1993 Toyota Land Cruiser

Series 80 with Diff Lockers

I bought this Land Cruiser for my personal project.  I had been dreaming of one of these Cruisers for a long time.  Most all I looked like they have had a very hard life with little service or care. Over the years I must have looked at 50 Cruisers before I found this one.  What struck me about this particular Land Cruiser is that it was all original paint, Zero rust, all stock and not modified.  Plus the Grey interior color is much better than the Tan that a lot of Pure White Land Cruisers had.  When I test drove this one I knew this would be the best one for my new driver.  I was really looking for a well-serviced vehicle, so I was happy to see that it had several receipts in the glove box plus all the original owners manuals.  You can always tell a vehicle was cared for by the tires, this one has Michelin All Terrain LTX M/S, even including a brand new one as a spare.   So after I bought it is when I got a little carried away.  I did a full service with new plugs, cap, rotor and wires.  I also changed the fluids.  It had a small hesitation, which I found was the TPS sensor, so it was also changed.  Air conditioning is very important to me, while it worked most of the time, I found it had a bad Evaporator valve, so that was changed, as well with the dryer for safe bets.  So now it will freeze you out on a hot day.  The seats where in good conditioning, but I am a sucker for new car smell, so I had all the seat leather replaced including the jump seats in the back to new leather.  Like I said I got carried away…  Only other item was a bad antenna mast, which I found needed a complete power antenna assembly.  I bought the factory original from Toyota and had in installed.  Everything on the Land Cruiser works perfectly.  All door locks, windows, moon roof, heat, ac, 4wd, everything!

Driving this Land Cruiser is a joy.  No rattles or clucks going down the road.  Great power from the bullet proof 24 Valve 4.5 inline six cylinders, code named 1FZ-FE.  1993 was the first year for the high Pinion Electric Locking Differentials, and the got larger brakes over the earlier ones.

It is a very comfortable SUV that seats 7 with the removable rear seats.

I can only fault the vehicle in two places, on the pass rear door there is a very small tear in the vinyl, a small dent in the rear bumper above the hitch, like they backed into a trailer.  I am very picky about my vehicles, plus I have a very short attention span when it comes to keeping cars or trucks.  Probably why I am a car dealer.  I think I actually like the dream and hunt more than ownership.  So it time for someone to benefit from my obsessiveness and get a great Land Cruiser Series 80

Toyota and Mazda in talks to build joint US auto plant

Fri, Aug 4 2017

UPDATE: The Toyota-Mazda deal has been announced. A newer version of this story appears here. Toyota Motor Corp and rival Mazda Motor Corp are expected to announce plans on Friday to launch a joint venture and build a new U.S. assembly plant, a person briefed on the matter said. A new auto plant would be a major boost to U.S. President Donald Trump, who campaigned on promises to boost manufacturing and expand employment for American autoworkers. Japan's Nikkei reported on Thursday that Toyota would take a roughly five-percent stake in Mazda Motor Corp to develop key electric vehicle technologies and jointly build a factory in the United States. The deal could be announced as soon as Friday, the newspaper said. The person briefed on the matter, who was not authorized to speak to the media and requested anonymity, confirmed the Japanese carmakers were planning to build a large plant in a yet to be determined U.S. location and planned future joint efforts on electric vehicles. The same source declined to offer further details, however. Toyota, in a statement, said the two companies have been exploring various areas of collaboration under a May 2015 agreement. "We intend to submit a proposal to our board of directors today regarding the partnership with Mazda, however, we would like to refrain from providing further comment at this time," Toyota said in a statement issued by its U.S. operations. Mazda said in statement that "nothing has been decided yet" and added the company "will have a board meeting on this matter today. We cannot comment any further." Toyota, the world's second-largest automaker by vehicle sales in 2016 and Japan's dominant car company, has been forging alliances with smaller Japanese rivals for several years, effectively consolidating the Japanese auto sector. A new U.S. assembly plant would likely become the prize in a fierce competition among Midwestern and Southern states eager to expand manufacturing jobs. Trump in January criticized Toyota for importing cars to the United States from Mexico. The Republican president also threatened to impose a hefty fee on Toyota if it were to build its Corolla cars for the U.S. market at a plant in Mexico. "Toyota Motor said will build a new plant in Baja, Mexico, to build Corolla cars for U.S. NO WAY! Build plant in U.S. or pay big border tax," Trump said in a post on Twitter. But since January, Trump has praised Toyota for its U.S. investments.

