1964 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE DELUXE, PURCHASED SEPT 09 1963. I HAVE HELPED MAINTAINED THIS CAR FOR FRANZI SCHMID FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS. FRANZI PASSED AWAY 2 MONTHS AGO AT THE AGE OF 90 AND LEFT ME HER CAR IN HER ESTATE. I TRIED TO KEEP THE ORIGINAL TITLE BUT THE ESTATE REQUIRED IT IN MY NAME LAST WEEK. FRANZI KEPT EVERY BIT OF DOCUMENTATION ON THE CAR IMMAGINABLE INCLUDING A LITTLE BOOK ON HOW MUCH SHE SPENT ON GAS AND THE GALLONS. THERE IS A TON OF PAPER WORK THAT COMES WITH IT, A FEW OF THE DOCUMENTS WERE PUT IN THE PICTURES. ALL MAINTENANCE ON THE CAR HAS BEEN DONE ACCORDING TO VW'S MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE WITH ALL RECEIPTS.
THE CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGE KEPT BUT THE FLORIDA SUN HAS TAKEN ITS TOLL ON THE PAINT THE PAST 50 YEARS. THERE ARE QUITE A FEW DENTS ON MOSTLY ON THE FENDERS. THE REAR RIGHT FENDER HAD SOME TERRIBLE BODY WORK DONE WHERE SOMEONE TOOK A HAMMER AND BEAT OUT A DENT. THERE ARE TOO MANY SCRATCHES TO DESCRIBE. RUSY IS MINIMAL THERE APPEARS TO BE SOME UNDER THE RUNNING BOARD RUBBER BUT IT HASN'T CHANGED IN 20 YEARS. THERE IS ONE VERY SMALL SPOT THROUGH ON THE ENGINE COVER THAT I FILLED IN WITH JB WELD. THERE DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE ANY TOUCH UPS OR BONDO OR ANY SIGN OF AN ACCIDENT ON THE CAR. THE HEADLINER HAS MANY TEARS AND A FEW HOLES IN IT. SOME OF THE UPHOLSTERY HAS A FEW TEARS IN THE SEAMS BUT SEEMS TO HAVE HELD UP PRETTY WELL FOR 50 YEARS. ONE REASON IS BECAUSE THERE WERE SEAT COVERS. THE REAR AND DOOR PANELS ARE IN FAIRLY GOOD SHAPE. THE REAR VIEW MIRROR HAS WHAT LOOKS LIKE A LARGE BUBBLE IN IT. THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD HAD A LEAK SO I PUT 700MPH TAPE AND A COUPLE OF CLAMS ON IT QUITE A FEW YEARS AGO. ALL LIGHT WORK AS THEY SHOULD EXCEPT THE INTERIOR LIGHT ISN'T WORKING. HORN, W/WIPERS AND ALL LOCKS WORK AS THEY SHOULD. I PUT WATER AND AIR TO THE WINDSHIELD WASHERS BUT THEY DIDN'T PUSH WATER OUT. I TRIED TAKING PICTURES OF EVERYTHING I HAVE LISTED INCLUDING WHERE THE BATTERY SAT TO SHOW CORROSION IS ALMOST COMPLETELY NON EXISTENT. THE BATTERY STRAP IS THERE BUT BROKEN. I TOOK A PICTURE INSIDE THE FRONT NOSE CLIP WHERE THE SPARE TIRE GOES TO SHOW NO DAMAGE THERE. COMES WITH THE 2 ORIGINAL SETS OF KEYS, TOOL KIT AND JACK. THE CAR SHOWS APPROX 191,500 MILES BUT DOES NOT SMOKING OR USE OIL. THE ENGINE HAS NEVER BEEN TOUCHED.
NEW ITEMS HAVE BEEN ADDED AS NEEDED OVER THE YEARS SUCH AS ALMOST NEW TIRES, CLUTCH, CARB, AXLE BOOTS AND QUITE A FEW OTHER THINGS I CAN'T THINK OF OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD. ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO AGAINST MY JUDGMENT FRANZI TOOK THE CAR TO THE DAYTONA BEACH VW DEALER AND TOLD THEM TO GO COMPLETELY OVER THE CAR AND DO WHATEVER IT NEEDED WHICH CAME OUT TO ALMOST $1,300 DOLLARS NON OF WHICH INCLUDES THE WORK STATED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PARAGRAPH. THIS CAR HAS COME FROM A NON SMOKING AND DRINKING FAMILY! :) THE CAR FEELS AND DRIVES JUST LIKE IT DID BACK IN THE DAY, IT DOESN'T FEEL LOOSE, STOPS AS DESIGNED AND ISN'T A RATTLE TRAP!
