FOR SALE

1971 RAG TOP FULLY ELECTRIC CONVERSION BEETLE

WITH AN ON BOARD GENERATOR AND A CHARGER.

There are a total of 10 batteries in the rear of the car that power a 120v electric motor that is installed where the factory engine once was.

The conversion alone for this was over $4600 new.

The previous owner that built the conversion installed an electric start generator in the trunk area that can power the battery charger as the car is being driven.

This is a very solid car with nice floors!

It is not your typical rust bucket!

Some of the batteries will need replaced due to a few dead cells which drains the system more than usual.

These should be replaced to achieve the desired charge and range it was built for!

The previous owner said that right now it will only do 10 miles before a charge is needed do to the batteries needing replaced.

You will have to test each one to see which ones need replaced.

There is no clutch to worry with but it has a 4 speed transmission and shifts great!

Just hit the pedal and your off!

On a full charge with new battery's it should travel up to 30 miles!

All and all its a great electric conversion vehicle that only need a few new batteries and minor TLC.

the possibilities are endless!

Put a solar panel on the roof and give it even more charge!

The previous owner pulled it behind his RV so it also comes with a tow bar to do so.

If you need to travel a few miles to work each day it would really pay off knowing that you wont be wasting money on fuel!

The roof rack is not for sale with the vehicle and will be removed before the sale ends.

we are selling this as a running and driving light project vehicle.

Please do your research on electric conversion before you buy!

This will make someone very happy!

Please keep in mind that this is an older vehicle and it is not new. You can expect normal wear and tear such as stone chips, dings, dents, fading, light surface rust, dirt, and anything else that come with a 42 year old vehicle.

If VW defaults on loans it may sell Bentley or Lamborghini

Mon, Dec 7 2015

If something goes catastrophically wrong with Volkswagen Group's recent $21 billion loan, brands like Bentley or Lamborghini could hit the auction block. According to two insiders to Reuters, the beleaguered German automaker agrees with its creditors to sell assets if the company somehow can't pay back the debt in a year. One of these anonymous people claimed the company hasn't yet deliberated over what to sell. However, the sources were willing to speculate that the power engineering portion of Man could be among the first to go. "Volkswagen may also consider divesting luxury car brands Bentley and Lamborghini or motor bike brand Ducati, although these units don't really move the needle," an insider said to Reuters. VW Group negotiated with the banks earlier this week to get the massive loan. The cash is necessary as a buffer in case the automaker doesn't have enough money on hand to repair vehicles or settle upcoming fines. VW would reportedly issue bonds in the spring to begin paying the debt. The company's bills will start racking up quickly in the new year. German authorities mandate a recall there in early 2016, and repair campaigns in the US for the 2.0- and 3.0-liter diesel engines are inevitable. There are also hundreds of class-action lawsuits to settle. The company needs to resolve its CO2 emissions scandal in Europe, too. In response to these financial threats, VW management created a cost-cutting plan to slash the research and development budget by $1.1 billion next year.

Fully Charged rolls into season 3 with VW XL1 and electric Land Rover

Sat, Jan 18 2014

It's been some time since last we visited with British actor and electric car proponent Robert Llewellyn and his web-based video series, Fully Charged. The show, now sponsored by Ecotricity, has started rolling out its third season and now has available two episodes featuring a pair of truly unique – and diametrically opposed – vehicles. The first installment starts with some interesting numbers involving the host's Nissan Leaf and its energy consumption over the past 36,000 miles, but soon moves on to the ultra-aero, ultra-expensive Volkswagen XL1. Now, if you've already seen the footage from our own XL1 first drive review, there's not a lot new here except, perhaps, more enthusiasm and a better listen of the two-cylinder diesel kicking in. Still, it's a great reminder of a truly unique vehicle and we enjoyed the segment. The second episode features an electrified Land Rover Defender 110. This is a vehicle you'd more likely see on an African safari than at the local mall. It's not a home-built conversion either, but rather, something the company has put together "for the boffins to create the ideas and see if they work." Boasting a 50-mile range, it's certainly something we like to take on an off-road adventure. Llewellyn is given the chance to do just that, and though the course is somewhat milder than what we might attempt, it does feature a stretch of river and some rough, rutted tracks. You can watch both episodes by scrolling below let us know which vehicle you'd prefer in the comments. This writer is going with the four-wheel-drive. This content is hosted by a third party. Volkswagen throws a Polo-palooza with four new or upgraded models

Wed, 05 Mar 2014

Volkswagen unveiled a parade of new and upgraded Polo models at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, including the Polo TSI BlueMotion, Polo TDI BlueMotion, Polo BlueGT and CrossPolo (pictured above). While they will likely never make an appearance this side of the pond, it is fun to see what European subcompact drivers will be driving later this year.
The new BlueMotion models represent the most efficient petrol and diesel options in their class, according to VW. The BlueMotion TDI offers just 73 horsepower from its diesel engine but gives the equivalent of 76 miles per gallon (US) in the EU test. The BlueMotion TSI brings a little more power with its 88-hp petrol engine and has a combined rating of 57 mpg (US) in the EU cycle.
The Polo BlueGT provides a balance of performance and economy, and for the 2014 model, it gains a 9-horsepower boost to its 1.4-liter turbocharged to give drivers 147 hp at the press of the accelerator. This year's car also has an optional Sport Select suspension with electronically controlled dampers to improve handling a bit. It's still fitted with active cylinder management to use as little gas as possible when cruising.