The Toyota GT86 Shooting Brake Concept is real

Fri, May 6 2016

As a two-door wagon the shooting brake exists at the unusual but captivating intersection between practicality and sportiness. This Toyota GT86 Shooting Brake Concept is no different – it's a standard GT86, with no mechanical alterations save the grafted-on wagonette roof and hatch. It's fully functional, too, having turned some laps on Toyota's test tracks. It even has the blessing of Tetsuya Tada, the father of the Toyota 86 and its Subaru BRZ and (now rebadged) Scion FR-S, who's been protective of the original GT86 concept to the point of strenuously resisting any serious power upgrades. This isn't the first shooting brake concept we've seen from the Toyobaru twins, but it's the first Toyota-badged one. Subaru brought the Cross Sport Design Concept to the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. So how did the GT86 Shooting Brake Concept happen? The story, as Toyota tells it, involves the company's Australian design team. They created a 1/4-scale clay model of the shooting brake, and showed it to Tada when he visited in late 2014. He was so impressed, Toyota says, that he had his hand-picked craftsman in Japan bring the idea to full-scale fruition. The Australian design team, in the outdoor-loving spirit of their country, immediately thought that the longer roof would be perfect for carrying surfboards and other unwieldy sports equipment. And it would be. Meanwhile, Tada and the rest of the Toyota corporation want to tamp down expectations. It's a design study, the company says, and it's just "testing the waters." Toyota won't rule anything out, and Mazda recently surprised everyone with the MX-5 RF's unusual and attractive targa model. Maybe in a world where Mazda felt confident enough to introduce the RF, Toyota can be daring enough to bring a sporty wagon to the masses. We can hope, and maybe if we all make enough noise together Toyota will make it a reality. Toyota Expands Airbag Recall To 2.2 Million Vehicles Worldwide

Wed, Jun 11 2014

Was your Toyota inspected under the company's recall campaign for faulty airbag inflators last year? You might have another trip ahead to have it repaired again. The automotive giant says that it found "the involved serial numbers provided by the supplier were incomplete, and did not include all of the potentially involved inflators," according to its official announcement. That means more replacements are needed. Toyota's April 2013 inflator recall covered the Corolla, Matrix and Tundra from the 2003 and 2004 model years, the Sequoia from 2002 to 2004 and the Lexus SC 430 from 2002 to 2004. At the time, the company said it would need to inspect about 510,000 vehicles in the US but only expected to replace around 170,000 inflators. However, the latest announcement increases that figure to about 766,300 vehicles in the US. Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the new amount is the combination of owners who need to have their vehicle looked at again and those who didn't come in for the initial recall. The company learned about the problem when Takata, the supplier, provided it with an improved list of the faulty part's serial numbers. According to The Detroit Free Press, the latest recall affects about 2.27 million vehicles from them worldwide. Knight said owners would receive notification of the problem around the end of the month but repairs would come in phases because the automaker doesn't have all of the necessary parts at the moment. The original problem occurred because the front passenger airbag inflator from Takata could have an improper propellant that could cause it to burst in an accident and not allow the airbag to deploy properly. Toyota inspected all the vehicles listed but only changed the inflators with specific serial numbers. Now, it's replacing them all. This wasn't just a problem for Toyota, though. Honda, Nissan and Mazda also used the faulty inflators and issued recalls at the same time. Autoblog has contacted the other Japanese automakers about whether similar campaigns are necessary for them. We will update this story, if we hear back from them. Scroll down to read Toyota's announcement. UPDATE: Honda spokesperson Jessica Howell sent along the following statement: Honda is aware that Toyota recently announced a recall of front passenger's airbag inflators. Honda is not aware of any incidents in our vehicles related to Toyota's action. We are currently investigating the potential implications to Honda vehicles.