I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP THE CAR BUT I HAVE 10 OF MY OWN AND DON'T HAVE THE GARAGE SPACE IT DESERVES. IF YOUR IN THE DAYTONA BEACH AREA AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE CAR YOU CAN CONTACT BRIAN AT 386-738-5113. BUYER HANDLES ALL SHIPPING BUT I AM HAPPY TO ASSIST IN LOADING IF NEEDED. THERE IS NO WARRANTY OR IMPLIED WARRANTY, IT IS A 50 YEAR OLD CAR. NO, I WOULDN'T DRIVE IT TO CALIFORNIA! THANKS FOR LOOKING IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR WOULD LIKE MORE PICTURES PLEASE EMAIL ME.

2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD is our favorite oil-burning GTI
Tue, 05 Mar 2013
The 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD has officially bowed at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Engineers managed to squeeze an additional 14 horsepower and 22 pound-feet of torque out of the familiar 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine, nudging total output to 184 hp and 280 lb-ft for 2014. The figures are good enough to earn the GTD the honor of being the most powerful diesel Golf in Volkswagen history. A start/stop system helps improve efficiency over the previous generation with the new model consuming 56 miles per gallon on the EU cycle. That's up from the 2013 model's 46 mpg. A six-speed manual transmission is standard equipment, though a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox is also available.
The GTD also offers buyers a few aesthetic tweaks to help separate the hatch from its less potent siblings. Those include a more aggressive front fascia, special badges and 17-inch alloy wheels. Expect to find the GTD in one of three exterior colors, including Tornado Red, Black and Pure White. Check out the quick press release below for more details.
Lamando is Chinese for VW Jetta CC [w/video]
Sun, 31 Aug 2014Volkswagen is not messing around when it characterizes its new MQB architecture as modular. It's already underpinning the VW Golf, Audi A3, Seat Leon and Skoda Octavia, and will soon form the basis for many more. And here is the latest.
Unveiled at the Chengdu Motor Show in China this weekend is the new Volkswagen Lamando, a four-door coupe similar in size to a Jetta but with the svelter roofline of the larger Passat-based CC to go after the Mercedes-Benz CLA. It's essentially the production version of the New Midsize Coupe concept that previewed its arrival at the Beijing Motor Show this past April, and will be built locally for local consumption by VW's joint venture with SAIC.
Power comes from either a 1.4- or 2.0-liter turbo four mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, with an equivalent price tag below $30,000. Whether this or any similar vehicle ever arrives in North American showrooms remains to be seen, but we'll be watching to find out. In the meantime you can scope it out in the trippy video below and the photos in the gallery above.
How VW's hyper-efficient XL1 will influence the next Golf
Mon, 18 Aug 2014In 2007, the European Union mandated fleet average CO2 emissions of 158.7 g/km. For 2015, that figure will drop to 130 g/km, and the target for 2020 is an ambitions 95 g/km. Thanks to some German politicking, that target will be phased in from 2020 to 2024, but it will still apply to 80 percent of passenger cars in that first year. In US miles per gallon, that's the equivalent of going from about 35 mpg to 42 mpg to 57 mpg. The current Volkswagen Golf is rated from 85 g/km of CO2 to 190 g/km depending on model - and zero for the e-Golf, so for the next-generation MkVIII hatch due in 2019, to meet the goal, Volkswagen engineers will need to introduce a bunch of new tricks. According to a report in Autocar, VW be mining its hyper-efficient XL1 for some of them.
Predictions for the next Golf include a variable-compression engine, an electric flywheel and an electric turbo, along with taking greater advantage of coasting. Volkswagen could be getting help from Audi with the electric turbo and variable-compression engine and electric turbo, with Audi already having shown off the former and brand technical boss Ulrich Hackenberg confirming the VW Group is working on the latter. It's possible the flywheel system could also have the mark of The Four Rings: Autocar mentions a British system that Volvo is testing, but the R18 e-tron Quattro racer has been using one for years.
The need for such features is because the company won't be able to net enough future gains from just aerodynamic improvements and advanced materials. As price will be a factor (the regulations are expected to "add hundreds of euros to the cost of building a car"), adding much more aluminum or carbon fiber is an unlikely option. We're told the next generation won't be longer or wider than the current car, and being Europe's most popular model, VW doesn't want to make a big bet on futuristic aero, but the report says the MkVIII will "likely" have "the most aerodynamic treatment yet seen on a production vehicle," the area where lessons learned from the XL1 will truly be seen.
