1968 VW BEETLE-PROJECT For those that have never bid on one of my auctions, I want you to know I don’t try to hold anything back and try to tell everything I know about the item I’m auctioning off. If you have any questions I encourage you to ask them prior to bidding-this includes extra pictures, I want my bidders to feel comfortable with their bid-my feedback is 100% and I am proud of it, see feedback left for me. I try to put plenty of pictures of all the details for you to view and always have more for the asking. I have bid on a number of cars and was the winning bidder on a good number of them on eBay and find items I was not informed of in the description, this as I know can be very disappointing! BACKGROUND: • This VW belongs to my ex-wife that now resides in an assisted living facility and I am helping her sell it. She informed me she was driving it and it just quit running and had to be towed in 2011…I have been storing it for her, but now need the room and she has agreed to sell it with NO RESERVE! I have been messing with it the past couple of weeks to learn as much as I can about it. I am not a mechanic, but these VW are pretty straight forward. She bought the car 3/24/2010. In March of 2010 it had the interior door panels and interior quarter panels replaced with better ones along with front door glass. In MAY and June of 2010 she put $1056.38 into this VW. The work consisted of: replace frt. & rear brake shoes & machine both frt. & rear drums / repack wheel bearings / replace all four wheel cylinders / replace master cylinder / replace brake line / repair & or replace headlights, bulbs, fuses, wiring, headlamp switch, rear tail light bracket assys., Along with a complete safety inspection. All invoices will go with the car. According to the invoices this work was done between 110,387 miles and 110401 miles. This Beetle’s odometer now shows 111,529 miles if accurate and I have no reason to believe it’s not. This is low mileage for the year of car it is & how structurally sound it seems to be. She did not drive this car very long before she became too sick to drive it any longer and had to go into assisted living. Her wish was always to fix it up and drive it as long as she could. The damage to the left rear and left front fenders as well as the outside rear view mirror occurred when some smart individuals thought it would be cute to turn this poor little bug onto it’s side- while in my care! The 1968 VW came with a 91.10 cu. In. engine/1492.9 cc (1500) that developed 53 HP @ 4200 RPM. According to the specs, which I believe it has. POSITIVES: • Very solid and sound car, an easy restoration. • Very little surface rust. • Very nice floor carpeting…needs vacuumed and cleaned but quite nice. • Most safety work already done. • Floor pans in front seem to be solid. • Transmission seems to be in good shape. • Parts easily available (MID AMERICA MOTORWORKS) VW parts. • Good clean Colorado title, in hand along with invoices on work performed. • Running boards are solid. • All window glass intact-no cracks. • Seats and upholstery is usable as is-no springs showing-needs cleaning, if mine I would re-upholster the seats and headliner. • Includes original interior--- door panels/door handles trim/rear quarter panels. • Includes original exterior--- 4 hub caps/headlight bezels/spare tire-tire not good. • For more pictures contact me and I’ll get them to you. • This 1968 VW Bug has great possibilities for restoration at a very reasonable cost for what it needs—body work is minimal—this condition of VW is getting exceedingly hard to find this solid! NEGATIVES: • Motor will not turn over by hand. • Consider the fact that the engine probable needs rebuilt or replaced. • Floor pans in back seat area need replaced. • Body work on left side fenders and outside rear view mirror ( see pictures). • Needs paint job. • Needs new headliner and upholstery, but very useable as is. • Needs tires—(two hold air/one has leak/two won’t hold air). • Needs battery-windshield wipers. • Needs new welting at fenders as well as running board covers. Possibilities: • I do have someone that might transport, depending on location and distance for $1.85 a loaded mile-no brokerage fees! Please contact if interested. • I can store for 30 days for pick up arrangements-if needed. No guaranties on safety or condition of vehicle after 10 days of full payment. PAYMENT: • Deposit of $150.00 due within 24 hours of winning bid to PayPal, no refunds on deposit. • Full payment due within 7 days after auction ends, by certified funds, wire transfer or cash upon pick-up (NO PayPal on balance). • Contact me within 24 hours for payment arrangements. • If feedback is less than 10 and not 100%---please contact me prior to bidding!!!!! • Contact me with any special request as I will try to work with you if it is at all possible to do so. • My personal cell phone number is 1-719-641-6735 and my name is Clint---call between the hours of 9 A.M. and 9 P.M.—if no answer please leave message and speak slowly and clearly, then repeat info again, I WILL RETURN YOUR CALL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. • Pease do not bid on this VW if you do not intend to go thru with your commitment to buy this BUG as a bid is a legal contract to purchase said item!

How should Volkswagen deal with its diesel problems?

