Hi,

Up for sale is a 2005 Toyota Rav4 "L" package with several upgrades.  The vehicle has been extremely reliable, which we're sorry to see go.  Due to a new edition to our family, we're forced to look for a larger SUV.

Being a smaller SUV that the RAV4 is, it handles and rides more similar to a car than a full size SUV but with the benefit of having a great view of the road.  It allows us to maneuver in tight spaces but yet have enough cargo space to bring large packages home.  The 4 wheel drive transmission has gotten us through many tough snow storms that other cars could not drive in.

Quick features are: 4 cylinder, Daytime Driving Lights, All Wheel Drive, Power Window, Power Locks, Remote Key Fob, functional Air Conditioning, factory upgraded wheel with larger tires, additional body moulding (part of the "L" package), grey cloth seat with no tears that I can find, roof rack, cruise control, removable rear cargo cover and front fog/running lights.  The rear seats have features not even found on luxury vehicles.  The two rear seats have some range of motion to slide forward or backward and to tilt forward or recline.  Lastly these two rear seats can be removed completely out of the vehicle to open up a cavernous space to haul large items.  The transmission on this vehicle is a 5 speed manual.  It allows for great control of the engine, such as controlling decent and keeping the engine in either a fuel efficient mode or in the power band for pulling a trailer.

I've upgraded the sound system.  I replaced the stock head unit with a Toyota factory OEM head unit intended for the Scion line.  I learned from the RAV4 forum that this model is made by Pioneer and has great acoustic qualities.  A major benefit of staying with a Toyota OEM head unit is the ability to retain the steering wheel control functions.  I've also upgraded the speakers with Kappa and Infinity line.  Lastly, the audio system has a Rockford Fosgate amplifier.  I'm more than pleased with how this came out ($1000+ investment).

A trailer hitch with necessary electrical wiring, Toyota brand side steps and Toyota brand mud guards has also been installed.

I drive the RAV4 daily to work (round trip is ~60 miles) and that explains the high mileage.  It's mostly a highway commute.  I drive 60-70% highway and I average 25 MPG on regular gas.  All four tires were replaced earlier this year so they have plenty of tread life and a tire alignment was completed at that time.  I change the engine oil at an interval outlined by Toyota.  I go further by using Mobil1 Synthetic and staying with Toyota oil filter.  No cracks on any of the glass and no leaks into the interior or fluid leaks from the RAV4.

The brake pads may require replacing.  I can include a set (one axle) of Toyota OEM brake pads as duplicate was sent in error when I originally replaced them.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.  The car is sold as is as I'm not in the automotive industry but I'm confident the car will continue to serve the new owner well.  I still commute daily and never hesitate to drive with my newborn.

Thanks for looking!

Lexus Eco Challenge rewards schools for clean water, briquette press projects

Fri, Feb 28 2014

Teams from one New Jersey high school and one Michigan middle school reversed the old adage by thinking locally and acting globally. And that strategy won them the grand prizes in the most recent edition of the Lexus Eco Challenge. The future is indeed bright. The Toyota luxury-vehicle division gave out a half-million dollars in this year's contest. One $30,000 grand prize was awarded to the Pinelands Eco Scienteers from Little Egg Harbor, NJ, which produced and distributed low-cost briquette presses to rural villages beset by deforestation. The other grand prize went to the E.T. Electrical Team from Byron Center West Middle School in Michigan. That middle-school group raised money to send water filters to Haiti, Kenya and the Philippines. Lexus also awarded eight $15,000 first-place awards, with the winners including high schools from California, Florida, Missouri and Pennsylvania as well as middle schools from Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina and Texas. A special shout out goes to Daniel Boone Area High School in Birdsboro, PA, where students created an educational and public-relations campaign to publicize algae-based biofuels. In all, Lexus has doled out more than $4 million in Eco Challenge awards in seven years. Check out Lexus's press release below. Students Get Dollars and Sense in Lexus Eco Challenge - $500,000 Awarded to Teams Who Learn About Environment and Community Empowerment Two Grand Prize Teams Earn $30,000 Eight $15,000 First Place Awards Given to Innovative High School and Middle School Teams Students Bring Ideas to a Larger Audience and Make a Positive Impact on the World TORRANCE, Calif., (Feb. 24, 2014) – It's a win, win situation! Communities become a better place, and students, teachers and schools have the chance to share $500,000 in scholarships and grants through the Lexus Eco Challenge. This year, the $30,000 Grand Prize winners are the Pinelands Eco Scienteers from Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, and the E.T. Electrical Team from Byron Center, Michigan. The Lexus Eco Challenge is an educational program and contest that inspires and empowers young people to learn about the environment and take action to improve it. High school and middle school teams nationwide define an environmental issue that is important to them, develop an action plan to address the issue, implement the plan, and report on the results.

Lost power in a winter storm? Just hook up a Toyota Prius like this guy did

Thu, Jan 9 2014

The Toyota Prius' battery pack just got something like a five-star rating from a truly seasoned professional – a 50-year aircraft technician. Bob Osemlak, who'd served more than three of those five decades with the Canadian Air Force, brought electricity back to his home in December during a heavy ice storm thanks to his gas-electric car. His ingenuity allowed him to turn on lights, furnace, refrigerator and the TV. The Thornhill, Ontario resident lost power for nearly a day on December 21 – not nearly as much as millions of other people hit by the recent storm - and so he still set about using his Prius for backup power, according to EV World. His ingenuity allowed him to turn on lights, furnace, refrigerator and the TV. Being an aircraft technician for so long brought Osemlak the ability to home-brew his V2H set-up that he urges other people to avoid, for safety reasons. He had planned for a potential power outage by installing an outlet on his furnace and, when the storm struck, he ran a cord through the basement window to the car. During the nine hours Osemlak used his Prius for backup power, the car's fuel gauge only reduced less than one bar, or roughly the equivalent of a gallon of gasoline. It wasn't the first time Osemlak had played with his vehicle. In the 1960s, while stationed in Winnepeg, Manitoba, he created a car starter. Every hour, the car would start up and run for 10 minutes to avoid being frozen solid in frigid winter temperatures. 2015 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro priced from $41,285*

Fri, 29 Aug 2014

Just a few weeks after announcing pricing for the first two members of its TRD Pro Series, Toyota has finally dropped the final pricing details on its new Tundra TRD Pro. Like the Tacoma TRD Pro, the Tundra will be available in two different body styles, with a more affordable Double Cab and a roomier Crew Cab.
Prices start at $41,285 for the former and $43,900 for the latter - not counting a hefty $1,100 destination charge - effectively slotting Toyota's off-road-ready model between the $41,730, Double Cab Limited and $46,465, Crew Cab-only 1794 Edition trucks.
As we've covered previously, the TRD Pro models come with a raft of off-road gear that should help combat just about any terrain a driver may stumble across. TRD-tuned Bilstein shocks and TRD-tuned front springs add two inches to the big truck's ride height while the black, 18-inch TRD wheels and available Inferno Orange paint add a bit of visual sass. A new TRD dual exhaust system is also standard, which can confirm sounds great (review coming soon!).
