2001 Toyota Tacoma Xtra Cab 4wd ... With Rusted Frame on 2040-cars
Richmond, Indiana, United States
2001 Toyota Tacoma Xtra Cab 4WD 4Cyl 2.7 Engine (This truck has the noted frame rusted ... (see pics) ) Its a clean 4WD Truck ...and currently drives...but I hear noises from the rear bed that sound as if its moving around. I'd be afraid to drive it any distances with the frame the way it is. I guess it may go 20 miles...or 2000 miles like that...but I wouldn't recommend it. Engine is a 4 cylinder 2.7 with No strange sounds nor noises. Sounds just like my wifes 2003 model. (Except the muffler) It does have a Clear/Clean Title ...stating only "mileage exempt" ...the guy I bought it from said that goes on vehicles that have over 100,000 miles ... but Ive never heard of it before. I haven't driven it far since Ive had it. I'd be a bit leary to...But everything seems to work...ie the A/C, the 4WD, etc. It sounds a bit loud when you rev the engine...though the muffler has a hole in it I guess someone with welding experience might be able to reinforce the frame. But, not being from that line of work.. It's just a guess. I looked and you can still borrow about 8000.00 on this truck No warranty expressed nor implied. Or..I guess someone could just use it for parts...but that seems a shame. Because otherwise its a Great looking truck !! I would also consider upgrading the rims and tires to a full set of mounted and balanced Michelin 265/70/16 with very good tread ..Mounted on a very clean set of MB Razor Rims for an additional 350.00. See Pics above Thx for Looking!! Just listed this locally as well ... So I'll have to Reserve the ability to end auction early if ... someone shows up with the cash http://richmondin.craigslist.org/cto/4596005416.html ... |

VW is world's second-best-selling automaker, GM falls to third
Thu, 30 Jan 2014Every year when we start talking about which automaker is the biggest in the world, there always seems to be at least a little bit of controversy. For 2013, Toyota handily took the top spot with 9.98 million sales, but it's the runner up spot between General Motors and Volkswagen that is starting to create a stir.
Based on our earlier report, GM's 9.71 million vehicles put it in second place ahead of VW's 9.5-million-vehicle effort. Now, The Detroit News is reporting that VW is claiming a tally of 9.73 million sales, including figures from MAN and Scania - heavy-duty truck divisions under the VW AG family. The article points out that Toyota's sales figure includes its Hino line of trucks, but these might still be considered light-duty vehicles while MAN and Scania build tractor trailers.
Lost power in a winter storm? Just hook up a Toyota Prius like this guy did
Thu, Jan 9 2014The Toyota Prius' battery pack just got something like a five-star rating from a truly seasoned professional – a 50-year aircraft technician. Bob Osemlak, who'd served more than three of those five decades with the Canadian Air Force, brought electricity back to his home in December during a heavy ice storm thanks to his gas-electric car. His ingenuity allowed him to turn on lights, furnace, refrigerator and the TV. The Thornhill, Ontario resident lost power for nearly a day on December 21 – not nearly as much as millions of other people hit by the recent storm - and so he still set about using his Prius for backup power, according to EV World. His ingenuity allowed him to turn on lights, furnace, refrigerator and the TV. Being an aircraft technician for so long brought Osemlak the ability to home-brew his V2H set-up that he urges other people to avoid, for safety reasons. He had planned for a potential power outage by installing an outlet on his furnace and, when the storm struck, he ran a cord through the basement window to the car. During the nine hours Osemlak used his Prius for backup power, the car's fuel gauge only reduced less than one bar, or roughly the equivalent of a gallon of gasoline. It wasn't the first time Osemlak had played with his vehicle. In the 1960s, while stationed in Winnepeg, Manitoba, he created a car starter. Every hour, the car would start up and run for 10 minutes to avoid being frozen solid in frigid winter temperatures. 10 automakers shack up in Detroit hotel to talk Takata airbags
Sun, Dec 14 2014Since Takata has decided not to take the lead concerning potential issues with its airbag inflators, the automakers have. Perhaps that's unsurprising, since it's the automakers, not Takata, that will take a beating on the dealership floor if consumers decide its models are a health hazards. The Detroit News reports that Toyota, Honda, General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Subaru met in a hotel conference room near the Detroit Metropolitan Airport last week to sort out a way to understand the technical issues involved. So far, faulty airbag inflators have been ruled the cause of five deaths and 50 injuries around the world, but neither Takata nor investigators understands exactly why the inflators are malfunctioning. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently asked Takata to issue a national recall, Takata declined, citing a minuscule failure rate and the fact that it's still investigating the issue. Toyota and Honda then made an industry-wide appeal for "a coordinated, comprehensive testing program" that would pinpoint the problem inflators and get them replaced, and that's what the Detroit meeting was about. Numerous issues, however, will make this a long row to hoe: simply getting the parts to replace the nearly 20 million inflators in cars recalled around the world so far - even working with other suppliers - will take a years, but more importantly, no one knows if the replacement inflators currently being installed will suffer the same issue. Answers will hopefully come quickly with Takata, the ten automakers and NHTSA all independently investigating the problem.
