Great 2007 Toyota Prius Touring edition I'm the second owner of this car and it is a great vehicle, I just am selling it because I bought a 2010 Prius as it's replacement :( I hate to see it go, but I know it is time for it to bring joy to someone else :) The color is a spruce green (sort of light, not a dark green). The interior is a very light gray. This is the Touring model which comes with every option available to the 2007 except leather seats. Navigation, Bluetooth so you can stay handsfree when talking on your phone. It will also import your phone contacts over bluetooth so all you have to do is select which ones you want as speed dial and then speak it or touch the speed dial number and that's it! It has the back up camera for safety, Homelink (buttons on your rear view mirror to replace your garage door remotes, gate remotes, etc.), Auto dimming mirror, power side mirrors, cruise control, power locks and windows, 6 disc cd player, an auxillary port for an audio cable that I'm including that can plug into either an ipod, iphone, mp3 player, etc and you can play your music in the auxillary setting of the radio. It has the smart key system (no need to ever get the key out, just walk up to the door and open it and it senses the key. Same as driving. As long as the key is somewhere in the vehicle, it operates, no putting it in an ignition and turning like a regular key. I LOVE THAT FEATURE!!! You will get spoiled by not having to dig around a purse or pocket looking for a key! When exiting the car, you push 1 of 3 little black buttons located on the drivers door handle, front passengers door handle and back hatch handle. So many options on this model! Everything works great! There are NO known issues with this car, I just had the oil changed and cleaned it inside and out so that I could ensure that If something was hiding, I could find out and nothing presented itself other than normal wear on the interior and exterior. It's cleaner than the average 2007 car with right at 150,000 miles! There are a couple of small door dings and some chips here and there, but probably less than the average 2007 car with right at 150,000 miles! This car has been well taken care of by the first owner (the first 70,000 miles) and by me. I get between 48mpg and 52mpg depending on weather and driving conditions (really cold or really hot uses more gas due to using the air or the heat, both of which make the engine run more. You can sweat it out or freeze if you want to maximize your mpgs though!). See the edmunds.com appraisal below and you will see that the private party sale value is $9,094. KBB.com is the same. I'm basically selling it for what the trade in value is. That's a great deal on this car! Check out the vehicle history report and you will see that I'm the 2nd owner and it's never been wrecked and has always passed emissions. It will make a great car for someone, I hope they love it as much as I have! Use Edmunds.com to accurately appraise your used car.
All the manuals are in the glovebox. The tires are in very good condition, I just put in a new set of wiper blades just a few months back (and I buy the good ones!). It's never been wrecked, not even a fender bender! It's never had any major problems, it's been a GREAT car! I really do hate to sell it because it's been so good, but it was time for a newer one for me, so I must part with it... I've got it listed locally on Craigslist also, so I may end this auction early if it sells there. Call, text or email with any questions. Jennifer 404-941-6316 (please only call from 8am-9pm EST) |

The tumultuous history of the diesel engine
Tue, Oct 6 2015Volkswagen, diesel's most enthusiastic patron, deceived everyone about the amount of emissions its cars were putting out. We have covered this latest massive automotive scandal in great detail, and there are surely more fascinating revelations to come. It turns out that this is just the latest episode in the epic story of the controversy and intrigue surrounding the diesel engine, and its inventor. This is the story of the tumultuous birth and interesting evolution of the compression-ignition engine at the center of the VW scandal. Napoleon III Got Rudolf Diesel Deported Rudolf Diesel was born in Paris in 1858. His Bavarian parents had settled in France where his father, Theodor, was a leather goods manufacturer. When the French Parliament declared war on Prussia, kicking off the Franco-Prussian war, the Diesels fled to London. When he was 12, Rudolf went to live with his aunt and uncle in the Bavarian university town of Augsburg. It was his parents' hometown, and importantly, it's where Rudolf began studying at the Royal County Trade School. His time in Augsburg, graduating at the top of his class from trade school that laid the groundwork for all that was to come. Diesel Nearly Blew Himself Up An early career in refrigeration saw Diesel running R&D in Berlin for Linde, a company started by refrigeration pioneer Carl Von Linde, one of Diesel's professors. His ambition to branch out beyond refrigeration, and his deep understanding of thermodynamics, led to efficiency experiments with steam engines. Diesel was trying to create an engine that didn't waste heat from the combustion process, therefore getting the most work out of the fuel. Instead, he was nearly killed when an experimental ammonia vapor steam engine exploded. Recovery took many months, and during some of that time, he was no doubt planning his next experimental engine, based on the theoretical Carnot cycle. His Engine Was An Attempt To Stick It To The Man Steam engines were expensive to run and wasteful. Diesel thought the efficiency of his design would be a way for the small business to compete with the dominant industrial giants. It was, and it did, but big business is equally passionate about chasing efficiency. Diesel engines quickly proliferated in industries both grand and cottage. Rudolf Didn't Really Invent The Diesel As We Know It Instead, he improved an existing one to a significant degree. The Diesel engine could be considered an evolution of the "hot-bulb" engine.
