten ore sourced from Columbia's FARC rebel terrorists. The extensive story focuses on Columbia's illegal mining trade and calls into question the provenance of the rare ore that is used not only in crankshaft parts production, but is also found in the world's computing and telecommunications industry for use in screens.
The ore is mined by the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, or Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army), and exported to Pennsylvania, where it is refined. The refined ore is then sent over to Austria, where a company called Plansee turns it into a finished product. Now, it's important to note that we aren't talking about the world's supply of tungsten here. In 2012, Plansee's American refinery purchased 93.2 metric tons of tungsten, valued at $1.8 million. That's peanuts, with the entire Colombian tungsten mining industry producing just one percent of the world's supplies.
That doesn't make indirectly supporting FARC any more acceptable, though. BMW, VW and Ferrari are all committed to not accepting mineral supplies from the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is also in the grips of a guerrilla insurrection funded, in part, by illegal mining. The same commitment would figure to extend to Colombian mining, but as BMW points out, it's difficult for a multi-national manufacturer to know where every item in its supply chain comes from. A company spokesperson says as much, telling Bloomberg, "These few grams out of the billions of tons of raw materials passing through the BMW supply chain are of no practical relevance."
