It looks great and it runs great, and it's been brought back to almost completely original throughout! Lovingly cared for and maintained by a very meticulous owner. All electrical works: lights, turning signals, horn, wipers and back up lights. Painted back to original color (L639 Zenith Blue) Left the dash, inside of doors, engine lid & hood original paint for reference. Interior is customized color but all to period correct. Paint and interior are only 9 months old. All work was done by West Coast Classic. This car looks completely new inside and out. New brakes recently added. Current registration and pink slip in hand in my name as owner. A real looker. Perfect beach car. One of the best 67?s out there. Completely new paint (brought back to the original Zenith Blue), completely new interior (complete with new headliner), new brakes, pop-out windows, rubber mats throughout interior (period correct), roof rack, working original Sapphire V AM radio, original washer & brake fluid reservoirs, original jack, new brakes, just tuned up. The 1967 Bug is the most coveted year by Bug owners. It's a completely 'one off' year. Many of the items on the car were for 67 only. Current mileage: 72586 I purchased the vehicle in 2008 and the gentleman had been driving it without the odometer functioning. I had the odometer (original by the way) refurbished and it works perfectly. The engine is strong and will go for many years to come. It has only been worked on by (1) old German mechanic and he shed a tear when I told him I was going to be selling. I love this car and I love talking about it. If you'd like to call me we can speak directly. Alex 818-822-7109 ** the only thing I will ask of the buyer is that he/she periodically send me pics of the adventures the car will have ** Original Saphire V AM Radio, Defrost, Heat, Original car jack, Original Owner's Manual, Original period correct bumpers, Restoration Receipts, Seatbelts-Front & back, all new period correct vinyl interior, all new period correct restored exterior paint. For many VW enthusiasts, the model year 1967 holds a special attraction. It's been long bantered about as the best year of the Beetle. It was the first year for the 1500cc engine, first year for 12-volt electrics, first year for the standard upright headlights, and the last year for the smaller bumpers and painted dash. There are many one year only parts on the 67 model year, especially the US spec versions and all of these attributes create what is one of the most recognizable and desirable Beetles out there. This is a '67 original survivor a respectable example of what many consider the best year of the VW Beetle. If you're looking for a true survivor, this is the '67 Beetle for you. This information applies only to Beetles destined for import into the Continental USA. The 1967 model of the Beetle Sedan (non Convertible) heralded several changes. Most of these changes are subtle and go unnoticed. First and foremost was the change from 6 volts to 12 volts. This is the most talked-about change and resulted in a significant, new direction for the Beetle both in physical capability (of the car) and in popularity. Note: silver 12 volt sticker on driver's door hinge pillar. Front fenders: change from covered headlights to open sealed beam headlamps with no parking light inside the headlight housing. The front parking light was incorporated into the top-of-the-fender-mounted turn signal housing. This particular fender was used only for the '67 year cars. A new type of headlamp ring began to be used. Reverse or back-up lamps: A switch was installed on the transmission so that when the car was placed into reverse, rear bumper-mounted lamps lighted. This was a one-year-only lamp since in '68 and later years the reverse lamps were incorporated into the taillight housing. Front seat knob: About mid-year, '67 models were fitted with a knob on the side of the seatback rather than the previously used handle at the seat base. Radio knobs: During the manufacturing year, rubber knobs began to be used. This was a new trend to accede to US "soft dash" standards. All '67 Beetles came equipped with rubber knobs for the emergency signal and headlight and wiper switches but the rubber radio knobs appeared during the production year. Sapphire V: A one-year-only Sapphire V radio, AM only, with the antenna now mounted at the driver's side just shy of the windshield. 12 V: 12 volt two-speed wiper motor and switch.12 volt generator/coil/carburetor choke heater, of course for the new 12 volt system. Seat belts: One-year-only seat belts. These belts mounted on the B pillar and could be latched into place when not in use. The belt was housed in a sheath that pivoted downward beside the driver or front passenger so that the belt could be pulled from its sheath, over the person's lap and the snap end clamped to a tunnel-mounted, chromed bracket. Belts were dealer-installed since USA requirements for mandatory seatbelts did not occur until 1968. The black box: A "black box" under the hood now housed major electrical components. This box, persisted for years '67 and '68. One year only window cranks: The knobs were a one-year-only black plastic. Decklid and rear apron The apron was changed. This one-year-only apron now featured a latch hole that had a rubber seal to prevent road dust and moisture from entering the engine compartment. The new latch was a low-profile bar secured by two bolts used only in that application. The decklid was changed to conform to the new apron. On the decklid was the new script which read "VOLKSWAGEN". Rear bumper over-riders: A one-year-only design that shortened the middle legs to give added clearance to the newly designed decklid. Body, running board trim and hood trim: This was a new slimmed design that set the trend for all succeeding Beetles. This necessitated smaller holes in the body and hood with redesigned plastic trim clips and new trim clips for the running boards. Exterior rearview mirror A one-year-only redesigned ovoid (pear-shaped) style. Engine: 1500cc displacement of about 53 Hp. That began the "H" series engine case to run for 3 years. Oil bath air cleaner: Greatly enlarged with dual air-intake. The size increase mirrored the larger engine displacement. The size and weight of this one-year-only air cleaner/breather necessitated a one-year-only stabilizing bracket that mounted on the front manifold bolt and held the airbreather firmly in position. The