1972 Super Beetle Baja Bug on 2040-cars
Cincinnati, Ohio, United States
Up for sale is my 1972 Super Beetle Baja Bug. I bought this for my stepdaughter who was into the off-road thing a few years ago, but not she has no interest in the Baja style. I do not have the time to complete this car although it wouldn't take much effort. I have had vw's since I was a teenager and this is one of the cleanest bugs for the year I have ever seen. This car came out of Oregon as I recall and I bought it from a guy in Michigan. The car has never sat outside and is virtually rust free. You can see where someone did bodywork just behind the doors but that is it. The floor pans in this car are absolutely solid. There is no carpet in the car so I was able to see everything when I went to look at it. I looked underneath and was amazed that there was no rust. This car would take minimal bodywork to have ready for paint. The Baja fenders were made out of the original steel fenders and whoever did them did a really nice job on shaping them. The previous owner said he had the engine gone through and punched but I'm not sure what cc it is. I'm guessing 1641 or so. I go it running but the carb (2bbl Holley) needs to be rebuilt. It has a flat spot off idle. It leaks oil when it sits but probably just needs a gasket that has dried out. It sounds good and has plenty of power once you get it moving. The car needs the brakes finished including lines I believe. The car has new BF Goodrich tires and new "Wagon Wheel" style wheels. I can send pictures of the inside to anyone interested. I will also try to add some more pics of everything when I get a chance. I apologize for not knowing more details on the car but I have not done anything more than tune it up and get it running. I travel extensively so not much time for working on cars. This is a chance for someone to own a very nice older bug that is as solid as you will find. It has been stored inside it's entire life including the time in which I have owned it. I will finish the car and run another auction if it doesn't sell in this auction. Good Luck & thanks for looking. |

VW recalls 25k Jettas over low-beam headlight issue
Wed, Dec 31 2014Volkswagen has discovered an issue with the headlamps on its latest Jetta and is issuing a recall notice in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to correct the issue. The problem revolves around the headlight control module, which has been found in certain instances to switch off the low-beam headlights when the high beams are turned on. Needless to say, that could result in insufficient illumination in the dark, so VW is moving to update the module's software. The issue only affects the new 2015 Jetta – specifically those manufactured between July 11, 2014 (which just happens to be this writer's birthday, thank you very much) and November 13, 2014. All in all, the Volkswagen Group of America estimates that encompasses 25,007 units in the United States, the owners of which can expect to hear from their dealers in the new year. RECALL Subject : Insufficient Headlight Output Report Receipt Date: DEC 15, 2014 NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V790000 Component(s): EXTERIOR LIGHTING Potential Number of Units Affected: 25,007 All Products Associated with this Recall close VOLKSWAGEN JETTA 2015 Manufacturer: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. SUMMARY: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2015 Jetta vehicles manufactured July 11, 2014, to November 13, 2014. Due to incorrect software within the headlight control module, the low beam headlights may turn off when high beam lights are turned on. As a result, the light output from the headlights may be insufficient. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108. "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." CONSEQUENCE: Insufficient headlight output may increase the risk of a crash. REMEDY: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will update the headlight control module software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in January 2015. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 57F6. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Anti-UAW VW workers move to form own union
Sat, 30 Aug 2014The struggle over unionization at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, continues to get more complicated. There's now a second union fighting to organize at the plant; although this one is staunchly against the actions of the United Auto Workers. At the same time, the UAW is still signing up voluntary members to its recently created Local 42 at the facility and is reportedly near having a majority of the hourly employees on its side.
The new, anti-UAW union campaign is being spearheaded by employee Mike Burton, according to Reuters, and he calls his group the American Council of Employees. He claims to already have 108 signatures in support of his organization. Burton believes that the UAW is harmful to businesses, and his goal is to force another vote to determine a preferred union among workers.
The UAW was initially defeated (712 to 626) when it attempted a union vote at the Tennessee plant in February. However, UAW secretary-treasurer Gary Casteel told Reuters that Local 42 has already signed up over 700 members. If it can reach a majority of the roughly 1,500 employees, the group hopes VW might consider recognizing it as the factory's union.
Volkswagen to add 50k jobs by 2018
Thu, 04 Apr 2013Volkswagen still has its eyes set on becoming the top global automaker by 2018, and to get there, it's apparently going to need more boots on the ground. Automotive News Europe is reporting that VW is looking to increase its staff by 50,000 over the next five years - an increase of nine percent - which does not include an increase in its US dealer network.
According to the report, a majority of the growth will come from China where the automaker is also looking to double its production capacity in the same time frame. The Volkswagen Group is already expected to rival General Motors for the top sales spot in China this year, and such a rapid expansion in the region could make a good springboard for sales increases in other countries.
