1958 VW Volkswagen Beetle Convertible Up for auction is this beautiful
1958 Beetle Convertible. This vehicle has been in the family for more than
40 years and on the road for only a few of those years. As you can see from the
pictures this vehicle is in nearly flawless condition. Let me share with you a
few details about this car. As I stated, this car has seen very little driving since the
late 60s early 70s. From the time it spent sitting in high-and-dry storage it
was in need of a complete restoration. This restoration took place last year
and took nearly the entire year to complete. A few of the more important things
to note on this car is that it has ZERO
rust repair done to it because the car was rust-free top to bottom!
Chrome - All
chrome such as bumpers, handles, bezels, etc. are original and were re-chrome
plated. This is not a cheapo restoration. This is top-notch all the way.
Body - Again,
this 58 was a rust-free car so there is no need to wonder about the quality of
the panel repairs because none were needed. All of the sheet metal is original
VW with no aftermarket fenders or modifications. The car was completely
stripped inside and out to bare metal before refinishing it to its original
color. The paint shows incredibly well! If you are going to restore a car back
to its original color and that color is black, your paint shop better know what
they are doing and this team did. I cant say enough about the quality of the
work and the incredible job they did, which is why I chose not to go with a
body shop but an actual restoration shop for this most important step in the
overall project. The cost was considerably higher to go with them but the work
matches the price.
Interior - Simply
put... Beautiful. Original to this 58 Convertible was 2-tone leatherette in
coral red and sand beige. Many refer to it as salmon and off-white. Call it
what you will, either way it is still one of the most sought-after color
combinations. The carpeting is black loop with sewn piping. As with the body, no expense was spared and
it shows!
Chassis/transmission/engine/brakes
- The chassis is all original with everything being replaced to make it a
perfect daily drivable vehicle. Starting with the front beam, king and link
pins were not worn but were tight from sitting for so many years. To make it
drive and steer perfectly down the road I had both of them replaced with
original VW components. The transmission is the original unit and shifts
perfectly through the gears. All that was needed in this department was a fresh
oil change and new axle boots. The complete braking system was replaced front
to rear including new lines, hoses, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, hardware
kits and shoes. The engine is a #s matching, completely rebuilt (by Doug
Nichols, a 50+ year factory VW mechanic) and correct 36HP. The motor was not
only rebuilt but so was every component on the motor including the carburetor,
distributor, fuel pump, and generator. Again, as with everything else on the car, no
expense was spared here either and everything shows perfectly!
A few other things to mention... tires are brand new, mounted on correct matching '58 wheels which boast the 15" convertible beauty rings and large logo hub caps. The Convertible top as well as headliner are also brand new and original color coded to match this '58. The original book which came with the car is included. The front cover is detached - otherwise it is in good condition.
If you are looking for a 100% completely restored daily
driver, this is the car to strongly consider. This car has less than 250 miles
since it was restored. There is no visible wear on the brake, clutch or gas pedals. Everything on the car works properly as it was intended to from the factory and
it drives down the road very well.
Feel free to ask any questions regarding this superb vehicle
and I will answer them to the best of my ability or pass them on to the
restoration shop or VW mechanic.
The reserve price is set according to true/realistic market
value and is a reasonable number for the quality of the car. I will not pull
the auction for a buy-it-now price. I want to keep this fair for all interested
parties.
If you are bidding on this vehicle and will need it to be shipped to your location, I will assist with the shipping in any way possible on my end. HOWEVER, I will NOT set up the shipping for you.
If you are close enough to come inspect this Beetle first-hand, feel free to set up a day and time to come look at it.
Please note: If you do not have the cash in hand to complete this sale, please do not bid on my auction.

