2003 Toyota Mr2 Spyder Convertable - 90k Miles -smt -dvd/focal Speakers! No Res on 2040-cars
Las Cruces, New Mexico, United States
BID WITH CONFIDENCE - NO RESERVE2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder 2dr Convertible (1.8L 4cyl) with Silver Exterior, Grey Cloth Interior. Loaded with 1.8L I4 EFI Engine, 6-Speed Sequential Manual Transmission, Black Soft Top, Leather Steering Wheel Trim, Pioneer/Focal Audio System, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Power Exterior Mirrors, Staggered Alloy Wheels and more. This MR2 has been meticulously maintained with full synthetic oil every 3000 miles and Purolator Pure One filters (I have a new one i will include as well). It has always received New OEM parts when service's have been done. The only non-wear items we have ever had to replace were 2 Oxygen sensors recently (replaced with Bosch OEM units in august) and a Valve cover gasket at 75,000. It has been incredibly reliable and babied since we bought it with 54,000 miles off our good friend. This generation MR2 is know to be one of the best handling convertibles on the road. At 2195 LBS it is very light and nimble. Mid engine and RWD make a perfect combination for anyone looking to have a fun weekend car, and the reliable Toyota engine is perfect around town and on long trips with 26mpg in town, and 32mpg highway. The non-power convertible top makes for easy up and downs, and makes replacing the top if need a non-hassle pocket friendly ordeal compared to expensive power tops. Toyota also made the right choice to have a glass rear window in the top, which never fades like cheap vinyl windows, and also has rear defroster. The 2003 MR2 also comes with staggered aluminum wheels for better handling and a sporty look. The car currently has Yokohama S-Drive tires with plenty of life left in them, these are summer performance tires that grip very well and are excellent in the rain. The AC is cold and the Heat is hot, we have never had any issues with either system. There is an AEM cold air intake installed to open up the restrictive OEM air box, and take full advantage of the functional side scoops.I installed Denso Iridium spark plugs at 80,000 miles as well, these are rated for 60k+ miles!Best Buy installed a Pioneer AVH-P2300DVD touchscreen DVD/CD head unit as well as Focal 6.5 speakers and tweeters. The speakers are not low quality at all and not even the cheapest Focal 6.5 series either. They have Excellent clarity. The head unitis easy to use and we have never had any problems with it. It has a Front USB port for hooking up anything as an external source. It works exceptionally well with any iphone/ipod.The MR2 is equipped with the 6 speed Sequential Manual Transmission, or SMT. This allows the driver change gears up or down using the shifter, or buttons on the steering wheel (up/down on both sides for left or right hands). the transmission acts like a manual, has no park or full auto mode, but offers perfect clutch-less engagement every time. This MR2 Does have miles, and has been used on many many road trips from California to Mississippi and up to pikes peak all from here in new mexico. Never once have we been let down by this car. The car does however show some use. The paint has some scratches, to include some rock chips on the front and very light paint damage to the passenger rear. It was also involved in an accident to the front passenger side, and had the bumper, light and some suspension components replaced. I am very picky about my MR2, and only OEM parts were used by a qualified body shop, and I even made them repaint the front bumper because it wasn't perfect. the car has been in new mexico for a while now and has never seen snow and has been kept in our garage since we have owned it. Mileage may increase slightly, but it will not be driven daily, and not at all once bids are entered. If you have ANY questions at all please do not be afraid to contact me. Please contact me if you plan to have the car shipped as well. we will certainly work with what ever shipping company you choose and i can even recommend a few that i have used in the past. Thanks. |

2015 Toyota Sienna SE keeps the swagger, adds thoughtful updates [w/videos]
Thu, 17 Jul 2014Toyota found huge success with its "Swagger Wagon" rap video for the 2011 Sienna SE. It showed that a minivan could actually sort of maybe be fun and didn't have to be a lame vehicle for people who long ago lost their sense of humor. Now that there is a slight refresh for the 2015 model, the company is trying to capture that effervescent image again with a bunch of videos aimed at families.
For the latest launch, Toyota is partnering with some family-friendly online video stars and having them show off the Sienna's features. It's releasing YouTube videos from the creators of Action Movie Kid and Convos with My 2-Year-Old and a Vine from Eh Bee Family, and they all hope to show that it's cool to be a family with a minivan.
In terms of actual changes, though, the update is pretty light aesthetically, but the new tech inside seems aimed directly at mom and dad. However, unless you've got a sharp eye, spotting the exterior refresh might be tough. Toyota is tweaking the front end slightly by adding a dark mesh grille and trim. The headlights are also slightly reshaped to incorporate a new strip of available LED running lights.
West Coast labor dispute hampers Japanese automakers' US plants
Wed, Feb 18 2015The ongoing labor dispute between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and port owners along the West Coast is starting to affect more Japanese automakers building vehicles in the US. The issue already forced Honda and Subaru to take the expensive option of airlifting some parts into the US weeks ago, and according to USA Today, Toyota and Nissan have begun doing so, as well. The choice hasn't been cheap, though, and Subaru's chief financial officer estimated that the decision cost around $60 million more per month than sending components by cargo ship. The effects continue to radiate, according to USA Today, and shortages of some models are possible. Honda is slowing production at its factories in Ohio, Indiana and Canada because the automaker doesn't have enough transmissions and electronics for some vehicles. Toyota already cut back on overtime at some factories. Nissan has only seen a small effect from the issue, though, because of its local suppliers. Dock workers and port owners have been negotiating on a new contract since last year, and the union has organized work slowdowns in response. According to USA Today, the automakers could move shipments to Canada or Mexico, but it would take longer for parts to arrive. Jaguar solution to keyless start could save lives
Mon, May 14 2018UPDATED: An earlier version of this story indicated the Jaguar keyless start function was meant as a safety feature, when in fact, it is meant as a convenience one and will not work as described if automatic stop/start is not engaged. Today, The New York Times published an article about more than two dozen deaths related to drivers accidentally leaving their cars running, closing their garages and later succumbing to carbon monoxide that flooded their homes. The reason has been identified as "keyless start" features, or proximity entry and push-button start, where owners don't need to physically handle a key or fob to gain entry into the vehicle or start it. It is the latest, and deadliest, issue raised with this system after those related to security and simple inconvenience (for instance, leaving the car at a valet or car wash with the fob in your pocket). From my personal perspective, The New York Times had a rather harsh "evil carmakers" tone throughout the article. This is not a matter of a known faulty component, as with the GM ignition switch recall. This has as much to do with user error where people leave their car without pressing the "off" button and without noticing the engine is still running. About half of the cars in question are produced by Toyota and Lexus, brands that have offered keyless start longer than most. They are also brands with high rates of elderly owners, who seemingly made up a majority of reported deaths and injuries. One fire department in Florida even started a campaign alerting those in the area of the dangers of leaving your car running when it noticed a correlation between an increase in cars equipped with keyless start and calls related to carbon monoxide poisoning. I see several contributing issues at play, most of which go well beyond this particular issue. First is insufficient training of owners by dealers and/or owners not paying close enough attention during this training. Cars are complicated, but you should at least know how basic functions work. Second, woefully inadequate driver training in this country. Third, and with apologies to the AARP, insufficient testing of elderly drivers and/or insufficiently low standards for elderly drivers. If you don't know you have to shut the car off or cannot hear that an engine is running, perhaps you shouldn't be driving. Fourth, re-examining keyless start systems.
