Purchased in Arizona a couple years back for a restoration project this bug is in great condition. The rear fenders were replaced by the past owner and there in no body ( holes), just slight surface rust on the front. I found a small area behind the drivers seat / chassis that has a 4" long rust area, but outside of that it is an outstanding find! Thanks to the western climate which is so kind to our fine automobiles.
The engine is a stock 1200 cc 6 volt system, and looks to be complete, no accessories or modifications, even the stock air box. It runs good and is strong and I drove the car back and fourth to work for a few months this past year. The engine leaks a little from the bottom, but since my intentions were a total original restore I was going to rebuild it anyway. The transmission shifts good but "pops" out of reverse, so you have to hold the stick while in reverse, this would need to be repaired. It has only a drivers seat but I had just purchased (2) used 1968 high back seats to replace the original low back that I do not like anyway.
The dash board and steering wheel is original and in great shape, also untouched by modifiers, It seems that this car was kept and driven by an adult with respect to the pure VW era. I have the original fenders which I took off to have re-chromed but did not do so. The mag rims are a cool feature and made in the USA?, wide-5 original bolt pattern. The car can be a daily driver as is, needs to have brakes checked and adjusted, I have not done so. the tires are in good shape and have a few miles left on them.
I am only selling this because I have to move and our new location will not permit me to keep all of my projects. Any questions can be emailed to me or I can be contacted Monday - friday 9:30-5:30 Est. at 863 699-1231, ask for Tony Sr.
I have restored many VW's in my live, and I can tell you this with 100% accuracy, this is one of the best condition VW's in it's original form and perfect for a show restore project. They are far and few between in this condition these days.

There is a statement where I mistakenly stated " took the fenders off", when in fact I meant "Took the Bumpers off".

2014 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible gets the R-Line treatment
Thu, 07 Feb 2013Volkswagen just launched the topless Beetle Convertible at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, but we're already seeing the next step forward in the topless Bug range with this, the R-Line. We'll admit, this treatment falls under the "all show and no go" category, but it's still a pretty potent little cutie.
The R-Line starts with a standard Beetle Turbo Convertible but adds unique 19-inch aluminum wheels on lower-profile tires, LED daytime running lamps and Xenon headlamps. Naturally, there are R-Line badges aplenty both on the interior and exterior, and we must say, the whole package looks pretty darn snazzy.
Pricing has yet to be announced, but when it goes on sale later this year, the hotter convertible will join Volkswagen's growing R-Line portfolio that now includes the CC, Beetle hatch, Tiguan and Touareg.
Translogic 171: EV West Karmann Ghia Electric Conversion
Wed, Feb 25 2015Translogic checks out EV West, one of the world leaders in electric vehicle conversions. Host Jonathon Buckley interviews EV West owner Michael Bream and test drives a converted 1969 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. What drives EV West to electrify classic cars may surprise some. "We're not doing this because we're the hardcore environmentalists or we're trying to save the earth," says Bream. "If we can't at least double your horsepower and torque, we won't touch the car." In fact, EV West brings a race-tested performance pedigree to back up those boasts. The company competed in the electric class at Pikes Peak, has run through the desert at Baja, and in general has successfully proved that battery-electric vehicles can compete at a high level. Foreign automakers pay from $38 to $65 per hour to non-union workers
Sun, Mar 29 2015As leaders for the United Auto Workers gather in Detroit for their Special Convention on Collective Bargaining to work out the negotiating stance for this year's new labor agreements with the Detroit 3 automakers, what they most want to do is figure out how to eliminate the two-tier wage scale. However, the lower Tier 2 wage has allowed the domestic automakers to reduce their labor costs, hire more workers, and compete better with their import competition. As it stands, per-hour labor rates including benefits are $58 at General Motors, $57 at Ford, and $48 at Fiat-Chrysler – a reflection of FCA's much greater number of Tier 2 workers. The Center for Automotive Research released a study of labor rates (including benefits) that put numbers to what the imports pay: Mercedes-Benz pays the most, at an average of $65 per hour, Volkswagen pays the least, at $38 per hour, and BMW is just a hair above that at $39 per hour. Among the Detroit competitors, Honda workers earn an average of $49 per hour, at Toyota it's $48 per hour, Nissan is $42 per hour, and Hyundai-Kia pays $41 per hour. The lower import wages are aided by their greater use of temporary workers compared to the domestics. Automotive News says the ten-dollar gap between those foreign camakers and the domestics turns out to about an extra $250 per car in labor, which adds up quickly when you're pumping out many millions of cars. That $250-per-car number is one that, come negotiating time, the Detroit 3 will want to reduce, as the UAW is trying to raise both Tier 1 and Tier 2 wages. Another wrinkle is that the domestic carmakers are considering the wide adoption of a third wage level lower than Tier 2. Some workers who do minor tasks like assembling parts trays kits and battery packs already make less than Tier 2, but the UAW will be quite wary about cementing yet another wage scale at the bottom of the system while it's trying to fight a bigger battle at the top.
