1971 Volkswagen Beetle Florida Car 59,000 Original Miles Nice & Clean! on 2040-cars
Ankeny, Iowa, United States
This car is solid. I bought it in Pensacola Florida in August of 1997. It was a one owner car with 27,000 original miles. It looked like a new car. It had the original tires and wheels on it, so i put some new Kelley tires and American Racing rims on it for the 1100 mile drive home. It now has just under 60,000 original miles after owning for 17 years. The car is in great shape and solid. The heater works great since it has never been rusted out underneath. When you shut the doors, you can tell it's solid. The interior was perfect when I bought it, but after driving it a few years, the sun had baked the vinyl seats causing them to rip. I had the seats re-upholstered in 2005 with a velour-like fabric which look way better than the original tan vinyl in my opinion. After graduating from college in 99, i had a fresh coat of paint put on, but the original was really good. the first picture is from 97 after i brought the car home to give you an idea of what it looked like before i had it painted. It does have a couple small door dings in the back fender and small rock chips on the hood. Back fenders have small paint chips where the gravel guards would go. It runs great and has a new Kenwood cd player installed under the dash last year. The original radio is still in place and works, but is disconnected. It does leak oil and has since the day i bought it. i have the original owner's manual and paperwork from the original purchase. Everyone probably says this, but there probably aren't too many vw's like this that haven't been stripped down and fully restored. I'm getting rid of it because I just don't drive it enough anymore with two small kids. I would like to see someone buy it who can take care of it and drive it.
Shipping/pickup is up to you. I'll work with you on shipping and if you're within 200 miles of Ankeny, IA we can probably work out a meeting place.

VW announces recall of 26,000 2014 models with 1.8T engines
Tue, 22 Apr 2014Volkswagen has followed up on a stop-sale order from earlier this month, announcing a voluntarily recall of 26,400 vehicles that are powered by the brand's 1.8-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The new mill replaced the despised 2.5-liter five-cylinder in the Jetta, Passat, Beetle and Beetle Convertible last year. Weirdly, though, of the 26,452 units covered in the recall, only 1,655 are customer vehicles.
According to VW, the affected models were built between February 1 and April 6 of this year, and feature bad O-ring seals in the transmission oil cooler. Apparently, the faulty O-rings could cause a fluid leak, as they won't seal between the oil cooler and transmission. VW is blaming a material change from a supplier for the problem.
There have been no fires, injuries, accidents or fatalities relating to this issue, which VW will be fixing free of charge. Customers will need to report to dealers to have the O-rings replaced.
US-spec 2015 Volkswagen Golf and GTI to finally debut in New York
Tue, 12 Mar 2013The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf is hardly new to us. In fact, we've already driven it. And elsewhere in the world, the new Golf is already winning awards. Even so, we still have yet to see the US-spec version of the car, though that won't be the case much longer. As part of the New York Auto Show festivities later this month, Volkswagen will finally show off the 2015 Golf models destined for our shores.
Three different versions of the Golf will debut under the lights of New York City's Javits Center: the turbocharged TSI, oil-sipping TDI and hotter GTI. The first model in that list uses Volkswagen's new 1.8-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, replacing the outgoing 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline five-cylinder. The latter two models use familiar engines: the 2.0-liter TDI diesel and 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, respectively.
Even though the new Golf officially debuts later this month, it won't go on sale in the US until the first quarter of 2014. We'll be waiting patiently.
Help a couple drive their 1984 Vanagon around the world
Mon, 22 Apr 2013Meet Brad, Sheena and Nacho
Driving through China is a pricey proposition. The couple will need to pony up a staggering $19,514 just to cover the fees.
Brad and Sheena Van Orden are in the midst of a life-defining campaign to travel around the world, and they're doing it in a 1984 Volkswagen Vanagon custom built for the occasion. The past 15 months have seen the couple quit their jobs with Gore-Tex and drive from Arizona to the very southern tip of Argentina after spending a full two years saving and preparing for the trek. Now they're in southern Asia gearing up for the next leg of their journey.
