Up for auction is a 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 series ready to become in your new adventure vehicle.

The odometer shows actual 201k miles in it; however, about 1,000 miles ago we completely rebuilt the motor head with all new components, and also put new piston rings and bearings. In other words, it practically has a rebuilt engine in it.

Interior is in pretty good conditions. All the seats (excluding driver’s) are with the original upholstery and in very good shape. Driver’s seat had the bottom piece re-upholstered by previous owner and unfortunately it was not the best job, decent, but not the best.

Dash is in excellent conditions, with all accessories in perfect working conditions. We just installed a new Pioneer media player stereo with Pioneers speakers as well.

A/C is in perfect working conditions. 4wd System is in excellent working conditions as well.

All the interior floor was cleaned out, sanded, primed, and black liner in order to keep it as pristine as it is, and prevent any future rust. This liner also helps for heat and noise rejection.

It has the factory 4 speed transmission and split transfer case in excellent working conditions. The engine is the factory 2F engine which we partially rebuilt, and also installed a full set of headers and high performance distributor to increase its performance on and off the road.

The exterior was completely painted with Toyota Cement Gray color and black on the roof and hood area. We used our already trade mark coarse paint (liner type paint) which gives it a unique and rough look, as well as an excellent rust protectant paint job. This vehicle is completely rust through free. It had about 4 small rust spots which we already fixed with new metal before paint job.

Wheels and tires were taken out of a 4Runner with only 7k miles in it; so plenty of thread life on them.

Overall, this 60 series Land Cruiser is in pretty good shape and definitely an excellent vehicle to be used as a daily driver or as a weekend off road purposes vehicle.

How many Toyotas are potentially affected by seat fabric problem?

Fri, 31 Jan 2014

When we reported yesterday on Toyota's stop-sale order of certain 2013 and 2014 models due to an issue with the fabrics on models with heated seats not conforming to flammability regulations, one of our many questions was how many vehicles were affected? More importantly, how many of those cars have already found homes?
Kelley Blue Book has the troubling statistics. Every 2013 and 2014 Avalon features heated seats. 6.2-percent of 2013 and 4.5-percent of 2014 Camry sedans, meanwhile, were sold with heated seats. That doesn't seem as bad as 100-percent of the larger Avalon, until you consider the Camry's huge volume - the 5.6-percent average still accounts for a lot of cars. Sienna minivans are heavily affected as well, with a total of 37-percent of 2013s and 46-percent of 2014s fitted with butt warmers. The stop-sale only affects 7-percent of 2014 Corolla models, but like the Camry, that number is rather misleading due to the sheer volume of cars Toyota moves. You can see the entire breakdown of percentages by clicking on the inset image.
According to Karl Brauer, a senior analyst for KBB, this problem comes at the worst possible time. "Given that much of the US is currently in the grips of a record cold snap, there's sure to be high demand for models with seat heaters," Brauer notes. The stop-sale order is a good first step, but it doesn't do anything to inform consumers who currently own the affected models and may, in these frosty temperatures, want to use their seat heaters. "Should owners of those vehicles stop using the seat heaters?" Brauer asked.

Toyota reveals latest autonomous tech test bed

Fri, Mar 3 2017

Toyota revealed its latest autonomous technology effort Friday, a sophisticated Lexus LS 600hL prototype that showcases its plans to advance in the emerging field. The Lexus is the first developed entirely by the company's in-house Toyota Research Institute and it will focus on the car's ability to learn and see behavior on the road. Toyota is showing the car at the Prius Challenge event at Sonoma Raceway. The Lexus uses Lidar, radar, and sensors, which potentially reduce reliance on mapping. The prototype advances Toyota's last concept vehicle shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2013. This one is said to be more flexible and it will focus on Toyota's two autonomous tech pillars, called Guardian and Chauffeur. Guardian is meant to improve safety features, while Chauffeur moves toward full autonomy. "We believe Guardian can probably be deployed sooner and more widely than Chauffeur, providing high-level driver-assist features capable of helping mitigate collisions and save lives, sooner rather than later," Toyota Research Institute Gill Pratt said in a statement. Old Toyota Camry Hybrid batteries find new life in Yellowstone

Fri, Jun 6 2014

Beginning this fall, used hybrid batteries that would otherwise be recycled will get a second life in Yellowstone National Park. 208 nickel-metal hydride batteries are being retired from the Toyota Camry Hybrids they once helped power and will become part of an off-the-grid energy system at Yellowstone's remote Lamar Buffalo Ranch field campus. The Lamar campus provides field seminars and other education and research in the northeastern corner of the park. The energy stored in the battery packs will come from solar panels and micro-hydro turbines. The total storage capacity of the batteries is 85 kWh, which is sufficient to provide plenty of emissions-free power to the five buildings at the field campus. Toyota says this program essentially doubles the life of the batteries that are no longer suitable for driving. It's great to see the batteries get another life cycle before recycling, especially in a place where wild animals easily outnumbers the cars. The battery project is part of a larger partnership between Toyota and Yellowstone. Toyota has previously donated a RAV4 and $50,000 to support sustainability projects at the park. In addition to the energy system being implemented at the Lamar Buffalo Ranch, Toyota has taken part in similar energy projects. Beginning last year, Toyota dealers in Japan have been using hybrid batteries for power storage. Also, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama is testing a system to use hybrid batteries to power operations and for emergency backup power. Learn more in the press release from Toyota below. Buffalo and Bears and Batteries – Oh My! Toyota Brings Power to Yellowstone National Park June 04, 2014 Yellowstone...Where the Deer and the Antelope and the Prius Play Torrance, Calif. (June 4, 2014) – The nation's oldest National Park is ready for some new power. Toyota Camry hybrid batteries will soon power the Lamar Buffalo Ranch field campus in Yellowstone National Park. It's a new lease on life for the batteries and new, zero emission, energy option for the Park. Now that's a "bear-able" solution! The stationary distributed energy system will feature 208 used Camry Hybrid nickel-metal hydride battery packs and a total storage capacity of 85 kWh, more than enough pluck to power the five buildings on the Ranch field campus.
