They don't get much nicer than this 2005 Toyota Prius. It is just as clean as the day it was new. It has had one owner, runs and drives 100%, has a clean Autocheck and is being sold with no reserve. The 1.5L four cylinder electric/gas hybrid engine purrs along without a miss, smoke, fluid leaks or any issues. The hybrid system works perfectly. It charges and assists as necessary and the autostop engages when stopped. No "check engine" or warning lights of any kind. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly without hesitation. The brakes, suspension and steering work like new. No exhaust leaks. The exterior is a glossy silver with no dents, dings or scratches. There are a few tiny stone chips on the front of the hood. The lights and lenses are bright with no cracks. The tires, on factory alloy wheels, have about 50% tread (see pic). No windshield cracks but there is a chip behind the passenger side wiper. The overall appearance should be considered way above average. The interior condition is equally as clean. The carpet is very clean with no stains, holes or wear areas. Same thing with the cloth seats. All the power options such as cruise control, side mirrors, windows, etc. work as designed. There is a factory sound system with CD and steering wheel controls. The heat is hot and the AC is cold. The interior looks hardly used. This was obviously a well maintained Toyota Prius. We think that there are many more years of reliable service with this car. There are no mechanical problems and no indication of any impending issues. The new owner will be able to drive home, with confidence, no matter where they live. By choosing to advertise in households with specific attributes, Toyota hopes to grab the attention of buyers who "see their vehicle as an extension of their consumption of advanced technology," according to Toyota Motors Sales media manager Lisa McQueen. The ad depicts a person who is skeptical of various inventions throughout history until he finds himself inside the Prius Prime. Hyundai has also used addressable TV ads for its Genesis brand. Read more at Automotive News. Two Florida men have each been sentenced to over 10 years in prison for biodiesel credit fraud. Thomas Davanzo and Robert Fedyna of Gen-X Energy Group and its subsidiary Southern Resources and Commodities were convicted of buying fuel that had already been sold with Renewable Identification Numbers, then fraudulently claiming more credits on that fuel. The scheme raked in more than $46 million, mostly in selling the fraudulent credits. Critics of the Renewable Fuel Standard point to incidents like this as a reason to oppose the program. Read more from Reuters. Volvo electric buses in Luxembourg will use Heliox Fast Charge systems. Public transport operator Sales-Lentz has ordered three of the Heliox systems that will charge the buses using pantograph (overhead wire) contacts. The chargers will be placed at end-of-route stops for opportunistic charging of the transport agency's four Volvo 7900 electric buses. The 450-kW, Wi-Fi-enabled OppCharge system automatically connects the charger to contact plates on the roofs of the vehicles, charging them in three to six minutes. Read more at Green Car Congress. The Problem: The curtain shield airbags that come down from the roof can inadvertently deploy shortly after vehicle startup. This is due to improper programming of the airbag control module. Injuries/Deaths: "Toyota is not aware of any crashes caused by the condition. We have received reports alleging injuries such as abrasions and ringing in ears," company spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog. The Fix: Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the airbag control module with a new part, which will have improved programming. The involved vehicles are equipped with side Curtain-Shield-Airbags (CSAs) which deploy from the roof in the event of certain types of crashes. Due to improper programming in the airbag control modules, there is a possibility that, under certain specific and limited conditions shortly after startup, the CSAs and seat belt pretensioners could activate when not necessary. Unexpected activation of the CSAs could increase the risk of injury to the occupant. All known owners of the involved vehicles will be notified by first class mail. Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the airbag control module with one which has an improved programming at no cost to owners. Information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is subject to change over time.
