Charlton, Massachusetts, United States

1994 Totota Xtra Cab 4x4 for sale.   2.5 liter 22RE fuel injected 4 cylinder.   5 speed manual transmission mated to a manual shift transfer case.   This is a Hilux, not Tacoma.   168,0000 miles.  Less than 20k miles on replacement clutch, less than 2k miles on NEW 33x10.5x15" all terrain tires with deep tread.  5" Rough Country lift.   Winter 2009 saw replacement used lower A-arms and new bushings, new lower ball joints and new front CV shafts.  Summer 2012 saw a new clutch slave cylinder.  Comes with rack, steel brush guard and 6 1/2' Western plow with mount. Warn manual lockout hubs.  Wooden bed and tailgate.

Summer 2011 frame from doors back was clad entirely in 3/16" new plate steel including new: cross members, shock mounts, gas tank mounts, rear leaf spring hangers and bushings and rear body mounts.  New brake mater cylinder and new rear brake lines at that time.  This frame is far more solid than the day it came from the factory.

Parking brake cable needs to be connected.  Hole in rocker panel on driver's side needs to be patched.  Plow hydraulics need adjusting, I haven't used it in several years.  The plow controls are around here somewhere, I'll have to find them.  No reverse lights installed.  Rear tail light wiring kinda Mickey Moused, but it worked when I took it off the road one month ago.  Wooden bed and tailgate need a few screws, etc.

This is an EXCELLENT, reliable truck.   It starts, runs and drives very well.   With just a little work it'll continue to be a great performing work truck.  The new tires alone were just under $800.   4x4 works mint.  I have driven this truck from West Virginia to Massachusetts numerous times and it runs great.  I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere.  Selling only because I just got a F-350 diesel.   Clear West Virginia title in hand.  Truck is located in Arthurdale WV, 26520.

$3200 or best cash offer.   $500.00 deposit due within 48 hours after auction's end,  $150.00 not  refundable.   Truck is for sale locally, and I reserve the right to end the auction early.  No shipping available, the winner will have to come here to get it.  It's neither insured nor registered, so I can't drive it on the open road.   Truck can be test driven up my street and the 4x4 tested on my property.

Toyota pondering high-performance GT86 hybrid?

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

From what Autocar has to say, Toyota has even more plans for the GT86 beyond the convertible concept we just saw at the Geneva Motor Show. Along with a planned midcycle facelift, Toyota is reportedly looking at how to pack some extra ponies under the coupe's hood, and while there has already been a lot of talk about superchargers and turbochargers, it sounds like a performance-boosting hybrid system could also be in the works.
Talking to Toyota chief engineer Tetsuya Tada, Autocar has learned that the automaker is considering an electrical motor assist for the sporty coupe to improve performance without harming fuel economy. In attempting to keep weight - and, presumably, costs - down, the article mentions the use of a system closer to what Honda uses for its Integrated Motor Assist rather than a full Hybrid Synergy Drive system used in current Toyota hybrids. Tada says the added weight of the system could be offset by weight reduction, while aerodynamic changes and a lower center of gravity could improve the car's handling.
No word yet on whether a mild hybrid system would find its way to North America's Scion FR-S - let alone its Subaru BRZ twin - but the thought is certainly an intriguing one.

Lexus eschews production in China over quality concerns

Sat, 03 May 2014

One of the more popular trends in the auto industry is setting up production operations in China. Mainstream manufacturers like Ford, General Motors and Volkswagen have done it, and even luxury marques like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have or will soon have manufacturing ops in the People's Republic.
One company that isn't building cars in China, though, is Lexus. The Toyota-owned luxury brand still manufactures all of its vehicles in Japan (aside from a few RXs, which are built at a Toyota factory in Canada). According to Tokuo Fukuichi, Lexus just isn't ready to build cars there yet.
"The German Three have a brand image that they have cultivated over the past century in their long history, but Lexus is not in people's minds like that yet," Fukuichi-san told Reuters UK.

Toyota recalls 690,000 Tacoma trucks for rusty leaf springs, fire risk

Mon, 29 Sep 2014

Toyota has announced that it will be issuing a recall of 690,000 Tacoma pickups from model years 2005 through 2011. The affected vehicles include both the four-wheel-drive model and the two-wheel-drive PreRunner (but not the standard 4x2 pickups), which may have a rather serious problem with their rear suspensions.
In some cases, corrosion and stress could cause one of the three or four leaves in the rear suspension's leaf springs to fracture. While the trucks can still be driven with a broken leaf, Toyota is concerned that it could move out of position and impact other components in the rear of the truck, with a particular focus on the fuel tank. Needless to say, but a piece of metal continuously impacting anything, let alone the fuel tank, is cause for concern.
As of this writing, there have been no reports of crashes, injuries, fires or deaths due to this problem, although that won't stop Toyota from informing all affected customers of the issue. Those 690,000 owners will need to report in to dealers for inspections and, if necessary, repairs.
