1955 Volkswagen Baja (black Widow) on 2040-cars
Olympia, Washington, United States
This is a fun Baja. Has small repair done in both front wheel wells (see pics). 15ft paint job. It has some runs and body work is rough. Body has some very small dings. Interior has some wear and tear. For a 55 it is in great shape. Odometer reads 30k, but it only goes to 99k so I'm sure it has passed 100k once or twice. Many additions were placed on this car. Converted to 12V. Windshield washer with electric pump. Blinkers with auto shut off. Fuel gauge. Hood hinges with springs. KC side lights. After market transaxle has taller hardened gears so it cruises at 70mph. Trans is strapped to prevent breakage when driving off-road. Motor was built to a 2110cc and has the new EMPI 2 barrel so none of those Weber problems. Skid plate installed under motor and trans. Fuel tank is in the rear of the car with a quality fuel door installed. Also fuel relay behind driver seat allows the fuel to be shut off or switched to an additional tank. The wiring has been gone through and well organized with a new fuse block. Electrical all seems to be in good working order (horn too). Spare set of rims and tires are great in the snow. They have less than 200 miles on them. The Club and a fire extinguisher are included. History: It was purchased in California. The family drove it for many years and gave it to their son. He got in a front end accident in the 70's. He then turned it into a Baja. Made a few trips into Baja California (tags are still in the window). They moved to Oregon and eventually gave it to their son in the early 2000's. That's when they replaced the trans and motor. He joined the Marines and left it at a friends in Washington where it sat from 2005 until 2012. I bought it January of 2013 and performed some TLC to get it back on the road. I drive it a few times a week. I prefer Paypal, but other types work too. Buyer is responsible for shipping, but I can help with arrangements. |

VW will need to recall 323,700 diesel vehicles in India
Wed, Dec 2 2015Volkswagen Group's diesel emissions scandal continues to spread, and now the automaker must recall 323,700 diesel vehicles in India because of too much pollution, according to Bloomberg. The campaign covers models from several of the group's brands including VW, Audi, and Skoda. The Automotive Research Association of India first discovered the emissions irregularities after conducting its own real world and lab tests, and the Indian government then commanded VW to explain what was happening. The country's regulators will allow the automaker to set the recall schedule for the repairs, according to a government official who spoke to Bloomberg, and the campaign will likely happen in phases. Among the affected vehicles, there will be about 100,000 from the VW brand including the Jetta, Passat, and some variants of the Polo. VW already has repairs for some of the affected diesel engines in Europe, and the company can allegedly fix the emissions problem with new software and small hardware changes. The situation is harder in the US where regulators still need to approve any proposed solutions, and VW also must now recall its 3.0-liter V6 TDI in California to eliminate other problematic code. The German automaker faces investigations from regulators all over the world into its emissions evasions, and they could be quite costly. One estimate already suggests the minimum price of the potential repairs, fines, and other expenses at about $24.5 billion. Officials in Brazil have already fined the company $13 million for pollution issues with the diesel Amarok pickup and requested a recall to fix them.
VW readying two-row CUV concept for Detroit
Wed, Dec 10 2014We're likely getting yet another glimpse of Volkswagen's future crossover at the upcoming 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, in January. According to Automotive News, two anonymous sources within the automaker indicate a CUV concept will be shown there. The concept is said to be a five-passenger preview of the brand's future seven-seat model. Previous versions of the crossover have carried the name CrossBlue (pictured above), but there was no indication whether or not that would continue. The original three-row concept debuted at the 2013 auto show in Detroit, and VW followed it up with the CrossBlue Coupe Concept in Shanghai later that year. In early 2014, the company announced the CUV would go into production sometime in 2016, along with plans to invest $7 billion in North America over the next five years. During the summer, the automaker made things even more official when it declared plans to invest $900 million to build a 538,000-square-foot expansion into its Chattanooga, TN, factory to assemble the new model. Production of the crossover was slated to begin by the end of 2016, at the time. According to Automotive News, even more changes in VW's CUV lineup are on the way. The Tiguan is reportedly getting an update next year that could be joined by coupe and long-wheelbase variants, as well.
VW says it has sold over 100,000 TDI diesels in America this year
Thu, 26 Dec 2013Volkswagen Group of America has lit oil-burning fireworks to celebrate the sales of more than 100,000 TDI Clean Diesel vehicles in the US between its VW and Audi brands this year. According to VW, that means it is responsible for more than 75 percent of diesel-engined cars and SUVs sold here - perhaps not surprising when the two brands offer a total of 12 diesel models.
What might be surprising is that the number of diesels isn't far off the estimated sales of 90,000 battery electric vehicles and PHEVs, with 15,000 of those accounted for by the Tesla Model S, another 12,000 or so being the Toyota Prius PHEV.
VW's keen to play up the ease of making diesel part of your life, stressing that it doesn't need any change to the refueling infrastructure and that "this is a technology delivering real answers to society's concerns about fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions without compromises."
