Up for sale is my very original and beautiful 1983 Toyota Celica Supra P (performance) Type.  It is getting very difficult to find an original paint, unaltered and unmolested car of any kind anymore and especially this generation of sporty cars from Japan. Most of them have either rusted away or were rode hard and put up wet, or worse yet now seeing duty as drifter cars.  This car is wearing it's original coat of Terra Cotta paint and is completely rust free.   Some of you ebay aficionados may recall seeing this car here on ebay a few months ago.  Without boring you with a bunch of useless nostalgia dribble I would like to tell you why this car is in my possession. As a fifty something year old who has always had an interest in things with 4 wheels I have been restoring, collecting and occasionally buying and reselling classic and unique cars for a number of years now.  My primary interest has been in Pony Cars of the sixties and seventies.  In December of 1981 I purchased a brand new and just introduced 1982 Supra P type exactly like the one you see here.  The Supra had won Motor Trend's  Import Car of the Year award for 1982 and all of the car magazines were raving on about the car.  Each of them featured a Terra Cotta P type Supra on their covers so when I saw one show up on the showroom of my local Toyota dealer I had to have it.   Approximately one month after I purchased the car the car was totaled when I was struck by a drunk driver.  As a young newly married man with a new job and a new baby I was pressured not to replace the car with another sports car so I bought a Cressida instead.  Loved the Cressida but always had a soft spot in my heart for my "first sports car" so when I saw this car on ebay I had to have it.  I have  enjoyed driving the car the last couple of months getting plenty of thumbs up and "what is that?" questions but I got my needed dose of nostalgia.  I would love to keep the car but I have come to the realization I don't have space for the car at this time.  I am out of garage space at the house and a have a wife who is going to kill me if I don't free up a space for her driver.   I am currently keeping the car at a storage facility about a mile from my house.

As far as this car goes here is what I can tell you.  As you have probably figured out, I am not the original owner.  The car was originally purchased by a gentleman in Cuddebacville NY on March 30, 1983 from Toyota City Inc. in Mamaroneck NY.  He is the only titled owner.  I have the original title that was signed over by him in April of 2012.  I have not reassigned the title and is still open.  If you purchase the car you will be the second registered owner. Apparently he was fanatic about this car as it was stored in an environmentally  controlled garage  it's entire life and never driven in bad weather.   It has 61K miles showing and I am absolutely positive this is original per the condition of the car.  The car was undercoated and Ziebarted when purchased.  There is no evidence the car has ever been an any collision and is wearing 100% of it's original paint which looks beautiful.   The interior is also showing very little wear with the exception of the console lid.  The original floor mats are with the car and pictured here.  Even the drivers floor mat is still nice.  The car runs like a Swiss watch and drives out fine. I am still amaze at the build quality of Asian cars especially Toyotas of this era.  The car is as tight as it was new with no squeaks or rattles.   The A/C is currently not working but all the components are there including the belt. I haven't had time to put gauges on it to check for leaks but I would bet that it would blow cold with a charge of R12.  All power accessories work fine including the sunroof.   Only two other things that will need attention in the future is the gas gauge and the clutch.  It goes into gear fine and shifts fine but it is obvious to me that the clutch is nearing the end of its life(normal wear)

I have the original window sticker for the car ( $ 16,523) and original dealer brochures.     I have owned all generations of the Supra with the exception of the first one is still my favorite.  While this car is not perfect it is wouldn't take much to make it one.  I have priced the car with a fair Buy it Now price with a reserve that is lower and also very fair for a car of this caliber.  If there is something not covered in the description or not represented by the pictures, please feel free to contact me by sending a message through ebay.  I will respond promptly.  Good luck and happy bidding!

This Irishman really likes the Toyota GT86

Sun, 10 Feb 2013

Okay, okay - by this point in time just liking the Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ, what have you) doesn't make you special. Even if you're a sort of funny sounding, funny looking Irishman, who probably isn't the most seasoned car reviewer ever, digging the GT86 is not news.
However, if, when you choose to publish your ten-minute-long review, you include exclamatory phrases about your own pubic hair, Ozzy Osborne's drug habit and "gentleman vegetable stuff," well sir, then you'll have our attention.
Don't give up on this video, available down below, after the first couple of minutes, we implore you. The silver-tongued Irishman doesn't really get warmed up until four minutes in, or so. Believe us, it's worth the wait.

