1971 Volkswagen Beetle Florida Car 59,000 Original Miles Nice & Clean! on 2040-cars
Ankeny, Iowa, United States
This car is solid. I bought it in Pensacola Florida in August of 1997. It was a one owner car with 27,000 original miles. It looked like a new car. It had the original tires and wheels on it, so i put some new Kelley tires and American Racing rims on it for the 1100 mile drive home. It now has just under 60,000 original miles after owning for 17 years. The car is in great shape and solid. The heater works great since it has never been rusted out underneath. When you shut the doors, you can tell it's solid. The interior was perfect when I bought it, but after driving it a few years, the sun had baked the vinyl seats causing them to rip. I had the seats re-upholstered in 2005 with a velour-like fabric which look way better than the original tan vinyl in my opinion. After graduating from college in 99, i had a fresh coat of paint put on, but the original was really good. the first picture is from 97 after i brought the car home to give you an idea of what it looked like before i had it painted. It does have a couple small door dings in the back fender and small rock chips on the hood. Back fenders have small paint chips where the gravel guards would go. It runs great and has a new Kenwood cd player installed under the dash last year. The original radio is still in place and works, but is disconnected. It does leak oil and has since the day i bought it. i have the original owner's manual and paperwork from the original purchase. Everyone probably says this, but there probably aren't too many vw's like this that haven't been stripped down and fully restored. I'm getting rid of it because I just don't drive it enough anymore with two small kids. I would like to see someone buy it who can take care of it and drive it.
Shipping/pickup is up to you. I'll work with you on shipping and if you're within 200 miles of Ankeny, IA we can probably work out a meeting place.

TRANSLOGIC 150: Volkswagen XL1
Mon, Feb 24 2014How do you build the world's most fuel-efficient production car? Start with the world's most aerodynamic design. The Volkswagen XL1 is capable of 261 miles per gallon thanks to its sleek shape and ultra efficient plug-in diesel hybrid powertrain. The downside is that only 250 will be made and none will be sold stateside. That didn't stop us from taking our turn behind the wheel of this truly revolutionary ride.
Volkswagen officially grants access to UAW in Tennessee
Tue, Dec 9 2014An audit at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN has revealed that at least 45 percent of the facility's workers support unionization, leading the German company to grant access rights to the United Auto Workers. This is a tremendous step in the UAW's long-running and at times contentious pursuit of the workforce at Chattanooga. With this latest move, "local leadership is ready to move forward with additional conversations with the company," the union said in a statement obtained by The Detroit News. "As a starting point, UAW Local 42 will take advantage of the company's offer to establish bi-weekly meetings with Volkswagen Human Resources and the Volkswagen Chattanooga Executive Committee." The News reports that UAW Secretary-Treasurer Gary Casteel, shown above speaking at the Chattanooga plant last summer, claimed these meetings "will remind Human Resources and the Chattanooga Executive Committee of the mutually agreed-upon commitments that were made by Volkswagen and the UAW last spring in Germany. Among those commitments: Volkswagen will recognize the UAW as the representative of our members. We believe Volkswagen made this commitment in good faith and we believe the company will honor this commitment." It's important to note that despite Casteel's remarks, this is not a collective-bargaining agreement, Harley Shaiken, a labor professor at University of California, Berkeley, told The News. "But it is a step in the direction of recognition, which ultimately could lead to collective bargaining. This is not the end point," Shaiken said. "We don't know what's next. We're in unchartered territory."
Recharge Wrap-up: AutoNation CEO calls anti-Tesla laws unnecessary, Common Pence donates subway money
Thu, Nov 13 2014Volkswagen has presented a list of near-term technologies to improve fuel economy and decrease emissions. The list includes an addition to a coasting function in its stop-start system, a 10-speed DSG transmission and a more power-dense four-cylinder TDI engine. Volkswagen aims to be the world's most sustainable automaker by 2018 through electric mobility, improved design and increased environmental performance from internal combustion vehicles. Volkswagen also announced other technologies for increased interactivity and connectivity in its vehicles. Read more at Green Car Congress. Commence Pence is a system that allows subway riders in London to donate their unused transit money to charity. People visiting the city often load up enough on their subway card (called Oyster Card) to get them through their trip and end up with unused funds leftover. Zander Whitehurst, a British designer, has created a device that can use the card's RFID to accept leftover funds, which then get diverted to charity rather than reverting back to the agency in charge of running the subway fare system. See the video below or read more at Wired. Mike Jackson, CEO of AutoNation has called Michigan's efforts to ban Tesla's direct sales in the state "unnecessary protectionism." The statement comes as a bit of a surprise, as it dissents from the majority of auto dealers who support a franchise model, as well as laws that forbid automakers selling directly to the consumer. "If Elon Musk wants to make a mistake and go with an inefficient distribution system, that's his right as an American," says Jackson, showing he feels he has little to fear from the electric automaker. Jackson has more to say on the matter, which you can read over at Green Car Reports. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
