1958 Diamond Grey Ragtop Matching Numbers w/VW Birth Certificate I am reluctantly selling my Beautiful Patina 1958 Ragtop Beetle. As always, I hate selling old VW's(great ones are getting too hard to find). This '58 OG ragtop has been lovingly cared for all of it's California raised lifetime. The car was kept by its original owner family until 2008( that's 50 years)! This car still has that wonderful old car smell that only a Vintage VW can offer. When you open the door, you know your getting into something very special! There is a record of one repaint way back in 1972 ( I have the receipt) along with the original receipt for new seat covers and headliner right after the paint job. The original seat upholstery is still under the newer seat covers. The installed covers from 1972 are one of a kind and match perfectly with the Awesome Patina from the 1972 paint job. You either love it or hate it!! Personally,I would never change it. There are a few very cool Period Vintage accessories installed inside including the "Extremely Rare Huls Seat Recliners (both front seats) and the matching Volmac Folding Shifter(very rare)!! I have many original maintenance records on this vehicle rating all the way back to 1960 and the car will come with the VW museum factory Birth Certificate which states that the currently installed engine is in fact the very same engine this car left with from the VW factory way back in 1958! The Vehicles 3rd owner did a lot of work on this car including a rebuild and complete detailing of the original motor. The motor was built in 2012 and has very few miles on it since. The motor is rock solid reliable and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. All the 6Volt electricals are in working order with all systems intact. Including working OG radio, Dome light, Accessory Underhood light, Fog light, Extra Accessory Rear Stop light, Etc., Etc. A ton of money was spent on the suspension to ensure an extremely smooth ride for such a low ride height. And I ensure you that the ride is incredible. The front end is a 6" narrowed Adjustable Old Speed Axle beam with CB Performance Wide 5 disc brakes kit and Nitrogen shocks, the rear has the Drop Plates installed for a smooth lowered ride out back. This is one of the best riding lowered VW's I have ever driven!! This car rides on fully chromed 15x4.5 and 15x5.5 Empi Fuchs style wheels mounted on brand new premium tires. 135r15 Firestones up front and 205/65r15 Continentals out back. Well, I'm sure there is a ton more I forgot to mention. So just give me a call if you have questions. Charlie (562)413-1383 I'm very reluctant to sell the car as I know cars like this are getting increasingly harder to find. This '58 Ragtop is a very special car with a lovely patina (that you cannot create without time). The cosmetics are NOT showcar quality but if you love cars with awesome Patina and "Real Character" that are rock solid reliable and totally useable, than this is the car and you'll love it!! Oh, and I forgot to mention it has no rust (pan is incredible too!). It's a California Car, remember? *** A few notes.....The Roof Rack is Not Included in the sale. The car will come with it's original San Diego Motor Imports Lic Frame (NOT the Lakewood motors frame) Also I will re-install the yellow fog light that came with the car when I purchased it. This car will be SOLD AS-IS!! No warranty expressed or implied. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time if the vehicle is no longer available. Please, Please, ask any and all questions prior to making any bids. I will answers all questions if you call or email me. If you call and I cannot answer, I will get back to you ASAP. For those very familar, you already know. The engine in the car is original to the car. It is a 36HPengine. The trans is the original "crashbox trans" also. The car is NOT fast but will keep up with freeway speeds and will go all day at 65mph if neceesary. It starts up everytime and it's a BLAST to drive!! I am not disclosing the RESERVE. Please bid the most you are willing to pay and bid often as you want(LOL). Thanks for looking at my auction. 2020 Virtual Geneva Motor Show Editors' Picks
Fri, Mar 6 2020There may not have been an actual Geneva Motor Show this year, but there were still loads of car reveals that happened the week that the show would have happened. So we still wanted to highlight what our favorites of the would-be show. Our list of cars seemed to match the theme of the reveals, too, highlighting over-the-top supercars and forward thinking electric vehicles. Scroll down to see our favorites. Fifth Place: Aston Martin V12 Speedster - 21 points Managing Editor, Greg Rasa: Astons are works of art, and this one's ready for the Louvre. The design nods to Aston history are nifty. It looks like a jet fighter, except those have canopies. Not sure what 186 mph would be like in this, but don't try it in summer when there are bugs. Contributing Editor, Joe Lorio: Admittedly, this one is a little silly. A $950,000 sports car with no roof? A 700-hp two-seater with no windshield? But the offerings at the Geneva auto show have always tilted toward absurdity, and Aston’s V12 Speedster is endearingly outrageous as a fighter plane for the street. Third Place (Tie): Volkswagen ID.4 - 26 points Senior Producer, Chris McGraw: I don't have much to say about this other than I am a huge fan of more EVs coming to the market, which is why two-thirds of my picks are electric, including the ID.4. Producer, Alex Malberg: Any new fully-electric crossover is a vote for me. The fact it doesn't look terrible and VW will be including AWD later are bonuses. Third Place (Tie): Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio GTA - 26 points Road Test Editor, Zac Palmer: Hard to argue with the logic of this one. The Giulia Quadrifoglio is already the best driver in this class of hot sedans, so why not extend the lead with a special model. That wing is Type R levels of high, and I completely approve. Associate Editor, Byron Hurd: Love this car. Love it, love it, love it. It's beautiful, aggressive and fast. I'd take it over an M3 or C63 any day. As cool as the GTAm is, though, I'd rather stick to the four-seat GTA. Something about a four-door car with two seats just doesn't really work for me. I haven't alienated ALL of my friends quite yet. Second Place: Hyundai Prophecy - 35 points Senior Editor, Green, John Snyder: I get whiffs of the Genesis Coupe from this sleek concept. I like the focus on form, with interesting details to discover if you look for them. West Coast Editor, James Riswick: Does it look like a Porsche? Sure, but Porsches look neat.
Updated J.D. Power APEAL study shines on VW Group, Chevy
Wed, 24 Jul 2013J.D. Power has just revealed the results of its 2013 APEAL Study, which looks at which brands have the most appealing cars based on sales figures, dealer inventory, brand loyalty, transaction and trade-in prices. The study was revamped for 2013, and places a larger focus on the new tech and infotainment options available to customers. All told, study participants gauged their vehicles on 77 different attributes, delivering a score out of a 1,000 points.
The Volkswagen Group had the greatest success of any corporation, topping the APEAL rankings with the Audi Allroad, Porsche Boxster, Porsche Cayenne, VW GTI and Passat. Chevrolet had the highest number of awards for a single brand, though, with the Avalanche, Sonic and Volt all taking home a prize.
The best brand overall was Porsche, which scored 884 out of a possible 1,000 points. The top Japanese brand was Lexus with a score of 847, while the top American brand was Cadillac, at 841. The best mainstream brand was Ram, which received a very respectable 817. The industry average for this year's study was 795, with 16 brands, all of which were mainstream, falling below the average.
