1960 Volkswagen Beetle Pick Up Truck, A Unique & Fresh Built First Class Buggy on 2040-cars
Keene, New Hampshire, United States
1960 VW Pickup truck conversion. ONE OF A KIND
This 1960 VW sedan has been converted to a two seat pickup truck with a red oak and aluminum rack bed in the back. All of the body fabrication was performed by a professional California hot-rod builder. The rear of cab is one piece of hand fabricated steel; rear window (flat glass) uses a standard Bug rear window gasket. The fiberglass front hood flips forward on custom made aluminum hinges to allow access to the NOS gas tank and front trunk area. All wiring is new from front to back. Painted with Sikkens 2-stage Urethane. Paint quality is excellent. Hand fabricated truck bed hinges upward to allow access underneath. The rear “frame” is constructed of strong square steel tubing with an aluminum surround providing for a strong but light weight rear chassis. Very nice!! The interior has a GM S-10 tilt steering column with a very nice rose wood and aluminum steering wheel. The seats are Miata beige leather with speakers in the headrests and are fully adjustable forward and back as well as backrest position. The seating position is quite comfortable and roomy and, of course, the door panels match the leather seat color. The dash sports a good array of new top quality gauges as well installed in a custom built aluminum panel surrounding the steering column. The rest of the dash maintains the simple but elegant VW look. There are all new window gaskets, window scrapers and weather strips all around. The front and rear glass is new. The front axle beam has been modified to allow for front end height adjustment in traditional “buggy” style. The beam has been left at its stock width. There are new kingpins, tie rods, tie rod ends, steering damper and steering box. All this with new wheel bearings, stainless flexible brake lines, a new double master cylinder, new brakes and new shocks all around and all new tires as well. The engine is a VW 1776cc dual port with ported and polished heads, dual Kadron H40/44EIS carburetors that were just overhauled by the experts in California (a $600 job) and set up specifically for this engine configuration. The dual carb linkage set up is the new low profile design made specifically for this engine/carb setup. There is a custom oil sump with oil filter, external oil cooler, assorted aluminum and chrome goodies including a chrome shroud, customized tin and custom fabricated 1 1/2 inch tuned exhaust to let the hot air out. The ignition system is entirely new and super-hot including a new electronic distributor with mechanical advance. It all comes together as an easy starting little powerhouse that has lots of top end along with traditional VW reliability. This is a ONE OF A KIND VW HAND FABRICATED CONVERSION that draws a lot of attention but, more importantly, is a hoot to drive. There is a lot of photos available showing the progress of the work As with all sales involving this type of vehicle, there is no warranty of any kind either expressed or implied. This vehicle is being sold as-is with all faults. If you would take the time to review my feedback you will see that I haven't disappointed anyone yet over the past 15 years and the buyer of this VW won't be the first. |

2014 Volkswagen Beetle GSR is black and yellow, black and yellow
Thu, 07 Feb 2013Way back in 1973, Volkswagen decided it was high time to take the loveable air-cooled Bug racing. No, it wasn't painted in Herbie colors - Volkswagen called its sport-tuned machine the Beetle GSR, "Gelb Schwarzer Renner" or "Yellow Black Racer." Hence, the somewhat shocking paint scheme.
VW is bringing its sporty black and yellow Beetle back for 2014, and you can see live photos of it above. It's got a 210-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood (that'd be the hood up front, unlike the car's forebear), and a six-speed manual or DSG automatic transmission sends those ponies to the front wheels. Note that this car's output is up 10 horses on other turbo VWs, and the Jetta GLI and Beetle Turbo for 2013. The 0-60 run takes 6.6 seconds, and top speed is limited to 130 miles per hour.
Besides the in-your-face black and yellow paint, the GSR is outfitted with a large rear spoiler and 19-inch wheels shod with 235/40 tires. The bee-like hue carries over inside, with yellow stitching on black leather. Only 3,500 will be produced, each with its own unique plaque. Pricing has not yet been announced, but you're free to read through the press release below all the same.
VW investigating Golf water leak discovered by car magazine
Sat, 07 Sep 2013Volkswagen is in a spat with German magazine Auto Bild over claims that its new, seventh-generation Golf may already need a recall. The German weekly reports that new Golfs can leak water into front-passenger footwells due to a faulty drainage tube in their air conditioning systems.
And while the fix itself doesn't sound too terrible, because Volkswagen bases so many cars off the same platform as the Golf, Auto Bild is claiming that 300,000 models could be affected, including the Audi A3 and Seat Leon. That's a very bold claim. For its part, VW is vehemently denying that number, according to Reuters, saying it's aware of the problem and claiming only 46 Golfs need fixing. In addition, it denies that any Audi or Seat models are affected by the issue.
Either way, regardless of how pervasive this leak issue is, North American buyers should rest easy knowing that the problems ought to get fixed by the time the Mk VII Golf finaly reaches our dealerships.
Volkswagen reveals Beetle GSR, R-Line convertible and two special GTIs
Thu, 07 Feb 2013Volkswagen has chosen to really expand its performance-tuned portfolio at this year's Chicago Auto Show, bringing along a couple of new Beetles destined for model year 2014, as well as a pair of freshened GTI packages that you'll be able to buy almost right away.
The first, and splashiest of the Chicago goodies on the VW stand has got to be the 2014 Volkswagen Beetle GSR. Don't lose your temper, Acura Integra geeks; in this case, GSR stands for "Gelb Schwarzer Renner" or "Yellow Black Racer," and harkens back to a sport-tuned classic Beetle from the 1970s. For the 2014 iteration, the GSR gets a 210-horsepower version of VW's 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder. That engine is enough to push the Beetle to 60 miles per hour in 6.6 seconds, and up to a top speed of 130 mph.
Of course, you'll have long-since noticed the shockingly yellow-and-black livery before you stumble across the Turbo badge on the rear deck. The GSR gets 19-inch alloy wheels, 235-section tires and a tea-tray rear spoiler, but it's the paint and graphics package that will decide if this is your (lemony) cup of tea. Things don't get any subtler inside the car, either, as VW has carried the colorway through to the interior, as well. Only 3,500 Beetle GSRs will be produced, with just more than half of those going to the US - call your dealer today, Wiz Khalifa.