Child cobalt miners: Automakers pledge ethical minerals sourcing for EVs
Wed, Nov 29 2017BERLIN - Leading carmakers including Volkswagen and Toyota pledged on Wednesday to uphold ethical and socially responsible standards in their purchases of minerals for an expected boom in electric vehicle production. Demand for minerals such as cobalt, graphite and lithium is forecast to soar in the coming years as governments crack down on vehicle pollution and carmakers step up their investments in electric models. To cover its plans for more than 80 new models by 2025, Volkswagen alone is looking for partners in China, Europe and North America to provide battery cells and related technology worth more than 50 billion euros ($59 billion). Talks with major cobalt producers, including Glencore, at VW's Wolfsburg headquarters last week ended without a deal. More than half of the world's cobalt comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country racked by political instability and legal opacity, and where child labor is used in mines. On Wednesday, a group of 10 leading passenger-car and truck manufacturers announced an initiative to jointly identify and address ethical, environmental, human and labor rights issues in raw materials sourcing. The partnership dubbed "Drive Sustainability" consists of VW, Toyota Motor Europe, Ford, Daimler, BMW, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo Cars and truckmakers Scania and Volvo. The alliance "will assess the risks posed by the top raw materials (such as mica, cobalt, rubber and leather) in the automotive sector," said Stefan Crets of the CSR Europe business network. "This will allow Drive Sustainability to identify the most impactful activities to pursue" to address issues within the supply chain.Reporting by Andreas Cremer.Related Video: Image Credit: Michael Robinson Chavez/The Washington Post via Getty Images Green BMW Ford Honda Jaguar Land Rover Mercedes-Benz Automakers Toyota Volkswagen Volvo Green Automakers Green Culture Electric Scania ethics mining
J.D. Power customer survey of dealers counts Cadillac, Buick as big winners
Mon, 14 Apr 2014Cadillac and Buick have taken the trophies in J.D. Power's latest Customer Service Index Study examining satisfaction with dealer service. Surveying more than 90,000 owners and lessees of 2009-2013 model-year cars, the study found that those with pre-paid maintenance packages were ten percent more likely to buy their next car from the same brand.
Dealer satisfaction scores have improved overall, Cadillac nabbed the luxury segment ahead of Audi and Lexus, taking the crown that Lexus held last year. Buick keeps the mass-market dealer satisfaction win in the family, finishing ahead of Volkswagen and last year's winner GMC. The study also found that service department use of tablets increased customer satisfaction, as did "best practices" like "providing helpful advice." Who knew?
You can find details on those and more findings in the press release below.
The super-sized Atlas isn't the three-row VW should build
Fri, Dec 2 2016In the late '50s and early '60s the Volkswagen Beetle wasn't ubiquitous in my hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska, but it came pretty damn close. Fords and Chevys dominated, but beyond the occasional MG, Triumph, or Renault the import scene was essentially a VW scene. When my folks finally pulled the trigger on a second car they bought a Beetle, and that shopping process was my first exposure to a Volkswagen showroom. For our family VW love wasn't a cult, but our '66 model spoke as did all Volkswagens and most imports at the time Β of a return to common sense in your transportation choice. As VW's own marketing so wonderfully communicated, you didn't need big fins or annual model changes to go grab that carton of milk. Or, for that matter, to grab a week's worth of family holiday. In the wretched excess that was most of Motown at the time, the Beetle, Combi, Squareback, and even Karmann Ghia spoke to a minimal Β but never plain Β take on transportation as personal expression. Fifty years after that initial Beetle exposure, and as a fan of imports for what I believe to be all of the right reasons, the introduction of Volkswagen's Atlas to the world market is akin to a sociological gut punch. How is it that a brand whose modus operandi was to be the anti-Detroit could find itself warmly embracing Detroit and the excess it has historically embodied? Don't tell me it's because VW's Americanization of the Passat is going so well. To be fair, the domestic do-over of import brands didn't begin with the new Atlas crossover. Imports have been growing fat almost as long as Americans have, and it's a global trend. An early 911 is a veritable wisp when compared to its current counterpart, which constitutes Β coincidentally Β a 50-year gestation. In comparing today's BMW 3 Series to its' '77 predecessor, I see a 5 Series footprint. And how did four adults go to lunch in the early 3 Series? It is so much smaller than what we've become accustomed to today; the current 2 Series is more substantial. My empty-nester-view of three-row crossovers is true for most shoppers: If you need three rows of passenger capacity no more than two or three times a year Β and most don't Β rent it forgawdsake. If you do need the space more often, consider a minivan, which goes about its three-row mission with far more utility (and humility) than any SUV.
