This is a one owner 2002 Toyota Prius. It runs and drives 100%, has a clean AutoCheck and is being sold with no reserve. The 1.5L four cylinder electric/gas hybrid engine purrs along without a miss or fluid loss. The hybrid system works perfectly. No "check engine" or hybrid warning lights. The system is charging and assisting as required and the auto stop engages when stopped. The brakes, steering and suspension are working with no issues. No exhaust leaks. The exterior is a glossy blue. There are no major dents or dings. You might the typical scratches of a dark color. No body rust. The tires, on factory alloy wheels, have about 50% tread (see pic). The windshield is chip or crack free. The lights and lenses are bright with no cracks. The interior is gray cloth seats and carpet. No rips, holes or wear areas on either the carpet or seats. All the power options such as windows, side mirrors, cruise control, etc. work as designed. There is a factory sound system with CD. It has a factory navigation but needs the nav disc which can be obtained online or from Toyota. This is a great hybrid for the cost conscious driver. It gets the same fuel efficiency of 50+ MPG as the newer, high priced models. There are absolutely no mechanical issues with this vehicle and no indication of any impending problems. Has the auto industry hit peak hybrid?
Thu, 12 Jun 2014Hybrids are known for their great fuel economy and low emissions, but it looks like given current market conditions, only about three percent of new car consumers are willing to pay the premium for them. A new study from IHS/Polk finds that the hybrid market share among overall US auto sales are falling, despite more models with the technology on sale than ever before.
The study examined new car registrations in March from 2009 through 2014. In that time, the auto industry grew from 24 to 47 hybrid models available to consumers, but market share for the powertrain remained almost stagnant in that time. As of 2009, hybrids held 2.4 percent of the market; it fell slightly to 2.3 percent in 2010 and grew to 3.3 percent in 2013. However, 2014 showed a drop back to 3 percent. Overall hybrid sales have been growing since 2010, but they just aren't keeping up with the total auto market.
According to IHS/Polk, this isn't what you would expect to see. Usually, each new model in the market brings along with it a boost in sales. The growth in hybrid models 2009 to 2014 should have shown a larger increase in share for the segment.

Redesigned 2014 Toyota Tundra spied testing in Canada
Tue, 29 Jan 2013When Toyota first announced that it would be bringing the 2014 Tundra pickup to next month's Chicago Auto Show, we weren't quite sure if the truck would fall into the "all-new" or "refreshed" category. After seeing this latest set of spy shots, we're striking "all-new" from the record, but the enhancements do appear to be more than just a simple nip/tuck.
While the overall shape and greenhouse haven't really changed, heavy cladding found on the front fascia suggests that a totally redesigned nose is in store, with a fully reworked grille flanked by new headlamps. Smaller styling details are hidden by the big panels of camouflage, but we anticipate a few minor tweaks to the rest of the pickup's design when all that black tape finally comes off.
Mum's the word on powertrain enhancements (if any), as well as any changes that have been made to the chassis. But with the updated 2013 Ram 1500 already on the street, the recent unveiling of the updated 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra twins, and a preview of what's to come from the likes of Ford, we certainly hope Toyota has injected enough new blood into its 2014 model year pickup to keep it competitive in this American-dominated segment. We'll know for sure come Chicago.
