66 sedan. True survivor from Northeast with 59,000 miles.  I purchased the car two years ago from MA, the prior owner said she bought it from an elderly man, and that the car spent most of its life garaged in New York. All of the metal on this car is original, and hasn’t been repaired or replaced. This means fenders, doors, floors, rockers, trim, bumpers… I hope you get the picture!! Please don’t ask me about rust. I’m telling you this car is 100% rock solid, which means 100% rock solid. It has’t been patched, or welded,  like most Beetles of this age. It’s never been hit, never welded, never rusted. Hood is as straight as when it left the factory.  Perfect floors,  heater channels, etc.  No holes drilled anywhere, nothing cut.

Exterior:

Car had exterior re-spray many years ago in original sea blue. Looks like laquer, and is driver quality. It is presentable as a driver, and will buff up fairly well. It is not a show car. Just the outside was painted, everywhere else is original paint. The interior paint is OG and beautiful. Since I’ve owned the car, I’ve pulled the fenders, glass, and bumpers then wet-sanded and buffed the paint, touched up some areas where the OG seam sealer was lifting, and re-assembled with new window rubber. The OG sea blue fender bead is still on the car. All OG hardware is intact, no broken/missing bolts.

Interior:

Interior has new square weave floor covering, but still retains original luggage area carpet, seat upholstery, door panels and headliner.  Trunk area looks as nice as any survivor you’ll find. Perfect unmolested wiring , wiring cover,  and OG spare.

Mechanicals:

OG 1300 made 3 hour trip from cape cod when I bought it, ran perfect. Had small knock at low rpm, turned out to be worn cam bearing thrust surface. I disassembled, cleaned, installed new cam bearings, re-sealed, re-assembled it. OG trans in exc shape, and has fresh fluid. Still 6 volts, new battery. Everything works, even the AM radio.

Only mods are a dropped disc brake kit with bus master cyl,  OE style 15x5.5 rear rims, custom offset 15x4 fronts. The 4 OG date stamped rims in great shape and go with car. Two have kumho 165/15 radials mounted on them.

There are hundreds of 60’s vintage bugs with new paint, running everyday 1600’s, with inexpensive replacement parts for similar $ out there, and 99% of them have had rust repair at some point.  If you’re a purist, and want one that’s unmolested, rust-free, that you can drive and enjoy as-is, this is it.   There are not many left like this out there anymore.

Reserve is $7500. I may lower it if it gets close.  The OG rims, front spindles/brakes will not be re-installed but all go with car.  I have period correct accessories available at extra if interested: OG roof rack ($300), rare decklid rack ($300), 66 vert decklid ($350), NOS Indy shifter with OG box ($150) Also have complete “old school”  2058 cc T1. 80mm Okrasa crank, H-beam rods, 2” Chevy journals, Mahle 90.5B pistons. Weber  40 DCNF’s with Deano intakes and vintage berg linkage, NOS bosch 019 screamer. Thanks for looking

On Aug-04-14 at 18:23:13 PDT, seller added the following information:

Chrome and trim is all original. Bumpers are straight, some of the bumper guard shave minor dings, but blades and over-riders are very nice and straight.  Front overider bow has minor pitting, everything else is a little hazy, but presentable. They're 48 year old bumpers, so they will not look brand new.

Headliner is original, nice and tight, only condition issues are a few (5 or 6) holes the size of a quarter near the ends of the bows from looks to be a mouse. Was going to replace it when the glass was out, but that would lead to replacing everything and would (in my opinion) take away from the originality of the car. Your call as to how you'd  handle it.

Weekly Recap: 2016 CTS-V gives Cadillac new momentum for the new year

Sat, Dec 27 2014

It's been a rough year for Cadillac. The historic luxury carmaker been in the news for all of the wrong reasons: Declining sales, ditching its advertising agency and the relocation of its headquarters from Detroit to New York. But in late December, Cadillac reminded everyone what it does best: Build some of the rawest and most compelling luxury sedans in the world, as evidenced by the 2016 CTS-V. This monster churns out 640 horsepower from a supercharged 6.2-liter V8. Sound familiar? That's the Corvette Z06 engine, and it makes this CTS the most powerful production Cadillac ever. It also puts the sporting divisions of the Germans on notice. The new CTS-V easily overpowers the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S 4Matic and its 5.5-liter biturbo V8 rated at 577 hp, and the BMW M5 (with the competition pack) and its 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that pushes out 575 hp. The rear-wheel drive Cadillac can sprint to 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds, which is close to the 3.5-second time turned in by the 4Matic-driven E63 S, and a bit quicker than the 4.1 seconds posted by the M5. With Magnetic Ride Control, General Motors' stout eight-speed automatic transmission (also used in the Corvette), Brembo brakes and a carbon-fiber option package that pretty much builds your car out of carbon fiber – it's clear this Cadillac means business. Truth be told, we expected this CTS-V to deliver. It's been a serious sports sedan for a decade, and the recent generation and its 556-hp arrogance have been particularly memorable. But notice what we're doing here? We're talking about product. Not who makes Cadillac's ads, or if the brand's headquarters has a mailing address in NYC. Like the 2016 ATS-V that's due in the spring, the debut of the 2016 CTS-V (on sale in late summer) is a shot in the arm for Cadillac, and its arrival comes during time of transition. The brand is trying to reinvent itself as a modern luxury maker. It wants new customers, a different image and obviously more sales. Those things are going to take time, but with a 640-hp sledgehammer of a sports sedan on tap for next year, Cadillac can still maintain some of its swagger through all of the change. VW redoes A-ha's 'Take On Me' music video

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

Volkswagen has been responsible for its fair share of witty, clever commercials. "Tiny Vader" might be the most popular, but somehow, we think this newest spot will find a big audience. VW delivers not so much a cover, but a reimagining, of 1980s Norwegian pop band A-ha's famous music video for "Take On Me."
The original opens with an animated motorcycle race, which is revealed to be part of a comic book. VW's version replaces the motorcycle with a Passat, which strikes us as an oddly sober choice when there are cars like the GTI and Beetle in VW's portfolio. But never mind that - take a look down below for the entire 46-second spot. For reference, we've also included the original music video. And if you aren't a fan of the musical stylings of A-ha, just think, VW's choice of 1980s music could have been much worse.

Volkswagen CrossBlue previews a three-row future, diesel-hybrid power [w/video]

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

Volkswagen looks to be getting ready to jump into the large three-row crossover game. The automaker has officially pulled back the curtain on the CrossBlue Concept at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
Designers and engineers penned the machine specifically for the Canadian and US markets, and with a plug-in diesel electric hybrid drivetrain, the hulking five-door, at least in concept form, should offer substantially better efficiency than anything else on the market. The drivetrain pairs a 2.0-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine with two electric motors for a combined output of 305 horsepower and a ludicrous 516 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed dual-clutch gearbox handles shifting detail, while one electric motor spins the front wheels. The second motor spins the back axle independently, make the CrossBlue a through-the-road hybrid.
As a result, the crossover can pop to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. Perhaps more impressively, the CrossBlue can whir around on all-electric propulsion for up to 14 miles at up to 75 mph. Once the diesel four kicks in, the drivetrain can yield up to 39 mpg, though Volkswagen says the hardware can hit 89 MPGe on a full charge thanks to a 9.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Check out the full press release below for more information.
