Look no further, this is the one you've been waiting for! I guarantee you will not find a nicer or more original Land Cruiser. Warning: Do not bid on this car unless you like to be waived and smiled at on a daily basis. It is truly in amazing condition. I've owned five Land Cruisers now and this is by far my favorite; I restore them as a hobby to original condition. After doing a tremendous amount of research, I finally found this diamond in the rough. Months ago, I flew down to southern Oregon to pick this one up then took it on its first challenge; a five hour drive with a 65mph speed limit. This car drove perfectly! It is obvious that this was the previous owners baby. He had built a separate shop just to house it. Over the past 10 years he has gone though everything mechanical possible, and kept a 3 ring binder with thousands in receipts (that will be passed on to you). I am 100% confident that I could jump in this rig right now and drive to the southern tip of South America without any issues. I've used it as my daily driver the last few months and it simply runs perfect. It starts right up, drives perfectly straight and has plenty of power. To date, this is my favorite car I've ever had. But now I need a new project.

There is NO paint work done, the paint is 100% ORIGINAL and in amazing condition with only a few minor scratches and rock chips. There are NO accidents; clean title. There are NO smells, tears, or stains in the interior. There are NO leaks anywhere; inside or out. There is NO sign that this has ever been in the dirt; but I'm sure it would perform excellently. There is NO RUST on the body whatsoever and only the expected slight surface rust on the frame. This has always been a west coast car. Everything on this car works as it should.

The interior is a 9.5 out of 10 and the exterior is a 9 out of 10.

Here is a very abbreviated list of what was accomplished over the last few years; I have literally thousands of dollars in receipts:

Rebuilt carburetor (rebuilt to Japanese standards and may no pass smog standards in some populated cities; would have to be rebuilt again to Americas standards if this was an issue)
Rebuilt transmission
Rebuilt transfer case (you can shift through the 4wd gears and the wheel lockers with your pinky...its butter smooth)
Rebuilt clutch
New hoses
New windshield
New brake master cylinder
The list goes on and on...

Here is what I have accomplished in the last few months:

Replaced aftermarket wheels with the original
New 33" tires
Repaired tear in seat
Replaced dash
Replaced aftermarket radio with the original
Replaced antenna with the original
Removed all dents
Complete detail

The only things that are not original on this Cruiser are a very tasteful 3" lift and aftermarket radio speakers. Otherwise, it is 100% original. The mileage is low for the year. However, if you know anything about the FJ60, you know the mileage is irrelevant; these things will literally run forever. This can be a rig that's in your family for generations.

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions. I also have many more photos if you'd like anything emailed. If you purchase this car I'm confident you'll love it.

April Fools' Day brings Jeep Sedan, Hyundai N Roadster, Toyota Yaris pickup and more

Mon, Apr 1 2019

There is one day out of the year when public relations professionals have permission to lie to journalists and to the public: April Fools' Day. Manufacturers release details about wild, weird and wacky new technology, concept vehicles and services. Some take it to obvious outlandish extremes (Jeep Sedan anybody?), while others plot to mislead with products that are just outside the realm of possibility. Check out all the "jokes" below. BMW Motorrad BMW doesn't want to exclude anybody from experiencing the thrill of high-level racing, so it is introducing 'iRace" autonomous programming on its S 1000 RR sport bike. It includes beginner, sportsman, advanced and unlimited driving modes, and stores GPS information for all Superbike world championship tracks. Hyundai Hyundai is wrong for this. The Hyundai N Roadster is the work of South Korean designer Yeonjoon Park and features a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, rear-wheel drive and a hard convertible top. Hyundai says this is a "concept (for now)," but we think it'd make a seriously great Mazda Miata competitor. Honda Honda wins the award for the best interactive gimmick, as its press release for the '90s-inspired special-edition Pastport includes a live hotline number with a message from Fred Savage. Call 1-833-PASTPORT for more information. Jeep Put the Jeep Cherokee face on the Chrysler 300's body, and voila! The 2019 Jeep Sedan is born. We can't decide if the name or the rendering is better. Land Rover Accessibility to charging ports is of major concern to anybody with a plug-in vehicle. So, with the recent launch of the Range Rover P400e and Range Rover Sport P400e, Land Rover is putting forth an effort to install more stations around the globe. First up is Scotland's Isle of Skye. Adventurers need juice too! Lexus Australia Lexus expands its Encore service to include doggos. The new service, called Enpaw, will take pups to luxury boarding kennels in style. Toyota U.S. Toyota created the Yaris Adventure pickup for "those who want to tell their friends they own a truck but never veer off pavement." It's part Mazda 2, part RAV4, 100 percent ute and it looks ... great? Creating a new segment might be all fun and games to Toyota, but Ford is reportedly considering a Focus-based ute in a similar, albeit larger, style. Toyota Australia Toyota is launching a new HiAce van, and it's already getting a limited-edition variant called the PieAce.

Hi-po Toyota GT86 to get KERS?

Fri, 09 Nov 2012

We happen to like the Toyota GT86 - and, it of course goes without saying that the same applies to the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S, as well - just the way it is. Yes, that includes the standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine and its 200 horsepower at 7,000 rpm.
That said, a little extra power never hurt anybody, right?
The most obvious way to add some punch to the GT86 would be with a turbocharger, and that has indeed long been rumored for an STI version of the BRZ. Will Toyota follow suit? According to Top Gear, the answer is no. Says GT86 chief engineer Tetsuya Tada, "I think 300bhp with a turbo and 200g/km of CO2 would be tasteless in this day and age. And a turbo would mean the loss of the GT86's uniqueness." Perhaps a bit harsh, but there you go.

Toyota R&D shows off free piston engine linear generator for future EVs

Thu, May 1 2014

We often hear how an electric vehicle powertrain architecture allows vehicle designers much more freedom than a traditional ICE powertrain does. With differently shaped battery modules and small electric motors, there are lots of way to put the pieces together. With today's plug-in hybrid technology, engineers still need to put a decent-sized ICE somewhere, but new technology from Toyota could free up the gas-electric vehicle designers of the future. Presented at the recent SAE World Congress in Detroit, the idea from Toyota Central R&D Labs Inc. and involves what is called a Free Piston Engine Linear Generator (FPEG). Think of it as a sort of one-cylinder, two-stroke mini-engine that can work either as a generator (thank to magnets and a linear coil) or to directly drive a vehicle. The current prototype is a 10-kW unit that Toyota say would provide enough power to get a B- or C-segment electric vehicle up to highway speeds (75 miles per hour) when paired up to offer 20 kW. Pairing the FPEGs is also important to minimize vibrations. One system tested by Toyota had a 42 percent thermal efficiency, but the engineers are working to improve the overall efficiency even further. You can watch an animated video of the piston in action here (click on "Outline") and see the SAE papers here and here. More technical details are available at Green Car Congress.
