This Land Cruiser came out of Arizona and has never seen a Chicago winter. The terminal rust you typically see in these is noticeably absent in this Cruiser. This vehicle is not my daily driver but I like to get it out on the weekends. I keep this vehicle stored in the garage when I am not driving it.
The truck has a new set of Nokian Rotiva AT tires (31x10.5 15) and has recently had all fluids changed - including the transmission, transfer case, both differentials, and antifreeze. All the grease zerks on the front end and the leaf spring shackles were greased. All 4 shock absorbers were replaced in the last 1000 miles. I tuned it up with a new set of Bosch spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. The exhaust was a little loud so I replaced the muffler and tail pipe. It also has an upgraded CS130D alternator and I re-wired the cables to the alternator. The clutch was replaced about 50k miles ago. The transmission, transfer case, and rear diff were all rebuilt at the same time. This Cruiser looks and drives great and you would never know it has 255k miles. The AC blows cold and both front and rear heaters work. The stereo system is all new with a new head unit, amplifier, and 6 speakers. The interior is clean and the original awning stripe seats are still very presentable. The 4 speed transmission shifts fine and the 4wd system works. Cruise control works perfectly. The hand-throttle works and the carb cooling fan works. I have made several trips to St. Louis and back without any issues. The full-length safari rack, repair manuals, and a box of spare parts are all included. This is a great example of the FJ60 that needs absolutely nothing and is ready to go. It's definitely too nice of a truck to use as a winter beater. I just had a 12,000lb winch installed. The winch comes with a snatch block and wireless remote control. The last picture shows the winch installed. If you have any questions, please ask before bidding. I am advertising this vehicle for sale locally and reserve the right to end the auction early. |

Tesla expects another higher-volume deal with Toyota in next few years
Tue, 09 Sep 2014Four months have passed since Toyota ended its relationship with Tesla Motors, in which the electric-vehicle specialist supplied full lithium-ion battery packs to the Japanese behemoth for its RAV4 EV rollout, of which 2,500 vehicles will be completed. Now, Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk has been heard suggesting that a future collaboration is likely within the next two to three years, and that it will probably be much larger than the last one.
Both Tesla and Toyota have sung each other's praises in the not-too-distant past, Toyota telling Autoblog back in May, "We have a good relationship with Tesla and will evaluate the feasibility of working together on future projects." According to Automotive News, Musk said of the Japanese giant, "We love working with Toyota... We have a huge amount of respect for them as a company and certainly much to learn."
Interestingly, though, the two automakers have rather divergent strategies for eco-friendly automobiles. Toyota, as you're surely aware, is the clear-cut leader in hybrids and has thrown its massive support in the direction of hydrogen fuel cells, while Tesla has invested heavily in battery-electric technology and high-speed charging stations.
Total auto recalls already on record pace in 2014
Tue, 08 Apr 2014If you've noticed that there have been more recalls than usual this year, you may be on to something. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the US market is on pace to break a record for recalls. In 2013, 22 million cars were recalled. We're only a third of the way through 2014, though, and we've already halved that figure, with 11 million units recalled. That's wild.
Considering the past few months, it shouldn't be a surprise that General Motors is leading the charge, with six million of the 11 million units recalled coming from one of the General's four brands. Between truck recalls, CUV recalls and the ignition switch recall, 2014 hasn't been a great year for GM.
Other recall leaders include Nissan (one million Sentra and Altima sedans), Honda (900,000 Odyssey minivans), Toyota (over one million units in a few recalls), Volkswagen (150,000 Passat sedans), Chrysler (644,000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs) and most recently, Ford (434,000 units, the bulk of which were early Ford Escape CUVs). So while it's been a bad year for GM so far, its competitors aren't doing too well, either.
Toyota pondering high-performance GT86 hybrid?
Fri, 08 Mar 2013From what Autocar has to say, Toyota has even more plans for the GT86 beyond the convertible concept we just saw at the Geneva Motor Show. Along with a planned midcycle facelift, Toyota is reportedly looking at how to pack some extra ponies under the coupe's hood, and while there has already been a lot of talk about superchargers and turbochargers, it sounds like a performance-boosting hybrid system could also be in the works.
Talking to Toyota chief engineer Tetsuya Tada, Autocar has learned that the automaker is considering an electrical motor assist for the sporty coupe to improve performance without harming fuel economy. In attempting to keep weight - and, presumably, costs - down, the article mentions the use of a system closer to what Honda uses for its Integrated Motor Assist rather than a full Hybrid Synergy Drive system used in current Toyota hybrids. Tada says the added weight of the system could be offset by weight reduction, while aerodynamic changes and a lower center of gravity could improve the car's handling.
No word yet on whether a mild hybrid system would find its way to North America's Scion FR-S - let alone its Subaru BRZ twin - but the thought is certainly an intriguing one.
