For sale is my 1964 bug.  We are moving 5 states across and trying to sell many things possible.
Regretfully my bug got on the chopping block list.  I will consider keeping it if it does not sell here.

History
I was told by the PO that this bug originally came from New Mexico.  I bought it from him and drove it to Chicago from Tennessee about 6 years ago.
He told me that all glass are original and so are all metal except the right rear fender which had to be replaced from another bug.
I have no reason to doubt him from inspection.
PO painted inside and out with Desert Rose paint color and rust proofed underneath.
He also installed drop spindle and skinny front tires and fat rears for the "hot rod" look.
All interior was freshly done when I bought it and 6 volt was converted to 12 volt.
Ignition relay was installed to protect the ignition switch.
Points were upgraded to Pertronic electronic ignition.

What I've done
The car had 1600 mated to 6 volt transmission with bell housing ground out when I bought it.
But it had bad end play and ran rough with oil dripping.  I was surprised I actually made it home (6 hour drive).
So I replaced both engine and transmission going back to 1200 and unmolested 6 volt transmission.
I installed 6 volt flywheel with bigger 12 volt clutch (special flywheel from MOFOCO) and installed 6 volt starter with 12 volt solenoid.
This spins the engine faster when starting but eliminate over active solenoid and still retain 6 volt teeth.
I installed the thermostat with functioning air velocity ring for quicker warm up.
The carburetor is a genuine German 28 PICT with 6 volt choke heater and step down register.
Headlights were upgraded to quality HID system with high and low beams.
I still have the original 12 volt sealed (non-halogen) headlights if you want them.
Potentiameter was installed for wiper motor in place of step down register to give it a variable speed.
An electric washer pump was installed instead of using air from the spare tire.
A three point seat belt was installed on the driver side.
Heater blower fans were installed in place of flex hose between the body to the engine.

Condition
This is probably one of the rare bugs that does not mark its spot. There are no oil drips.
The engine purrs and starts immediately on the first crank.
Transmission shifts accurate and smooth with no play in the shifter (for a bug anyway).
Everything works except the horn. It was working last year so it must be contacts.
The mileage listed is what is showing on the odometer and probably not the actual miles.
I have not seen any rust as long as I've owned it but than everything was either painted or covered with under coating.
The external paint now has chips and scratches.  The body work by PO was not great and it was one of the things I was going to redo.
Some external chromes have tiny rust dots everywhere.
Brake fluid reservoir to master cylinder hose is leaking but the master cylinder is new.
This is by no means show quality and by no means all original bug. But everything that was done can be easily reversed.

What it needs
Needs new 1200 tins (if you're going to keep it as 1200).
It is fine and functional the way it is but I made them from 1600 tins so I would replace them.
Needs more caster.  The drop spindle mess it up.
Touch up paint.
Better chrome.

Title is clear in my name in hand but tags are expired.
I do require deposit of $1000 within 48 hours of auction end.
You can fly in and drive it home anywhere and I can meet you at either O'Hare or Midway airport.
I can assist in shipping but it is entirely your responsibility.
Please note that it is at your own risk for purchasing 50 year old car.  There are no warranty nor guarantee offered or implied.
I've described everything as much as possible but please do ask if you have any questions or need pictures.

Thank you.

$1.4B hedge fund suit against Porsche dismissed

Wed, 19 Mar 2014

Investors have canvassed courts in Europe and the US to repeatedly sue Porsche over its failed attempt to take over Volkswagen in 2008 (see here, and here and here), and they have repeatedly failed to win any cases. You can add another big loss to the tally, with Bloomberg reporting that the Stuttgart Regional Court has dismissed a 1.4-billion euro ($1.95B US) lawsuit, the decision explained by the court's assertion that the investors would have lost on their short bets even if Porsche hadn't misled them.
Examining the hedge funds' motives for stock purchases and the bets that VW share prices would fall, judge Carola Wittig said that the funds didn't base their decisions on the key bits of "misinformation," and instead were participating simply in "highly speculative and naked short selling," only to get caught out.
With other cases still pending, the continued streak of victories bodes well for Porsche's courtroom fortunes, since judges will expect new information to consider overturning precedent. If there is any new info, it could come from the potential criminal cases still outstanding against former CEO Wendelin Wiedeking and CFO Holger Härter, who were both indicted on charges of market manipulation.

Volkswagen finds CO2 'irregularities' for 800k vehicles

Wed, Nov 4 2015

The latest issue for Volkswagen affects another 800,000 vehicles, and this time its for irregularities in CO2 emissions certifications. VW estimates this issue could cost the company $2.2 billion to fix. The company officially makes no specific mention of which engines are covered, the models they are in, or even where they are located. VW discovered the situation during its ongoing internal investigation, and, according to the automaker, "it was established that the CO2 levels and thus the fuel consumption figures for some models were set too low during the CO2 certification process." Most of the affected vehicles are diesels, and the company is now reaching out to "the responsible type approval agencies" to figure out the next step. While VW isn't officially confirming which models and engines are involved, Automotive News reports that it affects some 2012 and later VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda models with the company's 1.4-, 1.6-, and 2.0-liter diesel engines, as well as the 1.4-liter ACT gasoline engine. The issue mainly affects vehicles sold in Europe. "The Board of Management of Volkswagen AG deeply regrets this situation and wishes to underscore its determination to systematically continue along the present path of clarification and transparency," CEO Matthias Muller said in the announcement. Volkswagen Group of America spokesperson Jeannine Ginivan was able to provide some further clarification to Autoblog. "This is not related to US-certified vehicles," she said. Clarification moving forward: internal investigations at Volkswagen identify irregularities in CO2 levels Matthias Muller: "Relentless and comprehensive clarification is our only alternative." Around 800,000 Group vehicles could be affected Initial estimate puts economic risks at approximately 2 billion euros The Volkswagen Group is moving forward with the clarification of the diesel issue: during the course of internal investigations irregularities were found when determining type approval CO2 levels. Based on present knowledge around 800,000 vehicles from the Volkswagen Group could be affected. An initial estimate puts the economic risks at approximately two billion euros. The Board of Management of Volkswagen AG will immediately start a dialog with the responsible type approval agencies regarding the consequences of these findings. This should lead to a reliable assessment of the legal, and the subsequent economic consequences of this not yet fully explained issue.

VW launches special edition Touareg X

Tue, 03 Dec 2013

Volkswagen is no stranger to special editions, but its Touareg SUV has remained largely unspecial in terms of exclusive trims or unique packages. That's changed with the announcement of the Touareg X, a 1,000-unit run based on the V6 TDI Lux trim - mid-range diesel model, between the navigation-equipped TDI Sport and the TDI R-Line.
The already special Touareg gets 19-inch "Moab" wheels, LED taillights (to go along with its LED DRLs) and "Touareg X" badging, while all 1,000 units will be painted Moonlight Blue Pearl. Tweaks in the cabin are equally light, with a black-on-black-on-black color scheme dominating - black Vienna leather, a black headliner and piano black trim. Aluminum bits make an appearance in the form of the door sills and pedals, although that's about it.
Other than those few aesthetic tweaks, the Touareg X is equipped largely like the Touareg Lux on which it's based. That means navigation, a panoramic sunroof, power seats, LED running lights, dual-zone air conditioning and heated power seats, among other tech pieces. Pricing starts at $56,170, making for a slight bump of $1,195 over the standard Touareg Lux.