Recharge Wrap-up: Nissan "religious" about zero-emissions, Tesla crashes at dealership, Formula E on-board video

Wed, Jul 16 2014

Nissan is pretty darn serious about being king of the EV industry. Just see what Chief Planning Officer Andy Palmer has to say at the launch of the e-NV200: "When it comes to zero emissions, we're absolutely religious. We'll be the absolute, No. 1 leader in zero emissions. No doubt. That's our positioning." Bold words, to be sure. Toyota, on the other hand, ended its collaboration with Tesla (whom Nissan mustn't forget about in its quest to reign supreme in the EV world) to build the RAV4 EV, and will focus instead on hybrids and testing the waters with hydrogen cars. Says Jim Lentz, CEO of Toyota North America, "I would rather invest my dollars in fuel cell development than in another 2,500 EVs." Read more at Automotive News or Autoweek. To celebrate 25 years of TDI technology, Audi is releasing the A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI Competition special edition in Europe. The Competition uses Audi's biturbocharged, 3.0-liter diesel engine boosted to 326 horsepower, giving the car a 0-62 time of 5.1 seconds. It comes with the S line sport package and is offered in four exterior colors: Daytona Gray, Misano Red, Nardo Gray and Sepang Blue. The interior is black leather, with the option of Misano Red or Agate Gray contrast stitching. The Competition edition will go on sale in August starting at ˆ72,000 (about $97,700). Audi's first Turbocharged Direct Injection engine debuted at the 1989 Frankfurt Motor Show in the Audi 100 2.5 TDI. See the press release down below for more details. There was another Tesla Model S crash recently, this one at the Tesla Store. The driver apparently crashed the freshly purchased car into the Tesla sign before even making it off the lot. According to Reddit user s1lentway, who was at the Tesla Store in Fremont, California when it happened, "We believe this is someone who just got their car. They must have been driving it for less than a minute and lost control, crashing right into the sign missing the showroom glass windows only by a few inches." Wrecked Exotics suggests the driver hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal. Probably the best comment in the Reddit post: "Edison strikes again." See the original post at Reddit for more corny jokes, speculation and similar stories from other users. Take a lap in a Formula E racecar. The video below offers up the sights and sounds of a hot, wet lap in the open-cockpit, all-electric Spark-Renault SRT_01E.

Toyota, Mercedes, BMW top automakers included in List of Best Global Brands

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

Interbrand, a consultancy firm, has published its 13th annual list of the best global brands. Besides seeing some shakeups at the top - Apple and Google unseated Coca-Cola (a company that has dominated the survey since its birth), the 100-item list features 14 automakers, most of which enjoyed double-digit gains in brand value.
Toyota managed to retain its spot as the study's top automaker. It finished the survey in 10th position overall (the same as last year), despite a 17-percent improvement in its brand value, from $29.33 billion to $35.34 billion. Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Honda all made the top 20, at 11th, 12th and 20th place, respectively. Hopping a ways down the list, we come across Volkswagen in 34th place, up from 39th in last year's study, with a brand value of $11.12 billion, a 20-percent improvement over 2012. Ford and Hyundai round out the automakers in the top 50, at 42 and 43.
Porsche made the largest year-over-year gain of any automaker, with its brand value increasing 26 percent to $6.47 billion. Chevrolet meanwhile, cracks the list for the very first time at 89th place. As Interbrand notes, Chevy's inclusion is notable because of the sheer number of vehicles it moves for General Motors and its recent push in developing markets. The final interesting note on this survey is the position of an automaker that takes its name and logo more seriously than perhaps any other - Ferrari. The Italian exotic manufacturer finished 98th out of 100, with just $4.01 billion in brand value, a six-percent improvement over 2012.
