1957 Vw Beetle Classic on 2040-cars
Riverside, California, United States
I’m selling my 1957 VW because I have bought too many cars and I need to thin out the herd. Insurance and registration is breaking my pocket book. This is what I know about the history of this car. It was restored in 1998 in Kingman Az. It was sold to a family in Costa Mesa Ca. It was next sold to a family in Huntington Beach who then moved to Sacramento Ca. The owner lost interest in it and that’s when I purchased it, that was 2010. When I got it, it didn’t run well and I discovered it had gotten water in the heads. I tore down the motor and inspected it. The lower end looked good so I put new pistons and liners, new valve springs and did a complete valve job and installed cromoly push rods. It runs great now. The pan has one rust spot, see pictures. It is located at the back of the pan on the passenger side in front of the rear wheel. Kind of an odd place, it almost looks like someone cut a square hole and water got in there and rusted the edges. It also has a hole by the battery where the positive battery cable shorted out and burnt a hole, see pictures, you can see the hole in the picture of the battery right above the fuse holder. Other than those two small issues the body and pan are solid. The paint is 16 years old and has many areas of cracking. It also has a few spots on the hood that need repaired, a ladder came off a construction truck driving down the road and landed on the car. It also hit the roof, that spot has been repaired. It also has VW hood syndrome were someone tried to close the hood without releasing the support. It’s not bad but it’s there. The headliner needs replaced, it was never installed properly. The carpet is worn, no holes but doesn’t stand up anymore. The upholstery looks good but is also 16 years old. The dash was welded up buy the previous owner and all new gauges installed. I just hooked up the speedometer last year so the mileage only shows 450. All gauges and lights work as they should. It has a small oil leak from the motor and a small oil leak from the transmission, just enough to be annoying. It has a Kenwood radio backed by a 300 watt Boston gt24 amp. Car is sold as is, buyer is responsible for shipping. Car is available for inspection. I will be happy to answer any questions. Thanks for looking.

VW Up Buggy may be headed to showrooms
Tue, 02 Jul 2013Volkswagen showed six conceptual takes on its Up at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, one of those being the Up Buggy. Although few will probably remember it, VW has not forgotten it, applying for a patent for the Meyers Manx revival roadster way back in March 2012 and being approved in June of this year, according to a report in Autocar. That will give the automaker a 14-year lock on the design while it decides whether to move forward with a reboot of its past.
A patent doesn't mean the Up Buggy will ever move beyond the sheet-of-paper stage, but Autocar says VW is studying the market to see if a production version is feasible. We can't see North America ever getting it, but even so, we wouldn't complain if they made it - especially if they put an exposed engine in back that was set off by 18-inch-long twin tailpipes jutting straight up into the air. However, for a company that aims to be the world's number-one automaker by 2018, a niche vehicle for its mass-market brand would be a surprising use of resources.
TRANSLOGIC 150: Volkswagen XL1
Mon, Feb 24 2014How do you build the world's most fuel-efficient production car? Start with the world's most aerodynamic design. The Volkswagen XL1 is capable of 261 miles per gallon thanks to its sleek shape and ultra efficient plug-in diesel hybrid powertrain. The downside is that only 250 will be made and none will be sold stateside. That didn't stop us from taking our turn behind the wheel of this truly revolutionary ride.
UAW angered over VW workers getting right to defend anti-union vote
Thu, 13 Mar 2014The United Auto Workers have called a decision by the National Labor Relations Board allowing anti-UAW employees at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga the right to defend voting down unionization at the plant "an outrage."
You'll recall that the union was defeated by a vote of 712 to 626 in a contentious February election. The UAW claims the outcome was unfairly swayed by pro-business, anti-union forces, including Senator Bob Corker and political advocate Grover Norquist.
This new decision by the NLRB essentially gives workers backed by the anti-UAW National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation and Southern Momentum a formal voice in the impending hearing on the UAW's appeal of the vote.
