This car is solid. I bought it in Pensacola Florida in August of 1997. It was a one owner car with 27,000 original miles. It looked like a new car. It had the original tires and wheels on it, so i put some new Kelley tires and American Racing rims on it for the 1100 mile drive home. It now has just under 60,000 original miles after owning for 17 years. The car is in great shape and solid. The heater works great since it has never been rusted out underneath. When you shut the doors, you can tell it's solid. The interior was perfect when I bought it, but after driving it a few years, the sun had baked the vinyl seats causing them to rip. I had the seats re-upholstered in 2005 with a velour-like fabric which look way better than the original tan vinyl in my opinion. After graduating from college in 99, i had a fresh coat of paint put on, but the original was really good. the first picture is from 97 after i brought the car home to give you an idea of what it looked like before i had it painted. It does have a couple small door dings in the back fender and small rock chips on the hood. Back fenders have small paint chips where the gravel guards would go. It runs great and has a new Kenwood cd player installed under the dash last year. The original radio is still in place and works, but is disconnected. It does leak oil and has since the day i bought it. i have the original owner's manual and paperwork from the original purchase. Everyone probably says this, but there probably aren't too many vw's like this that haven't been stripped down and fully restored. I'm getting rid of it because I just don't drive it enough anymore with two small kids. I would like to see someone buy it who can take care of it and drive it. Shipping/pickup is up to you. I'll work with you on shipping and if you're within 200 miles of Ankeny, IA we can probably work out a meeting place. $500 deposit within 48 hours via Paypal. Full payment within 7 days. Let me know if you have any questions. thanks Derek

Volkswagen Group, BMW Z4 top Total Value Awards by Strategic Vision

Tue, 11 Dec 2012

It was just nine months ago that Strategic Vision announced its 2011 Total Value Awards, but you don't have to wait until next year for the 2012 awards. The Volkswagen Group keeps its lead as the number one brand, with seven products taking top category spots: Golf, Jetta Wagon, CC, Eos and Audi A3 Wagon, Q5 and Q7. Strategic Vision says "true innovation" - "rich and impactful, intuitive, motivational, in-depth and is able to trigger description by the user in great specificity" - is the open secret of the brands with the strongest showings. Results are culled from 77,153 owners covering more than 350 new cars bought between September of 2011 and 2012 ranked in the Total Value Index (TVI).
Other notable winners are Hyundai-Kia following VW in the brand category and having the Hyundai Elantra and Kia Sorento among category winners, the BMW Z4 taking the premium roadster category and the highest overall score of any vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt continuing to gather silverware in the Special Category, nabbing the second-highest score of all and representative of "nearly perfect innovation," and Chrysler and Dodge being most improved.
Check out the press release below for your day's dose of jargon and all the winners.

Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Mercedes also under diesel emissions scrutiny

Sat, Oct 10 2015

The controversy over Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal isn't limited to the US. In Europe, where diesel engines are far more popular, the issue is shining a harsh light on the NEDC emissions test. As already known, the evaluation does a poor job of reflecting real-world production of NOx, and it appears a significant number of automakers are affected. The Guardian in the UK has been reporting on real-world test results from a company called Emissions Analytics. After the latest round of checks, vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Mazda and Mitsubishi were found to generate far more NOx than they should. The newspaper also published similar results for Renault, Nissan, Hyundai, Fiat, Volvo, Jeep, Citroen, VW, and Audi. On average, the figures are about four times over the limit of producing the pollutant. Unlike VW and its defeat device, these automakers aren't actually breaking the rules. The vehicles perform up to the NEDC lab test for emissions, but those results simply aren't translated to the street. "The VW issue in the US was purely the trigger which threw light on a slightly different problem in the EU - widespread legal over-emissions," Nick Molden from Emissions Analytics said to The Guardian. A big fight to decide the future of this issue appears to be on the horizon. Automakers claim that they can't meet the next round of tightening emissions regulations and are asking for compromises. Although, spokespeople for Mercedes and Honda told The Guardian that the brands would be in favor of the stricter rules. Meanwhile, some European governments began backtracking their support of diesels well before this scandal came to light. The added scrutiny certain hasn't helped the future of the oil-burner.
