Selling my project of the past 6 months.

When I picked this bug up it needed a lot of love, no interior, bad paint job, and not running. I was excited to find out the original color was harvest gold - it had been repainted an ugly green color from what looked like during the 80s or 90s.

The car has a whole new floor pan installed was the first thing I did, not just patch panels - a whole new floor. The bottom has been undercoated.

I spent $2000 restoring the paint to its original color. All the body pieces were taken off so there is no overspray on anything! I wouldn't consider it show quality because it does have imperfections, but it is a very nice driver!

Next I got new tires, new door panels (black), a used set of seats, new top, new starter, new fender beading, new carburetor, and a used engine (still have the number matching engine if you want it included - didnt run well I think it got hot)

Shes a nice driver, starts up everytime. The engine is from a 74 karmann ghia and has a little bit of smoke on start up if you let her sit for awhile. She drives great around town, havent gone on any long trips so please use your own judgement if you want to drive it across country after the auction.

All the lights work no issues with them, windshield wipers work, brakes are good.

The bug needs hood hinges I have one on there, but the other one got lost during paint.
Also I think they sent me the wrong carpet kit it doesnt fit real good
Other then that as far as issues the top needs a little bit of help lining up with the windows (I always park it in the garage so havent worried about it leaking)
And last it needs a stereo - I think thats all for the issues

In 1974, 12,964 VW Bug convertibles were produced, with only around 300 of them sun bugs! Unfortunately it is missing the original seats and door panels (they are supposed to be brown)
But all the other signs are there, Sun Gold Metallic original paint, rosewood dash trim, January 1974 production date (every sun bug convert ive researched was built then), Simulated leather 4 spoke steering wheel, and black vin tag.

Get ready for fun this summer with this VW bug!

Please email if you are local and would like to check it out! Please place bid while you can - will not accept higher offers after the end of auction. Thanks for looking

Don't buy that crossover! Buy a cladded wagon instead!

Fri, Nov 10 2017

If you're looking to buy a car soon, and you're like most Americans, there's a strong chance you're considering buying a crossover SUV. That's what people want nowadays. People like the tough, tall exterior that suggests adventure and preparedness, they like the high seating position, they like the all wheel drive many have and they like the practicality. Because of this, crossovers have rapidly supplanted typical cars such as sedans, wagons, and more as the most popular vehicles in the country. But they're compromised, too. They're often heavy, thirsty, and expensive compared with more conventional cars. The good news is, there's an alternative, a happy medium between the straight crossover and the traditional car. They're lifted wagons, and they're the best crossover SUVs around. And for those who may not know what we're talking about, we're talking about cars and wagons that have been given a suspension lift for more ground clearance and a higher ride height, and often have all wheel drive standard or optional. They also usually have chunky plastic body cladding to make them look tough and durable. Examples include the Subaru Crosstrek, Audi A4 Allroad, Buick Regal TourX, and Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, among others. Because of the suspension and body modifications, these vehicles fit the trendy crossover mold quite well. And in the case of long-running nameplates such as the Subaru Outback and Volvo Cross Country models, they even have some heritage as outdoorsy machines. They also provide the higher driving position that crossover buyers love. And in some cases, such as with the Golf Alltrack, we've learned they offer better ride quality than their road-oriented siblings. View 9 Photos So these tall wagons offer the key things crossover buyers want, but what makes them better than traditional crossovers is that they have the advantages of the cars they're based on. For instance, the aforementioned Golf Alltrack still drives mostly like a Golf, which is to say, it's nimble, feels peppy, and is easy to maneuver because of its relatively small size. We can't really say the same for the Tiguan, which feels generally more sluggish and uninteresting than the Alltrack. And we mention Volkswagen's compact crossover because it starts at nearly the same price as the Alltrack. Some of the difference in giddy-up can be explained by weight. Normal crossovers can be fairly portly, while these lifted wagons are notably lighter.

VW Jetta TDI Value Edition drops price of diesel ownership to $21,295*

Wed, 08 Jan 2014

Getting a new diesel-powered car just got a bit easier. Volkswagen has announced a new Jetta TDI Value Edition for 2014 that trims over $2,000 off the starting price of a Jetta TDI, making the most affordable diesel-powered car in America even more so. Prices start at $21,295 (*plus $820 for destination) for a Value Edition with a six-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed dual-clutch automatic adds $1,100 to the price. For that money, owners will get 140 horsepower, 236 pound-feet of torque and 42 miles per gallon on the freeway.
Despite the lower price and being down on content versus the previous base Jetta TDI, the Value Edition does come quite well equipped, with standard heated cloth seats, a six-speaker stereo with a Media Device Interface, satellite radio, and one-touch, up-down power windows on all four doors. Customers will be giving up some notable stuff though, including tilt/telescopic steering, Bluetooth streaming audio, power seats and a multi-function steering wheel.
Still, if you're aching to get your hands on a new TDI, this is now the most affordable way to do it. We suspect having the lower MSRP will help the German manufacturer make even further diesel-powered inroads here in the States, a land where they cleared their decks of over 100,000 TDI models in 2013.

Jalopnik and Consumer Reports see who can pull off the best snow drift

Fri, Feb 20 2015

The weather throughout much of the United States is pretty awful at the moment with some combination of extremely low temperatures, inches of snow and maybe some ice underneath it all. The folks at Jalopnik and Consumer Reports are making the absolute best out of a difficult situation by heading to CR's snow-covered test track and attempting to make the longest drift in a quartet of very different performance vehicles. Jalopnik brought along a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon, a Subaru WRX STI, a BMW 228i and a 1973 Volkswagen Baja Bug (heck yeah!) for the challenge. Also, the track was perfect for this group, with a mix of packed snow in places and still a few inches of unsullied powder in spots too. Ostensibly the goal was to get the tail to step out through a particular corner, but in reality this was more about having hilarious fun in the snow with fast cars. The result just looks like the best time humanly possible in this weather.