Rod Millen to face Monster Tajima in Electric Division of Pikes Peak Hill Climb
Mon, 11 Feb 2013The 91st running of the Pike's Peak International Hill Climb is scheduled to begin on June 30. Like last year's event, the 12.42 mile course - fully paved these days - starts at 9,390 feet elevation and doesn't stop climbing until it reaches an impressive 14,110 feet (the air is so thin up there that the FAA requires pilots to use oxygen at that altitude).
There will be an assortment of internal combustion machines racing to the summit, entries from France, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Sweden, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland and Belgium, but all eyes will be on the electric showdown between Rod Millen and Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima, from Japan. 61-year-old Millen is a familiar name to Toyota racing fans, and he will be driving the Toyota TMG EV P002 (it won the Electric title last year), while Tajima will be again piloting the Monster Sport E-Runner (which was forced out of the field last year after a fire broke out).
Other entrants include Rhys Millen driving a 2013 Hyundai PM58OT and Paul Dallenbach, who will be driving Millen's Hyundai Genesis Coupe (it set the all-time speed mark last year).
Thanks to smaller engines, vehicle dependability falls for first time in 16 years
Fri, Feb 14 2014As automakers have made engines smaller and smaller to improve fuel economy, problems in those vehicles have gotten bigger and bigger. That's the synopsis of a J.D. Power vehicle-dependability study, which found that dependability dropped for the first time in 16 years, largely because the proliferation of four-cylinder engines is causing the vehicles to be less reliable. Specifically, the number of problems per 100 vehicles (or what J.D. Power calls PP100) during the past 12 months for 2011 model-year vehicles rose six percent from the year-earlier figures for 2010 model-year cars. Singling out four-cylinder vehicles revealed about a 10-percent increase in problems during the past year. This issues largely related to engine hesitation, rough transmission shifting and lack of power, signaling the inability of vehicle makers to iron out some of the problems in their smaller engines as they strove for better fuel economy. Six- and five-cylinder engines proved far more reliable. Among car brands, BMW's Mini sub-brand came out as least reliable, with 185 problems per 100 vehicles during the past year. Toyota's Lexus badge was easily the most reliable, with just 68 problems per 100 vehicles. Coming in second place was Mercedes-Benz. The overall average was 133. Check out J.D. Power's press release below. J.D. Power Reports: Increased Engine and Transmission Problems Contribute to Decline in Vehicle Dependability for The First Time in More Than 15 Years General Motors Company Receives Eight Segment Awards, While Toyota Motor Corporation Garners Seven and Honda Motor Company Earns Six WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.: o Owners of 3-year-old vehicles (2011 model year) report more problems than did owners of 3-year-old vehicles last year, according to the J.D. Power 2014 U.S. Vehicle Dependability StudySM (VDS) released today. The study, now in its 25th year, examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of 2011 model-year vehicles. Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality. The study finds that overall vehicle dependability averages 133 PP100, a 6 percent increase in problems from 126 PP100 in 2013. This marks the first time since the 1998 study that the average number of problems has increased. "Until this year, we have seen a continual improvement in vehicle dependability," said David Sargent, vice president of global automotive at J.D.