Mon, Sep 21 2015

The hounds of hell are bearing down on Volkswagen in the wake of allegations of cheating on diesel emissions testing. In just a single day, Volkswagen's stock has dropped 23 percent and the German government has announced that it is going to investigate a far larger number of vehicles over emissions violations. The American storm is quickly becoming a global one. Volkswagen sells over a million diesel vehicles a year and also has more than 13 percent of the automotive market overall – it was the number one automaker in the world up until the scandal. Yet in a matter of hours, Volkswagen has also become a pariah with potential fines and recalls that may be dwarfed by how the alleged lies and deceit change how governments and consumers view the company. Consumers are really going to be the key to the company's survival. It's those consumers who are really going to be the key to the company's survival. Every single one of them now finds themselves with a product that was sold illegally and may not be registered until recall work is done. What's worse is that Volkswagen doesn't yet have a solution for the emissions issue to offer these customers. It should also be noted that this is not the first time Volkswagen has found itself in violation of EPA emission regulations. Volkswagen is in a world of trouble, so what now? As a car dealer and former financial analyst who took several companies public, I believe Volkswagen can and should consider three points of action that would make an enduring difference in the times to come. 1. Offer affected TDI owners a compelling reason to stay with the brand. Recall work and a cup of coffee at the dealership are not going to be enough to placate current owners. Volkswagen should provide compensation for customers at the earliest opportunity and offer some type of inducement that keeps them within the fold. This shouldn't be the industry's version of a Chuck E. Cheese coupon - a small discount on a new vehicle. Volkswagen needs to offer something along the lines of a strong warranty extension of the entire powertrain (not just the emissions system) or some type of valuable feature upgrade for these vehicles so that owners feel that they have been treated fairly. Perhaps a combination of a brand new navigation system, software upgrades for the infotainment components, or some type of basic free WiFi service would be a healthy act of generosity.

Volkswagen rules out Eos successor

Fri, Jan 16 2015

When Volkswagen introduced the Eos back in 2006, hard-top convertibles were all the rage – in North America, in Europe and around the world. But the trend, billed at the time as the best of both worlds, has long since subsided, leading to VW axing the Eos several months ago. And don't count on it getting a successor at some point down the line, either. At the Detroit Auto Show earlier this week, VW R&D chief Heinz-Jakob Neusser told Autocar that the Eos is down for the count. In fact it is "maybe the first model we take out of the market" in a reversal of the momentum that has seen the German automaker expand its lineup incrementally over the past several years – although the Chrysler-built Routan minivan was also canceled around the same time. The place the Eos occupied in VW's North American lineup is largely being taken by the more charismatic Beetle Convertible, and in Europe and other markets by the Golf Cabriolet that's still based on the previous-generation hatchback. The Eos, however, isn't the only hard-top convertible withdrawn from the market in recent years. Tin-top cabrios like the Lexus IS and SC, Cadillac XLR, Chrysler 200, Pontiac G6 and Volvo C70 have all gone the way of the dodo – as have Euro-market coupe-convertibles versions of models like the Ford Focus, Opel Astra, and Peugeot 207. The arrival of the Buick Cascada just goes to show that soft-roofed convertibles have won out, particularly as far as four-seat cabrios are concerned. The one notable exception where folding hard-tops are still gaining traction is among mid-engined exotic supercars like the Ferrari 458 and McLaren 650S, both of which opted for solid folding roofs instead of fabric ones. We've yet to see, however, which approach Lamborghini will take with the Huracan Spyder or Audi will with the next-generation R8, the predecessors of both of which featured fabric roofs.

VW stripped of Green Car Of The Year awards for Jetta, A3 diesels

Wed, Sep 30 2015

In the wake of the ongoing VW diesel scandal, Green Car Journal has announced it will rescind the two Green Car Of The Year awards that the Volkswagen Group won with diesel vehicles that have been since been proven to not meet the stated emissions levels. The two vehicles are the 2009 VW Jetta TDI, which won in 2008, and the 2010 Audi A3 TDI, which won in 2010. Green Car Journal (GCJ) did not say if it would retroactively name any replacement winners. This is the first time in the history of the Green Car Of The Year Awards that the honor has been taken away from the winner. In a statement announcing the change, GCJ publisher Ron Cogan wrote that, "this award rescission should not cast a negative light on advanced diesel technology in general. Many diesel models from a variety of auto manufacturers meet EPA and CARB emissions standards, bringing with them higher fuel efficiency, decreased petroleum use, and lower carbon emissions – all important environmental goals." VW AND AUDI RETURNING GREEN CAR OF THE YEAR® AWARDS, VEHICLES DEEMED INELIGIBLE SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., Sept. 30, 2015 – Green Car Journal is rescinding the Green Car of the Year® awards previously honoring the 2009 VW Jetta TDI and 2010 Audi A3 TDI, the first time this has occurred in the award program's decade-long history. Audi of America President Scott Keogh has informed Green Car Journal that Audi will return its 2010 Green Car of the Year® award in the wake of Volkswagen Group's admission that it deliberately deceived government authorities about emissions from the Audi A3 TDI. Volkswagen of America has also informed Green Car Journal it will return its 2009 Green Car of the Year® award for the VW Jetta TDI. "Rescinding the Green Car of the Year® awards for the VW Jetta TDI and Audi A3 TDI is unfortunate but appropriate," said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com. "These models were selected as Green Car of the Year® above others for compelling reasons, including high fuel efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, a fun-to-drive nature, and the ability to meet 50 state emissions requirements with advanced diesel technology." However, VW Group has now admitted that its software programming intentionally caused in-lab emissions testing to read significantly lower nitrogen oxide emissions than these vehicles actually produced on the road.
