Beautiful original condition, on only its 3rd owner, this Cruiser had to be parked indoors all or most of its life, just recently moved closer to the coast. 10,000 miles ago the engine was rebuilt by a Toyota Engine shop (I have receipts) and shortly after that the tranny needed it too.  This Land Cruiser runs fantastic, it runs as good as it looks, maybe better!  Interior is very nice also, for a 26 year old vehicle, it is in remarkable condition inside and out (see photos).  No tears on the seats, door panels, headliner or carpet, dash is cherry.  Only flaw in the interior is in the back carpet where the prior owner installed lap belts for the back seat and could have done a better job around the carpet where it bolts to the floor.  It has some rock chips on the hood.  Virtually no rust at all, only light surface rust on the wipers and roof rack.  Go camping, fishing, hunting or prospecting and not be scared to death your gonna get a scratch on it.  Take it out and enjoy it!

This handsome Land Cruiser has had the best of care throughout its lifetime, my mechanic and owner of the Tire Factory store in Gold Beach has been all over it, has driven it home a couple of times and says that it is really a solid vehicle and that he enjoys driving it.  Really the only thing that doesn't work is the fuel gage and with a 36 gallon tank I just keep track of it with the trip-ometer, reseting it at fill ups.  The original owner was a wild life photographer and had the oversize tank installed where the spare normally goes, thats why the spare tire is up on the rack. Every thing else works, power door locks, rear glass defroster, A/C (brrrrrr), original radio with new retractable antenna, etc.

Other recent service are:  New Radiator & tranny cooler, water pump, Starter & Alternator, distributor cap, rotor, plugs & wires, New tires & wheels, steering dampener, New Battery, O2 Sensor, A/C charged, Valve Adjustment, new Brake Calipers, tires rotated, brakes are good.

With the engine & trans rebuilt at 253K and the body and interior so well taken care of, it is ready to go another 250,000, a timeless classic.

Toyota i-Road is no less strange in the flesh

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

We've seen plenty of three-wheeled creations in our day, but none quite like the Toyota i-Road Concept. The "personal mobility vehicle" offers seating for two with driver and passenger positioned in a tandem position. While that may sound more like a motorcycle than a car, the closed cockpit means riders don't need a helmet. The design also takes a page from the 2008 Peugeot HyMotion3 Concept with an articulating front suspension that allows the driver to lean through corners thanks to "Active Lean" self-balancing technology. Unlike the funky Pug, however, the i-Road is a fully electric plug-in vehicle.
While there are just five-horsepower on hand from an electric motor, the i-Road should serve up a range of around 30 miles thanks to its lithium-ion battery, and Toyota claims the cells can be topped off in three hours with a "conventional domestic power supply." Sounds majestic. Take in the full press release below.

Toyota produces millionth truck in Texas

Thu, 19 Sep 2013

After going online in 2006, Toyota's San Antonio, Texas truck plant has just built its one-millionth vehicle, the 2014 Tundra 1794 Edition you see above. The plant originally focused on just the Tundra pickup, but the smaller Tacoma started rolling off the line there in 2010, as well.
Fittingly, the 1794 Edition (a new premium trim level for 2014) pays homage to the property on which the Toyota plant now resides - a ranch that was founded in 1794. Scroll down for the official press release for the plant's milestone, and be sure to check out the full gallery of Tundra 1794 Edition images as well.

In Jamaica, it's not easy to sell or buy hybrid cars

Wed, Jan 15 2014

Jamaica's mellow reputation and Rasta vibe contributes to an international reputation of an island nation that moves at a leisurely pace. And the term "leisurely" certainly applies to the rate of sales of hybrids there. And we thought Mitsubishi i sales in the US have been slow. The country's Toyota dealership is still in the process of explaining hybrid technology to many of its prospective customers, with the widespread perception remains that a standard Toyota Prius needs to be plugged in for electrical charging, the Jamaica Gleaner reports. Because of such slow exposure, Toyota has only sold about 10 hybrids in Jamaica since the Japanese automaker started selling them there in 2010. And we thought Mitsubishi i sales in the US have been slow. Toyota dealers in Jamaica continue to tout hybrid technology that can boost fuel economy by about 30 percent but are going up against the fact that Toyota's hybrids now need to be pre-ordered and aren't kept in stock because of sluggish demand. There's also the fact that Toyota's Japanese operations insist on an approval process that ensures the hybrids sent there can handle Jamaica's road conditions, and it typically takes three to four months for a Prius to get to Jamaica once ordered. Island locales provide a curious dichotomy for advanced-powertrain vehicles. On one hand, the driving distances tend to be relatively small, lengthening the amount of time it takes to pay back the original cost premium. On the flip side, importing fuel to islands makes gas prices skyrocket and can prove costly for the economy in island nations. Late last year, for instance, the government of another Caribbean nation, Barbados, estimated it spends about $250 million a year on gas used for personal vehicles. That's why the government there is pushing for more electric-vehicle adoption, though the number of EVs on the island was in the low double-digits as of mid-2013.