dual intakes also necessitated a small diameter paper hose on either side that dropped through small holes in the one-year-only breastplate. Beneath the breastplate were right and left deflector plates, each with a hole. Behind each of these plates was mounted a tube, mounted to the exhaust stud on either side of the engine. The breather hoses dropped through the breastplate, passed through the holes in the deflector plates and mounted over the metal stabilizing tubes. Pilot jet valve: An "anti-dieseling" device was added to the generator side of the carburetor. This was an electro-magnetic valve that closed the gas supply as soon as the ignition switch was shut off. Regulator: The regulator was placed beneath the rear seat. Axle tube: A lengthened one-year-only axle and axle tube was used on the '67 models. The axle tube continued through the 1968 production year (however, axles for '68 models had longer splines). Transmission: A one-year-only transmission with a 4.125 gear ratio. This transmission remained the Beetle tranny through '72 1/2 when the ratio was changed to 3.88 with the advent of the "single-side-plate" transmission. Brake cylinder: Dual master brake cylinder with two brake-light switches and a one-year-only brake fluid reservoir. There were two metal tubes between the master cylinder and the brake fluid reservoir for this year only. Door handles: One-year-only exterior door handles, doorlock pulls (buttons), mounted on the door frame, and new, recessed interior door pulls as opposed to the former interior door handle locking capability. (formerly up to open and down to lock) Fuses: Expanded fuse panel from 8 to 10 fuses. Ash tray: Redesigned without a knob but with a "dimple" at the bottom edge for pulling the tray with the fingers. Car companies may need to start curbing model proliferation
Mon, 17 Nov 2014Looking at the current automotive landscape, especially from German makers, you quickly get the impression that less definitely isn't more. BMW alone offers its 3 Series platform in practically every segment possible, including the regular sedan and 4 Series Gran Coupe, which would seem to be direct competitors. Porsche might be the winner, though, with 20 different variants of the 911 listed for sale on its US website. However, some of this model madness might be reaching an end as companies begin cutting back spending or shifting money to other priorities.
According to Yahoo Finance, the offerings from the German automakers are up 25 percent over the past three years to over 200 models in Europe. The peak is expected to come around 2018 at 230 separate vehicles, according to consulting company PwC.
Amazingly, BMW, which is among the poster children for this model explosion, might be changing its tune. "I'm sure there will be points in the future where we look at certain cars and say, 'Maybe we need to think differently now,'" said head of sales Ian Robertson in an interview, according to Yahoo Finance. The statement certainly sounds shocking coming from a company rumored to have 23 front-wheel-drive vehicles all using a single platform on the way.
Audi, Fiat squabbling over numbers and letters
Mon, Jan 19 2015There have been rumors and speculation and prognostications about a Nissan Juke- and Mini Cooper-fighting Audi Q2 since 2012. There have been the same for a performance-oriented Q4 since 2011, perhaps previewed by the TT Offroad concept shown last year at the Beijing Motor Show. Turns out that those two alphanumeric combos are the only ones missing from the series Q1 to Q9 in Audi's trademark stable, and the Ingolstadt company wants to get them to make its badge sequence and crossover lineup complete. But Fiat owns them, and rumor is, CEO Sergio Marchionne appears to have no interest in selling them. Fiat has used the Q2 and Q4 like trim badges, identifying whether a company product has two-wheel or all-wheel drive. They did it with the Alfa Romeo 159 sedan, and they do it now on the Maserati Quattroporte S and Ghibli S Q4 sedans. Car magazine says Marchionne "may not be categorically opposed to selling the rights," but he absolutely won't do it to any fiefdom in the Volkswagen empire, which would leave Audi a jilted suitor. Why is Sergio being so serious? VW Group CEO Ferdinand Piech first starting waving torches on the bridge between the two companies when he said Alfa Romeo could sell four times as many cars if Volkswagen owned it, then burned the bridge when it continued to publicize its desire to buy Alfa Romeo. VW followed that up by throwing salt on the land around the destroyed bridge with its aggressive pricing in Europe during the worst of the car sales slump there, which Marchionne said was causing a "bloodbath." VW's final flourish was to set the river itself on fire, when a press officer said Marchionne wasn't qualified to head the European Automotive Manufacturers Association (ACEA) and VW would quit the organization if he did take the top spot. That is why, putting it optimistically, Audi looks to have a grim chance of getting the Q2 and Q4 marques from the Italian. So long as he is in power, at least: Marchionne said he's walking away from the job in 2018. Audi might have a better chance bending the knee to, and generously rewarding, his successor. VW Jetta GLI, Peugeot 505 are MotorWeek's 1986 Euro sport sedan alternatives
Tue, Dec 23 2014Video reviews have become a mainstay of automotive journalism, but long before every publication turned on its video cameras and started uploading to YouTube, there was one program that was blazing the trail. That, of course, was MotorWeek, the television car program produced by Maryland Public Television and hosted by the inimitable John Davis. The program first aired back in 1981, and after more than three decades in the business, it's got a considerable archive of old episodes to unearth. In this latest gem recovered from the MotorWeek back catalog, the program pitted two European sports sedans against each other: a Volkswagen Jetta GLI and a Peugeot 505 Turbo. That's right: back in the 1980s, Peugeot was still competing in the US marketplace. The forced-induction 505 may not have been enough to keep the French automaker in American showrooms, but it was enough to stand up against the VW. Which one won MotorWeek's favor? You'll just have to watch the six-minute clip to find out. News Source: MotorWeek via YouTube Volkswagen Peugeot Economy Cars Performance Videos Sedan vw jetta gli
