9/11/2014 UPDATE
TODAY AFTER WORK I ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW AND GOT A BROOM HANDLE TO TAP ON THE STARTER MOTOR WHILE TURNING THE KEY.  THIRD TAP AND IT STARTED CRANKING THE ENGINE.  I THEN STARTED THE CAR UP AFTER ABOUT 15 SECONDS OF CRANKING!!!  AFTER ANOTHER 30 SECONDS THE CAR'S IDLE LEVELED OFF AND SMOOTHED OUT!
WAIT IT GETS BETTER!!!
ICE COLD AIR CONDITIONING
DIGITAL DISPLAYS ON RADIO, CLIMATE CONTROLS, AND CLOCK ALL WORK PERFECTLY!!!
THE CAR IS LIKE A TIME CAPSULE
DROVE IT AROUND THE DRIVEWAY A LITTLE AND THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TIGHT AND RESPONSIVE.
THERE IS A VERY SMALL COOLANT LEAK AT THE BACK RIGHT SIDE OF THE BLOCK AT WHAT APPEARS TO BE A COOLANT PASSAGE THAT IS CAPPED OFF WITH A RUBBER CAP I THINK IT WAS USED FOR A TURBO CAR AND SINCE THIS IS THE BASE NATURALLY ASPIRATED MODEL IT IS JUST CAPPED OFF FROM THE FACTORY.  I HOPE TO GET THAT PIECE AND SOME FRESH COOLANT IN IT THIS WEEKEND, AND GET IT OUT ON THE OPEN ROAD FOR A MORE IN DEPTH TEST DRIVE.
I HAVE STARTED THE CAR ABOUT 6 MORE TIMES SO FAR AND THE BATTERY SEEMS TO BE WORKING JUST FINE.

ONE SMALL DENT ON TOP OF FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE FENDER
ONE SMALL DING ON RIGHT REAR QUARTER PANEL
ONE SPOT WHERE THE PAINT WAS KNOCKED OFF OF FRONT BUMPER COVER
CAR COVER AND BRA FOR FRONT END IS INCLUDED
THERE IS ALSO ONE VERY SMALL RIP IN THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT

Toyota confirms i-Road electric trike for production

Tue, 08 Oct 2013

The wacky, three-wheeled Toyota i-Road we saw in Geneva earlier this year will be heading to production. But before you run down to your local Toyota dealer looking for one of these all-electric "personal mobility" vehicles, chances are, you'll never actually see one unless you visit Japan.
Announced at the Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies (CEATEC) expo last week, Toyota said that the i-Road would be used as a part of the Ha:Mo car-sharing system in Japan. Weighing in at around 661 pounds, with a 28-mile-per-hour top speed and a two-passenger seating arrangement, the i-Road seems more like a fully enclosed scooter than a car, but it does offer a 30-mile driving range and has a nifty articulating front suspension that leans into corners. As for Ha:Mo, Toyota says that the number of cars in the program will increase from 10 prior to October 1 to 100 by the middle of this month, and the number of stations will almost double from 13 up to 21. Toyota has more details about the car and Ha:Mo in the press release posted below.

Toyota RAV4 "Adventure" brings the butch

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

Just last week, your humble author had a 2013 Toyota RAV4 in his garage, and he couldn't help noting that even in mid-level XLE trim, its aesthetics lacked oomph, due in large part to its cheap-looking black bumpers and airy-looking wheel wells. Judging by the RAV4 "Adventure" on display at the Geneva Motor Show, someone at Toyota must've been thinking the same thing.
With Japan's biggest automaker understandably focused on bigger reveals, information on this butched-up softroader has proven to be hard to come by, with no press materials whatsoever. We don't even know if this is a pure concept or if it's actually being considered for production. Either way, we approve. The 20-inch dark-finish alloys probably don't do much for ride quality, but they certainly look nicely aggressive, as does the new lower fascia with its prominent lower lip. Other changes include beefier wheel arches, side rails, headlamps with integrated LEDs, twin-element fog lamps and mesh grille inserts. All of the changes are quite well integrated - enough so that the Adventure largely avoids looking like a SEMA refugee in person.

KBB 2013 Brand Image Awards has some obvious and oddball winners

Sat, 30 Mar 2013

The sixth edition of the Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards have crowned a wide range of winners - in a couple of cases the recipient of the laurels might say more about KBB users than they do about the actual winner. Compiled from the responses of more than 12,000 shoppers on KBB.com over the past year, there are 13 categories broken into non-luxury, luxury and truck segments "representing the combined wisdom of the American car-buying public."
The award categories have been revamped this year, with some dropping off, some new ones appearing and at least one other given a new term. What isn't surprising is that Honda won Most Trusted Brand for the second year running, Best Value Brand for the third year in a row and took Best Overall Brand, which wasn't on last year's list of awards.
On our own shores, in the non-luxury categories Chrysler got Most Refined Brand and Buick took Best Value Luxury Brand. Neither one of those marques won anything in last year's Brand Image Awards, while Cadillac, which won Best Interior Design Brand and Best Comfort Brand last year - those awards disappeared this year - went home without a single accolade.
