The car still looks good for it's age and runs good.  It has a lot left to work with.  You will need to do some work on this car to drive it regularly.  I am still driving it now so the miles may go up a bit (but not a lot).  I have enjoyed this car for quite a few years, but I need to cut back on my car volume (I also have a 300ZX, a Stealth, a Barracuda, and a V8 Audi).

I have owned this car since 2007.  I had it in my garage from mid-2007 through 2011 because the turbo was was blown (loaned the car to a friend for 1 day).  The car developed a bad oil leak last winter, which I believe to be coming from the head gasket, although I haven't had it professionally looked at.  Since the oil does not get into the coolant and only leaks out of the engine, I have still been driving it and adding oil regularly.  Be aware that the car also needs a brake line replaced.  I have patched it with braided high pressure hose, but if you really push hard on the brake pedal it will leak.

I also have been keeping the overdrive off on the transmission so that the turbo will spool up quicker.  The transmission does not like to go in to overdrive now, potentially because I have left it turned off for so long.

TEMS working (this is the computer controled active suspension that adjusts base on throttle position and cornering.  The "Sport" and "Normal" switch doesn't always work, but the computer always reacts to your driving).
600 Watt Sony stereo amplifier in hatch
Turbo is upgraded to a T4 (from stock T3) which gives about an additional 35hp.   I have not increased the boost but with a boost controller and a racing head gasket, the engine could be at around 300hp.
Rear tires are Eagle GTs with less than 1000 miles on them (cost over $300 for both).  The fronts should be replaced soon, but probably have 3000-5000 miles left on them.
Has removable Targa top with the original removal key.  Targa top stows away in the hatch when driving (see pictures)

Hatch struts are bad (see wood shovel handle in pictures which is included)
Oil leak believed to be from Head Gasket leak (no coolant in oil, only oil leaking from engine)
Rear brake line leak has been patched with braided hose but needs to be replaced
Targa does leak some
Dent in driver's side rear from where a homeless guy kicked the car after I refused to give him a pizza (seriously)
Engine blows white smoke under heavy load and when started after sitting for a day or two.
Battery drains if not started for a week or so.
Ignition key is broken off in ignition so ignition key is shorter that normal (see picture).  2 ignition keys included.  Both doors and hatch re-keyed to regular key and 2 of those are included.
Ignition works intermittantly with key so push button ignition override installed (under steering wheel, turn key to on and press button).
Some rust over the rear wheel wells
Front bumper is no longer shinny (see pictures)
Seats have some rips and tears
Car has some scratches and scrapes plus a few door dings (see pictures)
Glove compartment lock is broken

Car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells.

Toyota sells six of 10 of hybrids in California

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

In an apparent shot back at Ford's increasing market share of electrified vehicles and claim that it accepts more Prius trade-ins for its own hybrids than any other car, Toyota has flexed a muscle and played the numbers game to put the Blue Oval in its place.
Leaning on its hybrid market dominance in California, the Japanese automaker stated that six out of 10 hybrids sold in the Golden State are Toyota models. And it keeps coming: Year-to-date through May 2013, Toyota sold five times more hybrids than Ford. One of every two hybrids in California is a Prius model. In addition, Toyota notes that it has sold 1.5 million Prius vehicles in the US, 90-percent of which are still on the road today.
Want more? We'll let Bill Fay, Toyota's group vice president and general manager of sales lay the smack down:

2017 North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year entries announced

Wed, Jul 6 2016

Over 40 vehicles will compete for the 2017 North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year awards. If that name looks a little strange, it's because the competition added a third category. In years past, pickup trucks, crossovers, SUVs, commercial vans, and minivans competed for the same award. That's why there were occasionally weird comparisons, like last year's competition between the Volvo XC90 and Nissan Titan XD. The new format separates pickups and commercial vans into the truck contest and CUVs, SUVs, and minivans into the utility competition. A complete list of eligible vehicles is below, but here are a few highlights. For one, the entire list of entries has a luxurious lean. Of the 43 vehicles, nearly half of them are from premium brands. There are two eligible Bentleys – the Bentayga and Mulsanne – the Rolls-Royce Dawn, Jaguar F-Pace, Audi Q7, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS-, E-, and S-Class Maybach. The performance ranks are lofty, too, with the Audi R8, Acura NSX, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Mercedes SL- and SLC-Class, Porsche 718, and F-150 Raptor. The mainstream entries are just as comprehensive. From the Chrysler Pacifica to the Chevrolet Cruze to the Fiat 124 Spider to the Mitsubishi Mirage, NACTOY has covered an enormous price range with this year's contestants. Of course, these are only the eligible vehicles. They'll need to run through three rounds of judging, starting in September at NACTOY's traditional Hell, MI, test drive. The Canadian and American journalists involved in the judging will announce this year's nine finalists – three in each category – on December 6. Why Toyota's fuel cell play is one big green gamble

Mon, Feb 3 2014

Imagine going to the ballet on Saturday evening for an 8 pm performance. The orchestra begins warming up shortly before the show, but it turns out the star performer isn't ready at the appointed time. The orchestra keeps playing, doing its best to keep the audience engaged and, most importantly, in the building. It keeps this up until the star finally shows and is ready to dance ... which turns out to be ten years later. That's a Samuel Beckett play. It's also how many observers, analysts, alt-fuel fans and alt-fuel intenders feel about the arrival of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) – the few of them who are still in the building, that is. Toyota's hydrogen development timeline rivals that of the US space program. In fact, within the halls of Toyota alone, research on FCVs has been going on for nearly 22 years, meaning that one company's development timeline for FCVs rivals that of the US space program – it was 1945 when Werner von Braun's team began re-assembling Germany's World War II V2 rockets and figuring out how to launch them into space and it wasn't until 1969 when a man set landing gear down on that sunlit lunar quarry. The development of the atom bomb only took half as long, and that's if we go all the way back to when Leo Szilard patented the mere idea of it, in 1934. Carmakers didn't give up on hydrogen in spite of the public having given up on carmakers ever making something of it, so there was a good chance that hydrogen criers announcing the mass-market adoption of periodic chart element number two one would eventually be right. Now is that time. And Toyota, not alone in researching FCVs but arguably having done the most to keep FCVs in the news, isn't even going to be first to market. That honor will go to Hyundai, surprising just about everyone at the LA Auto Show with news of a hydrogen fuel cell Tucson going on sale in the spring. The other bit of thunder stolen: while Toyota's talking about trying to get the price of its offering down to something between $50,000 and $100,000, Hyundai is pitching its date with the future at a lease price of $499 per month ($250 more than the lease price of a conventional Tucson), free hydrogen and maintenance, and availability at Enterprise Rent-A-Car if you just want to try it out. We've seen and driven Toyota's offering and we all know its success doesn't depend on cross-shopping, showroom dealing and lease sweeteners.
