OH What a find!!!

To find this model truck which has been acclaimed for many years as one of the best 4X4 mini trucks and by now almost all have hundreds of thousands of miles on them or have been turned into "rock crawlers" with most of the body parts removed and huge tires installed to climb the sides of mountains. This truck has the original 22R engine with a Weber carburetor, original paint and stripes, drive train and comes with air conditioning and power steering.
In 1982 this model truck had only been out for two years and they were getting driven off the showroom floor faster than the dealers could have them shipped in with special orders on every desk. The stout suspension was often blamed for the bouncy ride but the fault actually lies with the seat design which was simply upholstery on top of springs. I took the liberty of installing power leather seats out of a newer model Toyota 4runner and the truck now rides and drives like a new Toyota  Tacoma without the previous set of bounces after hitting a simple bump in the road. I am including the original seats which are in flawless condition. After I purchased the truck I put on original sized rims and BF Goodrich All Terrain tires, Kenwood CD player with IPOD capability, Alpine speakers and remote control, new brakes all the way around, custom shift knobs which match the color and the truck's year (original knobs will be included), Please excuse the seat cover's fresh out of the box appearance, I will adjust them and hit them with a blow dryer to make them flatten out, just bought them today....
The base models of this series came with 4 speed transmissions and no power steering which made the driver need gorilla arms just to park it at the grocery store.
I have purchased a new stripe kit for the truck since father time and the sunshine haven't been very kind to the stripes and the paint has a few flaws but i haven't gotten around to having them installed, they will be included with the truck.
This truck will make a fine addition to any car collection, it turns heads wherever I go and I often find notes on the windshield from people wanting to buy the truck.

Toyota to end Australian production by 2017

Mon, 10 Feb 2014

There is more bad news for the Australian auto industry today, as Toyota has just announced that it will follow General Motors and Ford in shuttering its manufacturing operations on the continent. Production and assembly will cease by the end of 2017, but Toyota will remain in Australia as a sales and distribution company.
"We did everything that we could to transform our business, but the reality is that there are too many factors beyond our control that make it unviable to build cars in Australia," said Toyota Australia President and CEO Max Yasuda.
In an official statement, Yasuda said that the closure would directly affect 2,500 manufacturing employees and an unknown number of corporate workers. However, a report in the Australian newspaper The Age suggests that the jobs of 24,000 workers at Australian auto suppliers could also be in jeopardy. Toyota currently builds its Camry, Camry Hybrid, Aurion sedans in Australia, along with four-cylinder engines, and it plans to begin importing the Camry and Aurion after production stops.

BMW-Toyota sports car heading towards Tokyo debut

Mon, 20 May 2013

Earlier this year, BMW and Toyota confirmed a four-part joint venture mostly focusing on increasing improving vehicle efficiency using fuel cells, lightweight materials and better battery technology. Also tucked into the announcement was a "feasibility study" for a shared platform to underpin a future midsize "sports vehicle."
In terms of the latter, it seems that things have stepped up from the feasibility stage to the conceptual stage, as Motor Trend reports we could see a pair of new sports car concepts debut later this year in at the Tokyo Motor Show. There isn't much information about the new program, but the article suggests the sports cars could be all-wheel drive hybrids, with electric motors powering the front wheels and a gas engine powering the rear wheels. While a partnership between Toyota and BMW might not lend itself to a catchy portmanteau like "Toyobaru," here's hoping it will bear fruit that is as exciting as the ones produced by the Toyota/Subaru tie up.

Toyota nearing $1B settlement of unintended acceleration criminal probe

Sun, 09 Feb 2014

According to those all-too-nebulous "people familiar with the matter," Toyota is close to a settlement with the US federal government to end a criminal probe over its long-running unintended acceleration fiasco. Though Toyota has never admitted guilt, the deal could reportedly crest a billion dollars and would likely include a criminal deferred prosecution agreement, and while we're not legal experts, The Wall Street Journal explains that such a deal would "[force Toyota] to accept responsibility while avoiding the potentially crippling consequences of federal criminal convictions."
The report from WSJ also suggests that Toyota is facing charges that it "made false or incomplete disclosures" to various government agencies regarding possible defects to its cars. Such charges may include mail and wire fraud violations. Toyota has already paid out fines totaling $66.2 million to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration because it failed to report safety defects in a timely manner.
This deal with the federal government is not related to the billion-dollar class-action settlement reached with Toyota owners over falling vehicle values, and it's also different from the roughly 400 lawsuits still in courts alleging personal injury of wrongful death due to cases of unintended acceleration. In other words, don't expect to hear the end of such courtroom verdicts and settlements anytime soon...
