1992 Toyota Land Cruiser.  Clear title.  4.0 liter inline 6 cyl.  267,844 miles and doing fine.  Wonderful Land Cruiser ruggedness.  Appears to have a good amount of life left in it.  No oil burning.  No oil leaks, but a previous pan leak has been fixed with epoxy and you might want to replace the oil pan at some point.  Runs well overall.  Glides along smoothly on the road. I use it as daily commuter for a total of an hour and a half each day and enjoy driving it, but I cannot continue to do the 14 mpg.  Body in decent condition.  Several rust spots on tailgate and small spot under right rear door.  Paint clearcoat peeling in some areas, but it has been touched up and looks fine overall.  Front bumper paint is a bit rough.  The interior could use some detailing.  Hood and tailgate lift supports need to be replaced.  Power steering whines.  I have a new power steering pump (included with sale), but have not replaced it yet. Front axle seals leak, but not bad.  You can hear a “clunk” in the driveline when you shift from drive to reverse or change from acceleration to deceleration.  It appears to be slack in the front differential, so it will most likely need new differential gears at some point. The U-joints are fine (2 are new).   It probably needs new front brake rotors, because you can sometimes feel the pulsing “brake shudder” or shimmy when stopping.  17 x 9 Cepek DC2 wheels have been painted silver (original Toyota 15” alloy wheels are also included), 265/65R17 BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A tires have about 30% tread left (enough to pass inspection).  The 3rd row seat is missing. Aftermarket window tinting should be removed from drive and passenger windows for optimal visibility.  The sound system works intermittently, but it is a cassette player, so you would most likely want to replace it anyway.

Lexus eschews production in China over quality concerns

Sat, 03 May 2014

One of the more popular trends in the auto industry is setting up production operations in China. Mainstream manufacturers like Ford, General Motors and Volkswagen have done it, and even luxury marques like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have or will soon have manufacturing ops in the People's Republic.
One company that isn't building cars in China, though, is Lexus. The Toyota-owned luxury brand still manufactures all of its vehicles in Japan (aside from a few RXs, which are built at a Toyota factory in Canada). According to Tokuo Fukuichi, Lexus just isn't ready to build cars there yet.
"The German Three have a brand image that they have cultivated over the past century in their long history, but Lexus is not in people's minds like that yet," Fukuichi-san told Reuters UK.

Toyota hits 10 million Camry models sold in US

Tue, 02 Jul 2013

This year marks 30 years of sales for the Toyota Camry in the US, and in that time, it has amassed more than 10 million sales. In its first year on the market, the Camry sold 52,651 units, but it has gone on to become the best-selling car in the US for the last 11 years.
Toyota says that "virtually all" current Camry models sold in the US are made here, and three-quarters of all Camry contents are domestically sourced. Scroll down for the official press release from Toyota, and be sure to check out our gallery of images showing every model year and bodystyle of the Camry since it first went on sale in 1983.

Toyota working on cars that hover above the roadway

Wed, 11 Jun 2014

Toyota is one of the largest automakers in the world, but it's not content simply building and selling conventional cars - it's been at the forefront of numerous advancements in ground transportation. It is widely credited with advancing the cause of hybrid propulsion, and alongside Audi and Google, is among the first automakers seriously testing self-driving cars. We could go on, but the news here is that Toyota is reportedly developing vehicles that hover above the road surface instead of rolling along it.
The news comes from Hiroyoshi Yoshiki, one of Toyota's tech gurus, who revealed at Bloomberg's Next Big Thing summer in San Francisco that the company is working on hovering cars - ones that travel just above the road surface, but don't actually fly in three-dimension space.
According to The Verge, a spin-off of our own sister-site Engadget, Yoshiki refused to elaborate on what the project entails and how far along it is. He was speaking along acting NHTSA chief David Friedman, who lauded such advancements as a "great taste of innovations to come," but stressed the significance of more concrete improvements to conventional automobiles - like inter-car communications to keep vehicles from colliding on the highway - as more relevant to today's industry.
