This is my 1971 Convertible VW Volkswagen Beetle bug. I bought this is in 1995, drove during the summers, I've actually not driven if very much just around town and most likely never put more then a 1,000 miles on it the whole time I've owned it.

This is what do know for sure about this car------

Put a new top on in about 1996, I believe it has the wooden part, and a guy came to the house and hand sewn it in on. Needs cleaning, a few loose edges, but overall in good condition with no splits or tears. Folds back good.

Got it out this spring and it had no brakes at all, and every year I've gotten it out to drive it has always started up, this year I ran the battery down trying to start and never got a jump. I believe this spark plugs need to be changed.

I had a potential buyer come this spring and come find out the frame under around the tire is rusting out, and he told me the passenger window is starting bow out because the frame is starting torque. (last images)  There may be more areas of frame damage but I can not get under to see----So that is why I'm selling this for a parts or restoration ONLY and this is a "AS IS" sale!!!

Last time I drove it all the lights worked except the interior and dash board lights did not work.

Ran good and Shift well.

2 summers ago, paid $800.00 to have some work down and all I can remember is having balls joints put on,-- the car would shimmy between speeds of 35-50, but after all the work was done it no longer shimmered.

A mouse chewed through the passenger seat.

rust on the bumpers/headlight/muffler chrome, some pitting in the hubcaps, some bubble in the paint the worst area being near the corners of front trunk, 2 recent dings in the back passenger wheel area (thank you daughter) and some scratches and cracks in the paint, but overall the body looks pretty good.

Comes with all the extra items you see pictured. The extra hubcaps do have some dents, most of the items appear to be used.

Has a jack and spare tire, came with the car when I bought it I do not know if original.

Missing one exterior chrome trim piece

A mouse chewed a hole through the glove box.

Missing the glass mirror pair of a side mirror, the frame for mirror is there just the glass mirror missing.

I have a Operation/Owner's Manual that came with car, it got wet and some of the pages are stuck together.

This is a great restoration project or used for part tons of great original VW parts. BUT again Selling "AS IS", I've given you all the information that I know, I know nothing about cars so please if you have any question be sure to ask. Thanks

If you would like to look before bidding, I'm Located In Adrian, MI., about half way between Detroit MI. and Toledo OH.

Audi rumored to buy Alfa Romeo, officials deny it

Thu, 28 Mar 2013

For more than two years, Volkswagen has been making public statements about its willingness to buy Alfa Romeo and quadruple the Italian brand's sales, and for just as long, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has replied with some version of "Mr. Piëch, drop it." According to a report in Ward's Auto, all that jousting might be over: it claims that sources close to both Marchionne and Audi CEO Rupert Stadler admit that the two are in talks for Audi to buy not just Alfa Romeo, but a production plant in Italy. In fact, a final deal could possibly include partsmaker Magnetti Marelli.
Against that backdrop, a report by German news weekly Stern quotes a Fiat spokesmen as saying it doesn't comment on rumors and an Audi rep has said flatly that "There is no substance in the news." If a sale is being arranged, the timing would seem to point to how eager Fiat is to raise cash to complete its major initiatives. Even though Alfa Romeo continues to delay its return to the US, it just showed off the production version of the 4C at the Geneva Motor Show (shown above) and said that preferred Fiat dealerships here would get them. Then there's Alfa's recently concluded deal with Mazda to develop a roadster based on the next generation MX-5 Miata - a deal that would seem to help both the Italian and Japanese brands.
The monetary issues are troublesome, though. Fiat is taking a beating in the European market and its weak-kneed balance sheet is delaying gotta-have-it products like the Jeep Cherokee. Fiat has been talking to banks about getting money to buy the rest of Chrysler and those financial institutions have also raised issues about debt and cash reserves, and the nasty game of chess Fiat is playing with the United Auto Workers (and now the court system about the portion of Chrysler it doesn't own) could end up blowing another hole in Marchionne's plans. It is possible that this could finally have convinced Fiat to at least see how serious Audi's parent company, Volkswagen, is about buying Alfa Romeo. Or it could be just another rumor.

Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.

VW builds 250,000th Passat in Chattanooga in just two years

Sun, 26 May 2013

It hasn't been without incident or union organizing drive, but the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, TN has built its 250,000 Passat in just a little over two years. The Night Blue Passat TDI with black leather has come just two years and five weeks after the first customer car came off the line on April 18, 2011.
In the last year the plant operated at the 150,000-unit capacity that it was intended for, but the downturn in Passat sales and subsequent worker layoffs mean it will be a challenge to repeat the feat. The plant does have the world's largest solar park, though, and you can't take that away from them.
You'll find the official hand-clapping in the press release below.
